Title: Has anyone made Besun or Gram flour?
Post by: fimum21 on July 09, 2011, 04:37:31 am
I have done some googling and have varied advice that besun or gram flour is either flour made from roast chickpeas or flour made from Channa dahl. I just put some channa dahl into my tx and zapped it on 9 for about a minute until it made a fine "flour". Do you think I can use it in recipes wanting besun flour? It looks like flour but having never used Besun before I have nothing to compare it with!
This might not be in the right place, let me know if I may get more replies under a different sub-heading.
TIA,
Fiona

we make besan flour for our varoma demo's. Works well though it sounds like you are in a war zone - be warned!!

Thanks for the reply. What do you make it with? Channa dahl?

Hi Cookie, thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking here for a while using recipes etc but have not had a reason to post yet. The search facility is great, has saved me on many an occassion.

Hi fimum - besan flour is made from chickpeas, and gram flour from lentils (as far as I know). The flavour would be a bit different for both but I suspect you could replace one with the other in most recipes.
