Title: Spaghetti carbonara MWOC pg 104
Post by: Halex on August 15, 2011, 06:56:11 am
Made this today for ds lunch box, he takes a flasks to school somedays.

I am having a small bowl for lunch, it is ok, nothing to rave about, not sure what ds will think. The cheese flavour is very strong. I might need to add some cream or something to tone it down for him. He can have a little for afternoon tea tonsee if he likes it

Unless ds and dh love it, wouldnt make it again, much nicer things to eat.

Anyone else done tnis,  coudnt find reviews.

I did try a cabonara once and wasn't keen on it either and have yet to try another version. I like cabonara but not this one. Need to find a better version.

Interesting....... My carnivores thought this was delicious and didn't believe that I didn't put cream in it.
I did not use peccorino as this is too strong but used 60g of Italian Parmesan.  I used 4 freshly laid eggs.
Loved that I only used one bowl.

This one my daughter loves, but we have changed it to suit us. It is a bit hit and miss each time with the ingredients, it is usually a last minute - "what's for tea Mum?" but it kinda goes like this...
Put a pot of water on the stove to boil and cook favourite pasta as per packet directions.
Put 1 clove garlic, some shallots and about that much frozen roughly chopped bacon into the TM bowl and whizz for 5 seconds on speed 7. Check and see if it is all chopped enough, if not, go again.
Add a splodge of olive oil and saute for 5 minutes varoma speed 1. Set aside in a large bowl.
Crack 2 eggs into TM bowl, add 1 x 250g block philly cheese or philly cream and whizz for a few seconds until all mixed up. Pour into bowl with bacon mixture and stir well with a spoon.
Drain cooked pasta and put in bowl with bacon/egg mix. Mix it all up well, serve and sprinkle with some parmesan cheese, sit in front of the tv and eat! (the only time we do sit in front of the tv and eat!)
If we have it we sprinkle some fresh chopped basil over the top.

I made this tonight as a quick meal. It was delicious! To make it quicker I cooked the spaghetti on the stovetop as Thermie was cooking the sauce. Had no shallots so used leek instead. I've never made carbonara from just eggs and was re reading the recipe over and over in case I had missed the cream!! Was delicious, everyone loved it even DH who is making my TMX experimenting difficult.
5/5 for us!!

Oh I should also add I had no pecorino so used regular tasty cheese.

My family also loves this take away meal substitute. Like others I use Parmesan.  I also the bacon in the TM. I boil the kettle whilst making the sauce.  The hot water goes into the TM bowl and I just cook spaghetti for 8 minutes. Less washing up.
