Title: Excited Owner
Post by: Karen Joy on May 04, 2011, 12:44:19 pm
Hi Everybody,

My husband offered the Thermomix for our 2nd wedding anniversary two days ago and I just cant contain my excitement about it.  I'm impatiently waiting for it to be delivered (three weeks seem so long!) and I cant wait to try some recipes on it and share it with my family.

I am happy to find this forum and it's just encouraging to read other people's experience about it.

Good luck and happy cooking!

KD

Hi KD, welcome to the forum. An offer from DH too good to refuse - lucky you.  Soon you will become as enthusiastic as the rest of us when you discover the amount of things you can make in this little wonder.  In the meantime, have a good browse on the forum and get a pile of recipes & ingredients together ready for your first week of playtime.

:) Such warm welcome! Thanks guys! Yes, this gift is really a very nice surprise.  We attended a demo by a friend who just can't stop talking about how marvelous this thing is.  Little did I know that DH, had already set his mind on buying one even before we went to the demo  :D  And I was truthfully impressed of what it can do...it is like all the kitchen gadgets combined into one!

I just moved here in France from the Philippines and I am just happy to have found this forum (in English! ;)) Am sure, the cookbook that comes with the package will be in French! (Still working on this though) So, it's comforting to know there's always somewhere to 'double check' the recipes.  :)

By the way, how long did it take for your TMs to be delivered?

Hi Fundj, am looking forward to it.  I like to baking cakes and I used to bake a lot when I was in the Philippines.  However,  being new here, I'm having fun trying out the French dishes.

Congratulations on your wonderful gift Karenjoy.   Time seems to go by so slowly when you're waiting for something so special to arrive.
 :D :D
If you want some cookbooks in English, you could contact the UK Thermomix office and they will mail them to you.   http://www.ukthermomix.com/ (http://www.ukthermomix.com/)

Hi karen
as you may have noticed I am also in France not far from Tours (where abouts in France are you? and is your DH french or another nationality entirely).  I am an aussie living in France for quite some time now and my DH is french.  The book A Table and yes in french will come with the thermomix but like katya said you can get alot of english books from the UK website on the link katya posted and they have a contact..you cant buy them online but you need to email or call them and can order through them.. i just asked them to email me a list of their books and prices then completed the order form and sent it back and called to pay by credit card..they were very helpful and very quick with postage also.  You can also get them from oz but the postage is a killer and you can get most of the books from oz on the UK site.  In France you will also get a magazine every quarter that has a bunch of seasonal recipes in it, the first year is free then its 15 euros a year if you want to continue.  I get alot of recipes on here and also the french thx forum but mainly this one as its the type of cooking i like..such a mix of all sorts of cuisine..plus the forum is so friendly and helpful.  Every country is different but in france it takes two weeks to be delivered and unlike other countries also you cant get books or any parts from your consultant unless its a gift at a demo..everything has to be dealt with directly through the french HO and factory just so your aware.  If you want to know anything dont hesitate to ask or send me a pm  :) :)

wow that has to be hard...knowing its there and not being able to use it/get it...hope you sort out a time for ups to come back to deliver as you wont be home..i know how france is with 'working hours' makes it impossible to get anything done/delivered when you are at work all day..other option is leaving a note for them to deliver it to your neighbour if you know them..at least you will have it tomorrow night..  good luck and let us know when you get it  :)

Bad news! it was for the magazines that I ordered few days ago! and not my TM!  :( Well, at least they are true to their word...it really is three weeks for the delivery!

So, dinner tonight was simple pasta with bacon and no strawberry sorbet I was dreaming about this afternoon!  :(

Ok, have to be positive now...tomorrow is Friday..then, it will be just one week more to wait!

Oh, what a disappointment - it's as well you didn't take a sick day off work - you can still use that up when you know the TMX is coming!

look at it in a positive way...you have another week to plan what you want to cook and expand your list of recipes..

also if you have an iphone or ipad or similar or just your pc you can get evernote (free)...its basically an electronic notepad if you dont know it and i find it fantastic and you can add anything to it not just recipes and access them in the supermarket if you forgot an ingredient for something or take it to the kitchen to access recipesz rather than printing off a bunch of recipes etc etc...i think its fantastic and got onto it after meganjane mentioned she used it also on another post..there are other software out there more like electronic cookbooks but they are more for recipes only whereas evernote can be for anything..like i said a notepad that you can organise and access anywhere...just a tip as you have anohter week to wait ...you can also put it on your pc and they all syncronise/update (sorry my brain is not giving me the word im looking for but you get the gist)... i get recipes i want to try etc and file them under different labels...just an idea haha!

good luck with the waiting...just think that sorbet will taste even better in a week  :) :)

Thanks Frozzie!  I will try to search for that app.  It sure sounds helpful.  I usually hate making list especially for groceries and an on the spot list can be nice. :-)

haha...yes! I found a better solution. I called the UPS center here and told them, I'll pick my TM from their office on my way home. :-)

My husband already placed his request this morning.  He asked me to make some desserts for his 'picnic' at work. hmm...tricky! ;D

How exciting - at last it's (nearly) home, where it belongs.  Have a great time and enjoy your TMX adventure.  Let us know how it all goes and what you decided to cook for DH's work picnic - those raspberry brownies that have been on the forum the last day or two sound like a good option?  :D

Hi Cuilidh, Frozzie,

We're picking it from the quay this afternoon after work.  Will be making the Shrimp couscous (with bisque) tonight.  It was the dish Nathalie, my agent made during the demo and it was just divine.  Prepared my shrimps and veggies last night  ;) and the strawberry sorbet for dessert! my colleagues said the cherries are not very nice for sorbets..ok, we'll see  :)

For the picnic, apparently, there is already somebody who will bring chocolate cake, so, I'm thinking of Tiramisu (most of them loves this dessert).  What an exciting challenge! will check on that raspberry brownies...sounds nice too.

Frozzie, what is raspberries in French? framboises?  ???
Title: Re: Excited Owner
Post by: Frozzie on May 17, 2011, 10:13:27 am
hi karen

yes framboises is raspberries in french...i have found that rasperries or strawberries mixed with melon (rockmelon for those of you in oz..just plain old melon here) is divine but it has to be ripe fruit obviously...if you cant find any nice fresh ones i go to picard (you should have one near you) or even just the supermarket and get frozen melon and either rasperries or strawberries and use that for the sorbet...50/50...

i have a neighbour who goes to the markets (a big one near where we live) and buys ripe fruit in bulk then chops it and freezes it that way you have fresh fruit ready to go when you need it for things like sorbets etc etc

its getting close now to the pick up time  :)

no problem cuilidh..it helps to have a world clock on your computer...i do as our family and friends are all over from the states to throughout europe and of course oz with the various time zones so without it im totally lost and definately dont want to be calling someone in the middle of the night or at some strange hour because i thought it was another time... :P

Finally got it!  Made strawberry sorbet and shrimp couscous with bisque last night.  My family loves it esp the sorbet.  Now, I'm thinking about what to cook this evening! oh, this is so addicting!! hehe...have to concentrate at work now.

By the way, can anybody help me how to remove the shrimp smell left in the lid? After cooking the bisque last night, even after few cleanings, the smell it still there.  I left the lid soaked in a soapy water today.  I dont know if will be ok tonight.

Thanks!
