Title: I'm new - Gillian in Sydney, from UK!
Post by: teagg on August 09, 2011, 02:50:30 am
Hi all...
I'm Gillian - with two children and a husband, and a TM31...
I've had the TM three weeks... and similar to many here, am a very very happy woman!

I've been trying out all sorts of delights - made my first jam (strawberry) successfully and my second jam (apple and kiwi fruit) unsuccessfully (I burst the glass jar!)... both tasted delicious!

Yesterday was a batch of cinnamon rolls - DD5yo said that they were better than sweeties and chocolate (we've just been visiting the grandparents and there were rather more of the s&c than I would have preferred!) and definitely better than Ikea's (!!)

I've tried out the pork and potatoes with ginger recipe which I found here somewhere - I've done it with both 'real' chillies and also Franklin's 'chilli paste' (rather than the sambal oelek).

I have done a variety of sorbets (despite it being very cold, the girls seem to love it!!).

And of course the rice pudding (called Milchreis in this house!) and also mushroom risotto for guests over the weekend.

Mashed potatoes have also featured largely on the menu, thanks to the ease with which I can make them!

I'm not so good on steaming the veg... I start off enthusiastically but then resort to finishing them off in the microwave... don't think I've been giving them long enough to steam properly!

I cooked pasta in the TM last night (fusilli) and had the excitement of the water bubbling up through the hole - so turned it down to 90C.

And I'm enthusing so much about this machine to those around me, that I'm being told to go and work for them!!!

thank you for having such a fantastic resource!!
regards
Gillian

Hi Gillian and welcome.  Glad you're enjoying yourself so much and the kids obviously appreciate your efforts.  Loads of recipes here for you to experiment with - a never-ending supply, in fact.  The trouble is, once you find the ones you like you tend to stop experimenting, my rule is to always try at least one new recipe a week.

Hi Gillian, welcome to the forum.  Sounds like you've done quite a bit so far and are having fun which is what it is all about.
Stick with the use of the varoma for steaming your vegies, I don't do it any other way since my first effort. Give us a description of how big you are cutting the vegies, how much water you are using, temperature, speed etc and we will see if we can give you any advice in this matter.

;D ;D ;D ;D  I thought our standards were dropping Frozzie, that word just jumped out at me but when I read your whole posting I had such a laugh. Doesn't take much to make me laugh these days - a good laugh is so good for the soul.

Well, DH has asked me to go slow on the TMX as he's feeling less than well -too much eating!!!
So I need to go hunting for simpler things for suppers for a while...

Might continue on the jam front however (managed to get that apple&kiwi one into a couple of jars this afternoon, successfully!)!!!

I've already bought some Seville oranges for the marmalade experiment!  I did have to save them from inquisitive fingers thinking teybwere just incredibly expensive normal oranges up for grabs!
