Hi Everyone,
I have a number of friends that have purchased Thermomix over the past few months and after seeing one in the flesh on the weekend, I am off to a party to see it in three weeks time. I don't know where I can wait that long though - I want it now!
All I have to do now is convince my wonderful husband of the marvels of TM. I am extremely lucky to have literally every single kitchen appliance in existence and he reminds me of this at every opportunity. Please, I need your help to assist me with the convincing.
Thanks,
Leesmac78

Lol. I love the title of this post. I don't blame you for wanting a TM. They are brilliant. Is your hubby going to the Demo as well? From past comments on the forum taking hubby to a Demo is the best way to convince them of the benefits in owning a TM. I think it's the talk of titanium and blades that spin as fast as a jet engine that get men excited about the TM lol. Anyway good luck. I hope you get what you Want, want, want.
-
The best way is to get your DH to a demo. I got mine there under false pretences by telling him he was going to have a beer with the host's hubby - not to watch the demo. Once he saw what it could do he was all for buying the machine. Unless someone else has any suggestions I can only suggest that you revert to woman's long time tool - nag, nag, nag. Also I calculated my shopping bills after TMX and the difference was about $50 per week. Didn't take that long to pay for itself - especially when I bought it just before Xmas and it really impacted on that shopping bill. I know others have sold of their other appliances (ones that would become redundant) before purchasing TMX to fund their purchase.
However you manage it - good luck with the convincing.
-
Welcome to the forum, leesmac78 - husbands and demos - a combination made in heaven!! Good luck
-
I agree, hubby needs to be at the demo.welcome to the forum leesmac78
-
Welcome to the forum leesmac78 - having your DH see the thermie in action is essential and as twitterpated commented then revert to the dripping tap method (nagging be it subtle). :) :)
-
The girls are right leesmac78, if you can get him to the demo you are almost guaranteed he will give in. Over time it is a huge money saver and you only have to sit him down in front of the computer and show him our response to your question, browse through the 'what are you cooking for dinner' section to see all the lovely photos and that may do the trick. Good luck.
-
welcome to the forum leesmac78. Here on this post (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6027.0), another forum member also faced the same situation and lots of members gave their Wily Ways tips n tricks. I won't tell you if or how she got one cos that would just spoil it ;)
-
Hi Leemac78.....I'm very new to Thermomix as well...I just received mine on Monday night! YAY. When I first told my hubby that I was going to a demo.....He didn't know what I was even going to see but the first thing he said was "DON'T BUY ANYTHING!!!!" lol. I came home and told him he would be so happy with me cause I didn't buy it...BUT I'm having a demo so you can see this AWESOME machine in action....I'm positive I seen an eyeroll :-)) lol As soon as he seen the sorbet he was sold! The custard just locked it in! lol. Now he is such an avid supporter of the thermomix! He even made his own custard last night! and on the weekend I'm having a girlfriend over who is dragging her hubby along so My hubby can help convince hers!!!! So in my case I got through to my hubby via his stomach!!! ;)
-
Welcome to the forum. I agree, take Hubby to the demo and you will find it will be "his" decision to buy!! Good luck!!!
-
Thank you for all your help. Keep them coming. I feel like I have a petition almost ready to present - such fun!!!
-
I must agree with all of the above. It was my DH who said he wanted me to have one.(only so he could get a vintage car). He still tells everyone that it is the best thing he has ever told me to buy and would buy another in a flash, even though the only thing he can make is rice pudding.
Good luck.
-
Welcome to the forum.I did nag my husband about buying a TM that eventually he arranged a demo for my birthday.Unknown to me he had already purchased it, so it was mine at the end of the demo. ;D
-
Hi Leesmac78 :)
Ummmm.....I never even mentioned it to my hubby, until I organised the demo, and then it magically turned up on my kitchen bench ;D could you do it that way? :P
When I get asked how much anything is, the rule of thumb is quote 50% less ;) ;)
Just had a thought.....tell him he'll get lucky if you get one....that usually does it :D
-
Oh Maddy, what a fabulous idea. That might just do the trick!
-
You make me laugh Maddy :D :D :D :D
-
1. it magically turned up on my kitchen bench
2. the rule of thumb is quote 50% less
3. tell him he'll get lucky if you get one...
1. aha
2. aha
3. aha
yep! all three should do it!
-
:D :D :D
Hey CP is that you?? You don't look anything like what I imagined :P Pictured you with blonde hair for starters and maybe a little older.
-
:D :D :D
1. Pictured you with blonde hair for starters
2. And maybe a little older.
Why thank you JD all these years I have been bathing in the fountain of youth have paid off ha ha. Blonde hair -- well yes, I have my moments but my hair is dark.
Note: I couldn't cut and paste onto Elle McPhersons body so what you see is really ME!!
-
totally agree with the others...on all counts :)
CP love the new avatar and why were you calling me just a baby...you dont look so old yourself :P
-
CP, I think I had about the same picture in my mind of how you looked as Judy had. Lovely avatar, thanks for updating it for us.
-
When I get asked how much anything is, the rule of thumb is quote 50% less ;) ;)
I used to use this formula Maddy but DH is on to me now. He says he multiplies everything by my age and divides by my shoe size and it's probably a lot closer to the truth than what I've quoted. Gotta love 'em. ;D ;D
-
CP, me too. Isn't it funny how we do get an image in our head and how wrong it can be.
-
Leesmac78, your man just need to see the TMX in action! The best way to convince anybody! :)
-
Oh Maddy, what a fabulous idea. That might just do the trick!
LOL.....works for me! 8)
Keep us updated and good luck! :)
-
Love it all. Makes me feel very lucky. DH said I should buy a TMX. He liked the sound of the Chocolate custard. Pretty expensive custard ;D ;D ;D
-
mine too ;D un beknown? to me as he told me not to buy it when i went to the demo but little did I know he had planned to get it for my bday a month later ....little did he realise I wasnt going to wait that long and we had it within a couple of weeks ;D ;D ;D
-
My sister who already owned a TM and I planned to cook up a feast for my DH and convince him through his stomach. It worked a treat he said we should get one straight away, but I decided to act hard to convince and said no we didn't need one (Just for fun) so he end up trying to convince me (When all along I really wanted one).
I had to wait a few weeks though as it was Christmas holidays and everyone was closed for the holidays. But on the 13th January my TM arrived. Was well worth the wait.
I'm glad my bit of fun didn't back fire though
-
He is coming along to the demo... Let's just hope the demonstrator is awesome enough! As I have said, I live in Germany and the demo will be completely in German. I may not understand every word (although hubby can) but I do know how to say "Ja" and "Ich will" and "Jetzt" (Yes, I will and NOW!!!!!) Lucky I have all my new friends here that can give me recipes that I can actually understand in English. Are the instructions for TMX available online? I really don't want to blow the machine up accidentally by misreading and translating the German into English!
-
Sounds like things are moving in the right direction ;) ;)
If you want to have recipe books in English then you can always contact the UK Thermomix people (contact details at http://www.ukthermomix.com/ (http://www.ukthermomix.com/)) and they can send them to you. There are a lot of nice recipes on their site as well as zillions of recipes on here
I suspect they would charge for an English copy of the manual but luckily you can find it here...
http://www.vorwerk.com/thermomix/pdf/instructionmanual_tm31_web.pdf (http://www.vorwerk.com/thermomix/pdf/instructionmanual_tm31_web.pdf)
-
Oh Thanks Katya. I will print it out now and leave it somewhere accidental, like on the bed!!!!! :)
-
Oh what would I do on a Sat afternoon without this forum - probably not be laughing at the computer in the study which is near the entry and the front door is unlocked as well as the study window being opened so that it is obvious to the visitor (who is at the front door), that I am home ALONE - luckily they are not dressed in a white coat - this time anyrate. :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
Who would think I would have this much fun without a TMX. Imagine how I will be when I get the jolly thing???
-
I hope you get your TM real soon. You wont be able to talk your self out of it now. You have the TM bug and the only cure is actually buying one. ;D
-
Just do it and get one, it'll be easier convincing him with the end results I reckon!!!
-
Well leesmac78, I convinced myself by deciding that I would no longer need all the other gadgets that Thermomix can cover. i sold them on Ebay along with my Thermo 21. It freed up my kitchen surfaces no end and the cost of the Thermomix didn't hurt quite so much. You say you have lots of gadgets so tell DH that you are not so much buying one but really exchanging your old stuff for one.
Dot
-
Six days until the demo.... I hope delivery wont take too long! Been talking about it non stop and DH hasn't said no. He is now unable to attend the demo with me. What a shame, I will just have to go alone, with my wallet in hand and a desperate yet excited look in my eye.....
-
I love reading how everyone managed to get a TM! I convinced mine by playing with his hate of cooking and giving him an ultimatum... I get a TM or he has to take over the reigns of cooking dinner every night! But I have helped numerous other friends convince their other half of the benefits...going to a demo seals the deal :)
-
Tomorrow is the party - so excited. Hubby is still not 100%, help???????
-
Just make sure he goes to the demo leesmac, the machine will sell itself.
-
oh good luck leesmac78, I hope you get your dream TM really soon.
-
Have you got ... have you got ... have you got ... yet? Dying to find out if all your gentle (and perhaps not always subtle) persuasion has paid off.
-
Yes: did you get your TMX????
-
We're all dying to know how you went in your quest to convince DH. Did he relent?
-
YOO-HOO leesmac........you've left us in suspenders!!!
What happened?
-
I would love to know too. Any Luck?
-
either one of two things have happened..he has his thermomix and is too excited or DH didnt give in and he is too depressed but we would still like to know leesmac??? There are always ways aruond it so maybe not this time but next time!! :)
-
All the world wants to know if you were able to convince DH. and if so what was the final twist. ...me included :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Maybe he is too busy cooking?
-
Sad to say, but I suspect he was out of luck this time round - hopefully still working on his persuasion skills, though.
-
Sorry everyone, I have been back at work this week and I am crazy busy!!!!
The party was delayed for one week (sick demonstrator) and is on tomorrow night. Hubby is coming and I am sure all will be well.
Fingers crossed everyone! I am not leaving Thermomixworld, I look forward to really joining you all with my very own TMX and sharing my very own new recipes.
Thank you everyone for thinking of me.
-
Oh good so there is still hope for you yet. Good luck and hopefully you will get your TM very soon. Keep us informed because we are all a bunch of sticky beaks lol. No we just love to see everyone get Thermomixes because we know they are brilliant.
-
We went to the party tonight - just arrived home. We ate dips, bread, soup, made salmon, broccoli and risotto together using Varoma, ate yummy berry ice cream and took a pot of jam home to enjoy with breakfast. We read through recipe books (all in German) and did the demonstration almost exclusively in German (don't forget I live in Frankfurt, Germany!!!) We drank beer, wine and schnapps alongside (of course not made in Thermomix, but could we try?) and had a superb evening.
And tomorrow morning, my order for a Thermomix will be placed. I am so excited. Ed (DH) who I think you have all met now, has decided that a Thermomix will be a great addition to our kitchen. Stay tuned for its arrival. I wont be able to sleep the whole night!
Thank you to all of you, my new Thermobuddies for your support and encouragement over these past few weeks. I look forward to really joining the wonderful world of Thermomix officially very soon... There WILL be photos, I promise.
Lee :) ;) :D ;D ;D :D ;) :) :) ;) :D ;D ;D :D ;) :)
-
Brilliant news. I'm so pleased it has all worked out as you hoped. Have a great weekend anticipating your new TMX and keep in touch with the forum. I think we have all enjoyed the suspense and 'discussions' with both you and Ed and I am sure there will be a flood of supportive and congratulatory postings coming up over the weekend. We all get a great 'buzz' when we hear happy endings (or should I say beginnings) like yours - now it's just a matter of waiting until delivery. Plan your first recipes and make sure you have all the ingredients to hand so that you will be ready to jump right in as soon as the TMX is unpacked and ready to go.
-
hurrah lee....so happy for you and totally understand the inability to be able to sleep!!! oh wait until all the aussies wake up...they will be over the moon at the news that a new thermie addict is born lol...the wait will be unbearable but once you get it you wont be able to stop yourself...just watch it or you will end up like the rest of us with ever expanding waistlines or off ot the gym every other day burning off what you can :P
Sounds like you had a great night and dont forget this forum is full of great recipes..you can also contact hte head office in london and get books in english as wellas there are other members in germany on here or are german and live elsewhere so can always help with translation also...oh yay yay yay.....how excited must you be and yes 'met' DH....how sweet that you are both on here and both part of this fab forum ....have a nice night ;)
haha spolke too soon as i was typing one has replied lol!
-
Sounds like you had a great night lee. Was Ed impressed with the Thermomix?
CIAO
-
Lee and Ed. You sound like such a lovely couple. I thought if Ed is bothering to ask of the benefits you would get one Lee. You are both going to love it.
I am a bit jealous of your demo, sounded much more adventurous than mine. Salmon in the varoma- while you made risotto, wow.
Hopefully you won't have long to wait, I had mine in 5 days. Let the fun begin!
-
Glad to see you finally won out Lee - maybe both of you will enjoy using the TMX. Now we can sit back and wait to hear how your new adventure is going. Definitely try and get some English books though, it would make life so much easier for you.
-
Congratulations!!! Hope yours arrives soon too - the wait will feel like forever but with each second the delivery draws nearer... My DH was texting me hourly countdowns on the final day! In the meantime the fun of planning your first dishes awaits... :)
-
Wonderful news Lee that you are ordering your TM.We look forward to hearing all about your future cooking experiences. :)
-
:) ;D :-* :D ;) :) :) ;D :-* :D ;D :) :) ;)
-
That's great news Lee. Was sure once I seen the post from Ed that you were in with a chance. Now you have to do what all before you have done.......Wait. It's the hardest bit I tell you.
-
So exciting for you, Lee (http://www.smiley-faces.org/smiley-faces/smiley-face-bouncing-008.gif) (http://www.smiley-faces.org) - waiting for the arrival of a thermie is a well known emotional place which many on here know well. Looking forward to hearing of your adventures with this wonder buddy!!!!!!
-
That is terrific news. Your demo sounded very special too. I'm so glad that you made it past the post. Choose your first set of recipes and get the ingredients in as you will want to get underway as soon as it arrives. I spent that tense time in between period getting my Thermomix recipe book set up on the computer. I remember that one of my first recipes to Christen the TM was the Vegetable Gratin that was done at my demo and I repeated it because I liked it so much.
Have fun!
-
Yay, Well done ;D. Now while waiting for your TM you can gather together lots of recipes ready for its arrival.
-
Signed, sealed and now the wait begins... Ed has filled the fridge with fresh yeast (funnily enough even BEFORE the order was placed) and I will be now searching the internet and this forum for recipes. What should my first menu be? I assume it will arrive on a day when I am very late home from work and will need something quick (so basically anything). My demonstrator said about 10 days, plus the weekends, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Once again, thank you all for you help. It is wonderful to know that we have so many new friends behind us, should we have any questions, ideas or inspiration.
Lee ;D
-
Welcome Lee and congrats on getting a TMX into your life.
I think a risotto could be an easy first meal and it doesn't take too long. Risottos are one of the things that the machine does really well.
If I were you, I'd advise Ed to put the yeast into the freezer, cut into the appropriate size chunks wrapped in clingfilm. (15-20g). It doesn't keep too well fresh and if you're not getting your machine for 10 days, it might have lost its potency by the time the machine arrives. If you freeze it, it doesn't take long to defrost once you're ready for baking.
I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but there are loads of English recipe books that you can get hold of from UK Thermomix.... and also loads of recipes on their website.
-
I was going to suggest the same thing Katya. Guess at this stage you only have the forum recipes to choose from Lee and there are plenty to choose from.
-
Thank you so much. Yes, darling Ed did buy enough yeast to sink a ship. In fact the top shelf of our fridge is weighed down with yeast so clearing it to the freezer is an excellent idea. Don't they say something about putting the cart before the horse???? Funnily enough, I have caught Ed out - ever since the party, thumbing through all the information our demonstrator left behind. He is more interested in it than I am. Hmmmmmm. These Darling Hubbies - what are we going to do with them?????
-
I think you may soon need a Thermie Roster by the sounds of it ;D You two are just going to have a ball with it when it arrives and we'll look forward to hearing all about what you cook :D
-
Oh what an adventure you guys are going to have - you are having so much fun already and you haven't even got your machine.
Does Ed speak German to be able to understand the book that comes with the machine Lee or are you going to get all your recipes from the forum?
-
Bless Ed, he speaks English, German and Swedish so the recipes at this end are no problem at all. I speak some German and I can read most recipes, just funny things like spoon conversions trip me up sometimes, so Thermie, with its own scales, eliminate most of that tsp and tbs (TL and EL over here). I have downloaded the English manual several times and one can find it in various parts of our home, on various stories.... Bedroom, bathroom, study and kitchen!!! Easiest way I found to drop the hints. Made contact with a TMX Demonstrator in the UK who can send me books directly, all our German books are available online to purchase. My demonstrator even suggests we borrow the books from her for a week before we purchase - how good is that!!! I am interested in the books available in Australia though. Is it the EDC? I fancy one of those when I come over at Christmas. Do I need to buy it from a demonstrator??
Lee ;D ;D
Three sleeps down.....
-
Thermomix HO in the UK will supply you with most books Lee, including the EDC.They are a friendly bunch of people and you can order over the phone, just have your credit card on hand ;) ;)

For interest's sake Lee, this (http://www.thermomix.com.au/tm31-contents01.pdf) is the contents list of the EDC. I like the offer from your consultant to borrow her books for a week.
-
Thanks Cornish Cream!!! Do you have any of those??? Any you personally recommend?

-
That’s what i said ;D
I will be selling mine very soon ;)
-
Thanks Cornish Cream!!! Do you have any of those??? Any you personally recommend?
I have quite a few of the Thermomix books Lee. :-)) The TM31 here in the UK comes with the Fast and Easy Cookbook, lovely recipes and I always have it to hand when I want to convert a recipe. If you and Ed enjoy Indian food the Fast and Easy Indian Cookbook is superb and well worth buying.I recently bought the EDC so I can keep up with what everyone in Oz is talking about :D :D The forum is a superb reference library for quality recipes that the members have tried, tested and tweaked. ;) ;)
-
Great, thanks! I wonder if the EDC is cheaper to buy when I come to Australia, or perhaps my Mom can send me a little gift. She has no idea what a Thermomix is. I have sent an email to UK HO and they have put me in touch with someone so I can buy books and she can freight them to me. Cheaper the EDC by a long shot. I could probably get 2-3 books from the UK rather than the $80 it would cost to get it sent from ebay with freight. I will be in Australia over Christmas, so perhaps I can organise a little book buying when I am there.
Do demonstrators usually have a stock of books for sale? My mother in law lives in Highbury, Adelaide and I should be able to drive to someone during the Christmas period. Or else, I will be with my family in Brighton, Melbourne. Surely there is someone around between Christmas and New Year.
Still waiting for my Thermodarling to arrive... Can't be too long now! I would dearly love it to arrive on Friday, ready for the weekend. I am nervous of it arriving on a Monday. Work is just so crazy right now.
L xx
-
Lee you should be able to buy your books from any consultant when you are over at Christmas, otherwise you can organise to buy them from HO and get them posted to your Mum's.
You could probably organise them from Germany before you come over and have them posted to your mum's. If you know a consultant in Adelaide, get in contact before you come over to make sure they have all of what you want (as head office closes over Christmas)
Otherwise I am happy to help you order them and get them delivered to your Mum's ready for when you come over.

How excitement! Glad it all happened, and you watch.....Ed will probably use it more! :P
......now begins the agonizing wait!
-
My Thermochum has been dispatched by HO. It is in the hands of DHL now to bring it to me within 48 hours. So near yet so far
;D
-
Fingers crossed, you may get it by the weekend
-
It is in the hands of DHL now to bring it to me within 48 hours.
This abbreviation had me stumped and I was trying to think of lots of possibilities...until I realised, of course its the courier company :-))
-
The boys aren't getting a delivery demo so I have sent them this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1549.0) list of hints and tips for new owners which ILB posted - it will be a great help for them and any other new owners.
-
Looking good for a Friday delivery
-
I was so looking forward to a delivery demonstration but that is not the way it is done here in Deutschland. Here, the demonstrator does their thing and then we are on our own. Of course we can telephone them for questions and the like but essentially, that's it!!! However, there are cooking classes being run and naturally for a fee, we can attend. Oh well. At least I have all of you here at the forum which is far better than one demonstrator!!
xxx lee xxx
-
Hope it arrives today, guys so that you can have a weekend 'TMX orgy'! Not sure whether to expect to hear from you again for a while or not now because of the excitement of the new arrival, but I am hoping that you will take time to let us know that your thermochum has arrived safely and been plugged in!
-
Plugged in??? It's hardly been turned off!!!!! JudyDawn tells me that Thermie has a black box which records the number of hours of use... I am going for a record!!!
