Breakfast smoothie with linseeds, to delay the dreaded colonoscopy
I'm working on an IBD project, but enough said. I try to make us all a fruit smoothie for breakfast, adding a handful of linseeds, which are great in helping bowel callesthetics and also for our daily dose of omega -3 fatty acids.
Ingredients: for 3 - 4 large glasses of juice
30 - 40 g linseeds or about 1 large spoon per person (I usually use a mixture of brown and golden linseeds)
fruit (washed and chopped), (about 2 pieces per person or if using berries allow a large handful per person)
8 - 10 ice cubes
approximately 200 -300 g water
raw sugar (optional)
Preparation:
Process linseeds on speed 9 for 40-50 seconds. Add fruit, ice and sugar, and blend for 30 seconds on speed 10. Add water and blend for around 30 seconds more on speed 7-8.
A daily dose of raw linseeds whizzzed up in the Thermomix with seasonal fruit provides an inexpensive source of omega-3 and promotes the good bacteria. More info and references to a couple of Nature papers are in my blog: http://dvfood.blogspot.com/2011/04/our-morning-fruit-smoothie-and-linseed.html (http://dvfood.blogspot.com/2011/04/our-morning-fruit-smoothie-and-linseed.html)
Variation: add a handful of nuts, rolled oats, yoghurt or milk for a more substantial breakfast.
Ok, I really tried to put some photos in here, but it is beyond my capabilities. Can someone please tell me how it's done. Do I need to put them on a web album? Normal copy-paste doesn't seem to work.

Sounds like a good idea, chdv.
I almost have this smoothie every morning (LSA with golden linseeds on top of porridge with blueberries stirred through!). Still have colonoscopies every couple of years due to strong family history of bowel cancer, but it's reassuring to know that my "accidental smoothie" is good for me.

Too late for me :-\ :-\ :-\ The smoothie still sounds good.

chdv, below I have copied a posting from Chelsea (in my mince meat curry recipe of all places) and was how I learnt to reduce the size of the photos to post onto the forum. Give it a try.
"I think there is probably a very easy way, but this is what I do.
I open the folder where the photo is currently saved (can even be your camera folder).
I right click on the photo and a menu appears.
I click on the "open with" option.
I then click on the "paint" option and it will open in the paint program (don't worry if it is huge).
I then click on the "image" menu at the top.
I click on the stretch and skew option in the image menu.
In stretch and skew I change the stretch settings to 25% and 25% (and leave the other settings).
I then click on the file menu and click on the "save as" option.
I type a new name for my smaller sized photo.
I find the folder where I want to save my resized photo in the drop down menu (I use "my pictures" folder)
I click on save and then close the paint program.
The smaller sized photo will be saved in the folder I selected and will open in almost every application (not just paint).
It sounds complicated but that's just because I have put in all of the steps (I hope). Hope this helps"

That will make them smaller JD and to put them on the forum you need to click on attachments at the bottom of your post and then you can locate the folder container your photos (does not need to be a web album). When you are writing your next post chdv have a look down the bottom of the screen and you will see the attachment area.
-
Thanks, Judy and Chelsea. I'll do my best to follow your directions when I post next.

I use a slightly different method than JD (I have too many senior moments when using paint option), but instead use picture manager with the following steps.
- After opening folder containing the pic you wish to post, right click on pici/li]
- In the drop down box, move cursor to open with, left click microsoft picture manager - the pic will now open as full screen
- Right click on pic, on drop down box move cursor to edit pictures - left click
- On the right side of screen move cursor to compress pictures - double click
- Click on web pages and then the OK box
You now have 2 options to save the compressed picture
1 File save as - you will now have both the original and the compressed pic or
2 click on X to close your screen - a prompt box appears asking whether you want to save the changes (by clicking on save changes you will not have the original size pic only the compressed version - as I delete all food pics after posting this is never a concern for me).
Pics are now ready to post following Chelsea's instuctions for attaching.
Have a play and see which method you prefer! Cheers :) :)

Thanks johnro, very helpful info! When I have time to post again, I'll try this (and let you know if it works!)
Cheers, Cheryl

any software that allows you to edit and resize pictures would be fine..most computers come with one..youcan tell when in explorer you right click on teh file and go to open with..it gives you a list of possible software present on your computer..i use irfanview, which i downloaded as its free and does so many things with pictures etc, very versatile..i just rezise the picture and when you rename it you can also reduce the quality to further reduce the size..very easy then as chelsea said for adding the picture to a post.see attachemnts.

Thanks Frozzie.
Well I guess I should try posting a photo now .............(http://)
-
Thanks everyone for your photo posting instructions! It works :D :)
-
one more thing, why isn't the photo where it should be? Is there another option here that I should be using to put the photo where I want it to be in my text?
Cheryl
-
unfortunately its at the bottom of the post unless you copy and paste it into your text and its small enough otherwise it wont paste but generally it goes to the bottom of the post as you will notice in alot of other posts :)
-
Glad that you have mastered the art of pics on the forum Cheryl. :) :)
-
thanks johnro :)
Frozzie, do I add the photo by clicking additional options, and then copy paste from there?
Cheryl
-
Yes, click on additional options then on the word browse which should bring up your pictures file Cheryl.

thanks johnro :)

Cheryl
no not by copy and pasting it.. when you click additional options you download the file ie select it from wherever it is saved on your computer and it goes to teh bottom of your post but not copy and pasted.if you want photos throughout your post then you copy and paste..but it doesnt always work as i think it can get blocked if the size of the photo is too big etc and you are also limited either way by how many photos you can add (think its 4?)...you just go to your photo on your computer and right click on it and copy it then paste it where you want it when your typing the text for your post?? understand?? im not always clear lol!
