Hello, was wondering if any parts of the TM can be cleaned in the dishwasher? Obviously not the machine ;) but what about the seal, lid, varoma set, and steamer basket. I know of someone that puts their bowl in, but i am not sure if that would be a good idea. :-\ How do you clean your TM?????? Looking forward to some response

Hi Kate and welcome to the forum.
there are a couple of discussion on here about cleaning. Basically all of your bowl, blades, lid, seal, MC, varoma can go in the dishwasher. As you said obviously not the machine.
It is recommended by our technician here in Australia that the bowl have minimal contact with the dishwasher as apparently our detergents are a lot harsher than others and we are more likely to have wear on the pins. Mine see's the dishwasher from time to time for sure.
Hope this helps you out ;)

Wow thanks for the fast response. I did search "dishwasher" and "clean" but it didn't come up with anything so i thought i would ask. I was hoping it was dishwasher safe, cos somehow things always seems cleaner, and more hygienic out of the dishwasher. Thanks again for the fast response.

another little tip when searching Kate is to make sure you are searching from the home page, otherwise you only search in the category you are browsing in. There are about three pages of topics on "dishwasher" search, but we all get caught out from time to time until we learn to search from the home page - and sometimes even still after that!! ;) :D

thanks for the tip on searching! I am new! :-[ great to read past threads. I am a bit undecided whether to put my bowl in or not now. :-\

hmmn, I never used to until just recently when I just can't be bothered doing another handwash
because other people enjoying the food I cook don't help with the kitchen clean up. I didn't know that about the pins :o, so I will think twice before putting it in the dishwasher

Adelaide water is supposed to be very hard so I think I have only washed my bowl twice in the dishwasher in the 2.5 years I've had it. It really is the easiest thing in the world to wash so to me, it is not a problem. Occasionally I put the varoma dishes in there but even that is rare, depends on how much I need to sit down and rest :P

Wow - I put mine in the dishwasher probably every 2nd day - it gives it a really good clean - have been told it was perfectly fine to do so and that is also what I tell all my customers... faffa - the message from the technition has not got through to us here in NSW! I also put the Varoma, lid, seal (seal must be IN the lid or the dishwasher heat will deform it) rice basket etc in the dishwasher. I find it is the best way to clean Varoma esp when i have done the veges with fetta cheese!

I hadn't heard that you keep the seal in the lid when you put it in the dishwasher. Thanks for mentioning that, I have always put it in separately, but I'll remember to keep it clipped in place in the lid from now on.
-
See I hadn't heard about the seal being kept in the lid and put it separate when I do happen to put it in the dishwasher ??? ???
-
I was told by the Tassie GL that the lid seal is not to go in the dishwasher at all. My lid seals were constantly splitting when I used to put them in the dishwasher. I haven't had one split since I started handwashing them.

In France it all goes in the dishwasher, bowl, whisk, blades, lid, mc and varoma but only the newer versions ie the last few years, apparnelty the older versions are not dishwasher safe. In the manual it says you can put it in the dishwasher so in any case any problems from washing in the dishwasher would be covered under warranty :)
-
I put it all in, except the MC. My MC went cloudy and opaque from the dishwasher. The new one from my second bowl has always been handwashed, and it's still clear and new looking.

I have an "older" TM bowl and the blades are different to look at than the newer version.I have put the lid and seal in the dishwasher.

How old is an older tm bowl, CC?
I've always separated my seal and lid - I like to make sure any micro-organisms are washed away - any crevaces are a sure place for micro-organisms to breed, and in a nice warm and moist environment such as the dishwasher, they'd multiply like no one's business.

Sorry thermohaven I should have written because my bowl is quite old (I have had my TM for 41/2 years)it was supplied with the older type of blades.
-
All my parts get washed in the dishwasher and several times every day(5-15) times but my dishwasher is also faster then home dishwashers(2.5 min). Dont know if its the dishwasher which has broken my jug but i have had to buy 2 new Jugs the past 2 years and have had 2 machine repairs and 3 sets of blades. I think i have spent about 7-800 euro in 2 years on the TMX.
Anyway im just happy that its fast and easy to have it repaired and its not so different then any other appliance in a professional kitchen, they all need repairs once in a while.

CC, do you have a second, later model bowl as well?

thanks CC forget to menbtion you can tell by the baldes...i foudn that out as a girlfriend of mine has the older thermomix and blades and she cant put hers in the dishwasher...also I know there can be problems with the spatula and the old blades butr you can buy new blade set but Im not sure why its not dishwasher safe like the newer models.. For the cloudiness Ive been told if you put white vinegar in teh rinsing liquid compartment that gets rid of cloudy items...not sure if it works as i have ony just put the vinegar in and havent put a load of dishes through yet!.. Another girlfriend of mine just got her thoermomix and the mc is all new and shiny..

I had to go and get my blades to compare them with yours CC - only then could I see the difference :P :P
-
The newer blades are so much easier to clean. The older type of blades get bits stuck between those prongs that stick up in the middle. :P
