Title: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: dede on July 25, 2011, 10:50:03 am
I'm thinking of getting a second bowl and blade set with my tax refund (When I get it) and I am just wondering who else has a second set and if you find it useful or should I just make do with what I have.?

In a word Mandi - YES  :D
I used to read people saying they had one and wondered why they would possibly need one when you can only have one bowl at a time in place.  Then I started making bread and leaving it to rise in the bowl and could see the merit in having a spare so I bought one.  Just love it now with the 2 and if I forget to grate the cheese or something else and I am well into the cooking, I have the second one to whip on there and do it. So, if you can afford it I would definitely get one.

YES, I use my two bowls everyday, even if it just means getting something else cooking while I wash up the other bowl. 2nd best thing I have bought( obviously Thermie being number one)

Oh I couldn't live without mine now Mandi and you have just as many mouths to feed as I do. You can do with out it for sure, but you will never regret buying it  :D :D

Mandi,  I use my second bowl every day.  With all those mouths to feed it would be a good investment.

Well I guess that's a yes then. I knew someone would help me make a decision. Well mister tax man it's a second bowl and blade set on order.

Mandi, I paid full price for mine and didn't realise it came with a steaming basket and butterfly as well - 2 things I didn't really need as I have a spare butterfly already just in case I forget and go over the speed and wreck it.  Can't see any reason to have 2 steaming baskets either.  Just wondering if you asked how much it would be without those items if the price would be cheaper.  One of our consultants would know the answer to that I'm sure.

I don't think all the bowls come with a basket and butterfly - when I got mine, my friend's box didn't have the butterfly and basket and they were ordered at the same time.

I would go for it Mandi. There are so many times when a second bowl would be handy.  I would love one - perhaps tax time next year.

My tax cheque this year (actually DH's cheque ;)) is going toward the surprise TM I am buying for my Mum.  I'm over half way there with my savings now. Woohoo! :)

Mine came with the butterfly and basket , I agree with you Judy. Prefer to pay less and just get bowl and blade.

I will have to find out about that then. My sister is a consultant so I will get her to ask for me. Maybe I should wait to see if they bring out the cheaper second set again but that could be a long time away. Will see when my tax cheque arrives.

I too have extra of most of the accessories, 2 bowls ,2 knifes 2 lids, 3 MC, 3 steaming baskets and 4 butterflies.
Never really use the butterfly or the steaming basket i got them as gifts the times i had my tmx repaired together with a bunch of TMX DVDs that i never have looked.
In Spain you can order your parts online http://shop.vorwerk.com/vorwerk_es/accesorios-thermomix-tm-31.html

I was talking to my sister ( a consultant) who said yes the second bowl comes with extra butterfly and steamer which will be nice to have spare. I might order another spatula ad well while I'm at it. I been to the accountant today and all is good. Now to wait for the refund.

I was in the same situation today Dede my kitchen aid had to be thermie companion for the 7 doz cupcakes - made a variety of icings, cream cheese icing, butter icing and the wonderful frosting from the forum. Curried sausages were also cooked amongst the cupcake take over in the kitchen  :D  :D  :D

I thought it did but thought I would double check. Will be good to have 2 seals as mine can become a bit smelly depending what I make, I will keep one for savory and one for sweet (Wonder how long that will last?)

I have read lots of posts on that but I don't seem to have that problem. I make lots of curries, dishes containing chillis and other fragrants but it has never been a problem for me. Just lucky I guess.

Dede make sure you aren't storing your jug with the lid on, leave it off so the seal can air  ;) I make heaps of smelly stuff and NEVER have a smell seal or lid

I'm with you faffa. When I first got my second bowl I was determined that the bowl, blades, lid, seal & MC would be kept together as a set and not swapped between them (just my little thing I guess). But as you said, when I wanted to cook, I wanted it then and they kinda ended up getting mixed up. I also thought about the savoury/sweet thing when I read the posts but thought the same thing would happen so I never worried about it.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: dede on August 11, 2011, 12:32:49 pm
I always keep my lid upside down on top of the bowl to help it air. I know the older seals seam to be better in that they didn't get smelly where I have the newer seal that can smell a little but I have never had problems with the smell going through anything else I cook afterwards. And I know I say I will keep one seal for sweet and one for Savory but I think that will last all of 2 seconds as you said Faffa I will want to use it now and not worry about which one is which. Unless they are color coded it will become impossible to tell I think.

Considering my friend's TMX jug ends up here every few days due to it being easier to cook for 10 mouths with two, I've been putting off buying a second due to pure laziness...  I will ring HO in the morning and put in my order though. ;)

I think HO should consider color coding. I had the best intention but now it's just grab which ever isn't dirty. I really use mine so much- it is addictive. Need to make myself do other things like my book work or even cleaning. Not as rewarding though.

I have been contemplating a second bowl too before my first 3 month ownership runs out. (I read somewhere that there is a special price within the first 3 months) I have been going through my own personal Thermomix recipe directory to look at the dishes where a second bowl is needed. In my "Diet-Pro" software there is a section where you can add in any kind of criteria e.g. cake, healthy cooking, thermomix etc. I have added 2 bowls to the choices just to see how much I would use the second bowl in one recipe. All I need to do is to ask for the criteria and up comes the recipes with that tag. Gosh, I love the computer part of my foodie life!
I must admit that I am always pleased when I see that a recipe is actually telling me "no need to wash the bowl" so I can just carry on. When I do my own personal review of a recipe, I do make sure that the procedure runs in the right order and add in such instructions myself. It is all too easy to carry on and then realise that you should have ground the sugar or lentils etc first whilst the bowl was dry. Gosh!  have almost talked myself into the second bowl just writing this  :o :o :-\ :-\

Go for it DD, I'm sure you won't regret it -  as an added incentive I gather that you get a spatula with the 2nd bowl if you buy within the 3 months, but you don't if you buy the bowl later.

Mind you, I very rarely use my TM Spatula.......  ;) ;)
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?

Once you have two you'll never know how you lived with only one. I only made it to about two months before I was looking to buy the second. It makes it so easy when you don't need to wash one just so you can use it when you're in the middle of a recipe.

And now I'm waiting for the cinnamon scrolls to rise in the bowl so can't do anything else at the moment. Hopefully my second bowl will arrive this week.

Promptly at 9am Thermomix rang to take my order of a second bowl. Apparently, I will be getting everything with it including the Spatula at the special offer price (saving £35) because my Thermomix is less that 3 months old. It will cost me £199. I bought the book My Way of Cooking too. I will get it tomorrow morning. Thermomix are so good at posting. Of course I am in England so I have an advantage of a 24 hour service when it comes to the speed at which I get it. I shall choose a recipe from my list for tomorrow that needs 2 bowls to celebrate.
eek! happiness is Thermomix shaped  ;D

Wow that is quick DD. I was told 10 days for me to get mine. I'm hoping it will come this week. I think I will do the same and find a recipe that 2 bowls will be extremely handy. Just making bread and letting it rise in one bowl while making something else will be a huge benefit. Can't wait.

It's a strange quirk of life, isn't it - you can survive without something for long enough then, once you have made the decision to buy it and it is ordered, suddenly you need it NOW!!  Hope yours arrives soon.

It's amazing what you do in the TMX "just because you can".  I often make things I don't necessarily need or want, for the fun of it and just because I can!!

Faffa and I are certainly following each around on this thread this afternoon!

ReneD you will never regret it. I know it is another largish cost after the TMX but with a large family it really does make it so much easier to get other things on and then go and wash the bowl etc :)

I actually think it adds heaps of value to your Thermie, you can utilize it so much more. I have no regrets. It is the same as the initial purchase you worry about the cost until you are using it and then it is forgotten because you love it.

Tonight was a bit of a rush as I had to pick up my DS from football training which is right on tea time. But I come home and made chow mein and while that was cooking I prepared the potatoes in the other bowl ready to cook as soon as the chow mein was done.  So already it has saved me time.

I would say. yes you should.  I have had my TMX for just over 3 months and am totally in love with him.
I think all of us who are lucky enough to have a Thermie in our lives know we could never live without him (sorry to those who have a "her").
Like most of us who originally thought the cost was inhibitive and who now have forgotten about the price, I think having a second bowl would make things even better and more Thermomixically delicious.

I intend to get one soon and I can only begin to imagine how much more easier, creative and fun cooking will be.

Go for it!!

An advantage to living in Germany is the second bowl is on $261.65AUD or 189 Euros.  It doesn't come with spatula or steam basket but does come with MC.  I really could have used it tonight with dinner but I will need to save up a little bit. The German link is just here...

As promised, I received my second bowl from Thermomix within 24 hours.  I  celebrated by making a Lemon Chiffon cake which requires 2 bowls so that  egg whites and cream of tartar can go in a clean bowl and beaters. It was so good to know that I didn't have to be concerned that my egg whites wouldn't peak. It seemed strange to be washing 2 bowls at the end and I confess that I felt a twinge of conscience in being so indulgent without even a birthday or Christmas to make an excuse for. :-[ :-[  It didn't last long though and I am looking forward to using it. ;D ;D

Well I have had my second bowl and blade set for a little while now and have used it so many times already. It Definitly makes life that much easier and quicker. I can have one thing cooking and prepare another thing ready to cook in the other bowl ready to go as soon as the first bowl is done. Love it and so glad I brought it. So if anyone is considering buying a second bowl I would Definitly say go for it.

I bought the 2 bowl package straight away after my demo as I knew I would need two bowls, it makes life so much easier and I have been using both since day one, I also know that if I decide to do any local fetes/fairs and sell fresh lemonade, smoothies, sorbets or mulled wine at christmas it will be great to have one going while one bowl is being emptied. In the UK the second bowl comes with the basket, spatula and butterfly whisk. You will definitely like having the flexibility the 2nd bowl offers.

For some reason I always make sure it is the original that stays with the base, guess I am just wanting to keep my spare looking new for as long as possible.

So funny.  I have no idea in our house at all.  I go off to work and come home.  When I want to buy something, magically money just seems to be available.  Every month Ed tells me that we have to be careful and I am.  Having lived in Germany now for almost two years, new International staff ask me about online banking and so on.  I look at them red faced and have to tell them that I honestly have no idea. I have never done online banking in Germany.  But I do have an Ed!!!  He is our families treasurer.  He likes to think he is the President too, hmmmmmmm!!!

I guess we cant have both people in a couple doing the same thing, best to have one person in charge of somethings and another in charge of other things otherwise it would become a bit confusing. The only problem with this is if we are forced to do something we don't usually do for some reason or another we become stressed and frazzled very quickly.

Once upon a time DH used to use the 'all you have to do is ask and I will do it (eg. - get washing form line, unpack dishwasher etc, etc.........)' comment until my retort became if I wanted to be around children forever I would have kept having babies.  Mind you  that statement has also bee delivered through gritted teeth oops I meant lovingly to our 3 DDs on more than one occasion.

I have to say that in my relationship, I'm the geeky one... the one who likes gadgets and will only do certain things if I have a suitable appliance to do it.  :P
My children have followed that and my 4 year old knows that it is possible to change my old Windows smart phone into an Android operating system and wants me to do so... now.  :D
I can budget to within an inch of my life... and am often asked how I turn a low income into everything we need.  Tenacity I say. ;)
That said, my other half is also gifted.  Will use any gadget I suggest is needed and doesn't question my quirks.  Somehow we've ended up with 2 Thermomixes AND 3 bowl and blades sets between them.  :-))   Wouldn't part with ANY of them though! ;)

Ladies PLEASE ensure that they can at least do the banking and bill paying, etc. My Dad has NEVER EVER done any of that and now with Mum not having long to go, tomorrow I have been nominated to spend the day with them both teaching Dad what he needs to know and sorting a whole heap of things out for Mum. Kathryn, my thoughts are with you at this time.  You are right, however, and it goes both ways.  If anything needs to be done around the house, DH just does it and I, foolish as I am, let him.  It's absolutely the worst thing you could do so I am going to have to take a hand in this and just start doing things myself as well as showing him how to do the things that I do.

A little birdy told me today that if you hold a varome demo in October you can get a second bowl and blade set for half price. That would be right if only I knew. Bugger.
Oh well for anyone wanting a second bowl October would be the time to get one.

Yes that is true, But unfortunately with my brood I just cant afford to buy another one at the moment. And any way I am looking for a second hand fan forced oven at the moment and we are building the workshop (For my picture framing) So funds are stretched to the limit. If the promotion was a few weeks ago I could of either brought 2 for the price of one or had an extra $200 in my pocket toward an oven. Oh well cant have everything lol.

I haven't had my varoma demo yet, but I was going to buy a dishwasher before I bought anything for Thermie! I'm not sure if I should get one, I'm trying to simply my life and be more organized, I'm already a bit 'all over the place' with this new gadget, trying so many things when really i should be planning and not being on this lovely forum so much  :D
I'd actually really love a free book!  Though I can see the benefits, I'm imaging I've got my porridge on the go, then building a smoothie in the new jug and putting it straight on, when the porridge is done rather than wash up blah blah blah.
Obviously DH would have to understand that these new jugs are free  ;D
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: judydawn on September 29, 2011, 12:16:20 am
Viv, I couldn't see the point of having a second bowl for ages until one day I was doing something that made me think it could perhaps be useful.  I didn't wait for a special price, I just ordered it and it was here lickety split.  It has certainly come in handy quite a number of times and I don't have to do the cooking a lot of forum members do.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: dede on September 29, 2011, 05:22:27 am
Oh Viv, I can understand where your coming from. I find i use my second bowl nearly as much as the first bowl. I quiet often prepare things in the second bowl while the first one is busy.
And of cause we won't tell if you don't about the free bowl lol. But on the other hand a new dishwasher would be great too. Oh the decisions.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: Vivaroo on September 29, 2011, 11:41:57 am
Yikes, I think I'm going to be strong and stick to the one bowl.  Still need a varoma demo though, and gosh that lovely demonstrator is so darn persuasive in the nicest possible way, and I'm so easily led, who knows what will happen.  Last time I saw her she nearly convinced me to quit my day job to be a consultant!

A dishwasher would be more use at this point in my life, my old dishwasher (DH) keeps telling me to clean up as I cook and worse, starts cleaning up while I'm still cooking and complains I'm too messy.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: dede on September 29, 2011, 12:00:15 pm
I would definitly go for the dishwasher, they are much quieter than a DH and you can hide the mess in the dishwasher as you go.

Post by: thermoheaven on September 29, 2011, 02:06:59 pm
I've decided to go the 3rd bowl. it's the same price as a new set of blades if someone buys at my demo, so it's a cheap way to have spare parts on hand if i need them. I recently needed a new set of blades because the original ones weren't spinning, and i'm so glad I had the extra bowl to fall back on, so that's how I know how much the blades are. I also saw a tm video on youtube today where the chef used 3 bowls. That's my excuse.

Post by: Frozzie on October 02, 2011, 11:20:07 am
when i asked my consultant this xhen i bought my thermie she told me that its no where near it...they bring out a model every 10 years on average...so who knows...saying that i think JD is right....it would be a well kept secret to all until it was time to release!  :)

From this list it all depends sometimes ten years sometimes less...think that depends on whats available on teh market but with new models or copycats popping up everywhere they may not be far off to be able to keep control of their target audience..

1961 : VKM5
1971 : VM 2000
1977 : VM 220
1980 : TM 3000
1982 : TM 3300
1996: TM21
2004: TM31

no idea JD...might have a search on local forums to see what they say...thats where I found this list as vorwerk doesnt have it on their site at all...pity...interesting to know all the older models....I would say that some new gadget came out that they may have added into a newer model??? They really should have a history of the different models on their websites aroudn the world...

After tonight, I will not be buying a second bowl and blade but I will be buying a second Thermomix.  Ed said that whatever money I make selling them, I can use to save up to buy my second one.  Yippee!!! Woohoo!!!  I was considering purchasing a second hand TM21 to make life easier as they are quite cheap here in Germany.  But then I found out too that by trading in a TM21 in the UK saves you 200 pounds off the price of a TM31.  Need to do the maths here to see which is faster.

Well Judy it is not e quantity of the food that we eat but rather than quantity of the food we produce.  It does all turn into lunches and is given to friends and colleagues and we entertain quite a bit.  I do not need two machines at all but if I can earn it by selling, then I can justify it.... I think

Having had the luxury of two TMXs, I can certainly appreciate the purchase... but that does usually involve at least two of us in the kitchen at any given time.  With eight children and two adults to feed it's almost compulsory!  :D :D
That said, three bowls and two machines = breathing space! ;)

I'm thinking of buying a second bowl and blade set and I know this month's offer is for a discounted one if you hold a demo but I've got no one to come to a demo and given it's the end of the month no chance of organising one anyway. I was looking on the TMX website and there isn't a place to order a new bowl, does anyone know if they ever have a special on the bowls without holding a demo or even if you can still buy one without holding a demo? i know I could ring them but I thought there would be someone on here who could help.
Thanks.

Wonder, I've just had a demo to get my second bowl/blade set at 1/2 price.
My understanding is you can either buy the set at full price without a demo or half price with it.
I didn't initially think I would have anyone to invite, but ended up with 5.
I really didn't want to have a demo but it was a good night and the girls enjoyed it.

Now it's over, Im so pleased I had one, easier for me to part with $195 (I couldn't justify paying $395 on top of the TM price) and it was more a want than a need, but I know it will definitely get used as there have already been times when I would have made use of it.

Oh... something important I completely forgot to mention when posting this.....I only had a one on one demo when I got my TM (cos I don't like holding demos) but found out that I couldn't get my FREE thermoserver until I had a demo, so had been waiting since Dec for the bowl/blade set 1/2 price offer so I could take advantage of the offer plus get my freebie.....

I knew I wasn't prepared to pay full price for the bowl on top of the cost of the TM, may have changed my mind down the track?
March was quiet a challenge to organize a demo because here in Vic we had two long weekends for a start, then TM consultants were away in Hong Kong one another weekend, didn't leave many suitable dates plus my hubby unexpectedly ended up in hospital
needing surgery and to just finish it all off we were without electricity one Sat for more than 7 hrs due to scheduled maintenance in our area...phew thank goodness I wasn't able to pre arrange the demo that day or the weekend hubby was out of action.

Now, I am really looking forward to receiving my second bowl, kind of feels like Ive earn't it! :D

Post by: Kimmyh on March 28, 2013, 11:17:23 am
I am in the same position as you wonder. I cheekily asked my consultant if there was anyway she could wangle one, especially if a host doesn't take up the offer. But she is pushing for another demo, said she could see what she could do. Am not holding my breath.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: Wonder on March 28, 2013, 11:27:31 am
You would think the consultants would be happy to just sell them rather than waste their time and money on a demo where no one is interested in buying. Not sure if I can justify the money with the amount I'm cooking at the moment even though I know t would be so handy.
Title: Re: Should I buy a Second bowl and Blade set?
Post by: Jamberie on March 28, 2013, 11:31:01 am
Maybe you would use it more if you had two... :)
I cook a bit differently with two....I make bread dough and leave it in the bowl to prove whilst doing other things. I don't use them both every day, but they do allow some flexibility and speed when I'm doing a big cook up.

I'm still using the TMX everyday at least once for y smoothies in the morning and I always wash it straight away but others in the family don't do the same. It would also be great when forgetting to grind or chop foods in advance, I definitely don't need one but think it would be very handy - basically like most purchases its a want not a need 😄😄

Is it meant to come with a spatula as well? Mine didn't, not that I mind. I only use it for salads and getting a full hot steaming basket out.

Having 2 bowls is great !! The spatula I'm sure doesn't come with the bowl - i think you need to order it separately ...

Love my second bowl.  DH paid full price for it as a gift.   If you can get one for 1/2 price ,  go for it.

I'm back to thinking I'll get a second bowl, I'm on a bit of spending frenzy at the moment so probably should just ring and get one. If there are any consultants that would like the sale let me know.

Do they ever have half price specials on bowls and blades? I don't wish to have another demo.

During the year they sometimes have half price specials but you need to have a demo, in past years I think this special was run around April. You can buy them by ringing head office.

I got my second bowl earlier this year and it came with blades, basket, butterfly and also a spatula which is very handy as I have chopped the first spatula up a bit.

Yes, I bought it from a friend who bought it as a 2nd bowl 1/2 price etc. She has never used it. so there should be nothing wrong with it, both will have to go to HO I expect.

I emailed DH & said we need a 2nd machine, just waiting for WA to shake, lol.

Now how to convince him.......
