Here we go. Please add all your tried and true recipes.
I've found some of the easiest recipes for travelling are all sorts of risottos, just add whatever you have. You only need to take the rice, stock and parmesan.
We also love Judy's Beef and Beer.

I'll add more as I think of them.

Meatballs / Rissoles (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5290.0)
...I'll add more too
-
We tend to go camping on the Isle of Wight where the in-laws live. So I often do all-in-one fish dishes with freshly caught fish or, like cookie said, risottos. Soups too, obviously. I think I'm going to try Chelsea's Bangers and mash http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3821.0 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3821.0) this year too.
Any of the all in one meals would work for us - it's less washing up at the end!! I thought we had a category for these now and wanted to put the URL here for easy reference for everyone. But apparently not, and they're quite hard to find using the search function too (for me at least). I'm off to ask MM if he'll add an extra category for us.
Having said that, it isn't unusual for me to do the side veg in thermie, and bbq some meat.

Hurray for MM. :-* In case you haven't already noticed, there's now an All-in-one category on the home page. Thanks MM.

I will include a category of 'all in ones' but to me that seems like the dreaded 'boil in the bag' which I won't go near, not even back packing!
As I have said in my posts camping does not have to be 'slumming it' in any shape or form. Those who think it is have clearly no experience of 'real modern camping'. Take yourself off and have a look at what is out there, just seen a camper/RV which is available for £100k! includes a bath!!!! :-))
-
oh dont agree with all in ones being like boil in the bag??there are some lovely meals..just means they are meals that you cook all at once and dont have multiple cooking stages ie all the ingredients in and different layers set up and off you go..not only good for while your away but also for busy families who dont have alot of time for preparation and cooking. i dont think it comes down to slumming it as seriously slumming it with a thermomix doesnt really go, just simplifying life and enjoying more the holiday than spending your time cooking and taking so many bits and pieces and ingredients with you or being able to store them (even in an luxury camper)..!
-
cooking is something we do as a family of 6, with or without the TM. getting the ingredients together is all part of the process which we do together, getting everything ready so that it is all arriving at the correct time is about planning the process, again something we do together whether on holiday or at home.
Yes we do some all in one meals but everyday. Yes some are excellent but just because you are on holiday does not mean that you need to go down this route.
I did not imply that all in one was slumming it, rather that camping does not need to be slumming it which was what some respondents were suggesting :-))
-
good to hear you all get involved but think the majority of people on holiday like to keep it tasty but simple..think it all comes down to having a break now and then :) If your after just good meals and it doesnt change much for you from home or away then why ask for meals for camping??? Maybe you should have just asked for everyones favourite meals which there is a thread for here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5035.0) regarding members top 10 or preferred meals and another here for ideas for what members are cooking each day here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=320.0) where you have 318 pages to get through! If this is still not what your after maybe you need to be a bit more speciifc in what your after????

Ok folks still working on this an have found the perfect accompaniment to the TN when camping! Yes its a Cobb BBQ system, beautifully styled and technologically sound just like the TM but it will enable you bake, make pizza and do all the things that you do in the oven when you have been using your TM at home.
For those who are going to respond about weight, size etc. Taking the TM camping is easy and not an issue except if you go back packing in which case you probably wont want to carry the TM or a Cobb but for us car based campers who do not tow a caravan and therefore don't have an oven this is an excellent coast effective solution.
I will keep you posted how we get on with this during the summer as we head off on our holidays.

Here's the link to this machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djhQbWhAxzc
Available in Australia by the look of it, just google it.
-
We've met quite a few people who have these and like them. We don't as we have the vaqn and take an Easy Cook with us.
If you are unsure what it is this (http://www.easycook.com.au/) may help.
-
Does it really clean itself Cookie, I know people wonder that about the TMX so I can wonder the same about the Easy Cook :-))
-
More or less. You just put the water and a bit of detergent in it and put it on for a bit. I still like to give it a wash, especially after cooking a roast in it.
-
Australians would have seen the magazine 'Escape' in last Sunday's paper in which it referred to a recipe book for campers called 'The Holiday Lifestyle Cookbook' (http://www.aroundoz.com/a_whats_new_archive/book_reviews/robyn_cook.htm). There were a few recipes in the magazine from the book and I made the Quick & Simple Apple Pie using my own stewed apples done in the TMX and not a can as per the recipe. Nothing startling but certainly easy. Just wondered if Australian campers might like to investigate this book to take away with them although having a TMX, I doubt if it is necessary.
-
make pizza and do all the things that you do in the oven when you have been using your TM at home.
...interesting mindmapper. I look forward to hearing how you found the Cobb. It really does look good, and if you can also make pizza's, roasts etc its sounds like it could be put to good use - especially in Australia where it is too hot to cook inside during the high temps in Summer.
-
Thanks Judy. I'm always ready to check these sorts of things out. I saw a different book in Dymocks several weeks ago and it was nearly all casseroles and risottos. TMX food.

Hi timfulford,
Just wondering if you or anyone else could fill me in on how you use the TM whilst camping, regarding the wattage etc, do you cook in it or just use it for the non cooking features. I would like to take it with me but try to stay out of Caravan Parks, so not usually any 240v except for when I can use a gennie and don't know how it would go with cooking, most folks say no heating devices except at parks......Also I have a Cobb and was thinking of selling as I have not had the use, even though I like the idea, some of the Nat Parks won't let you use even heat beads, so I have been thinking about getting a Weber BabyQ and doing everything else in the Van.
-
Jan, I can't answer for Tim but investing in a 2000w Generator or 2000w inverter will mean you can use your TMX wherever you go (with car or caravan) Also it's worth investing in the more durable demonstrators bag if you are off roading. Ours has been to may remote locations. I love it.
-
I take my Dreampot, which is wonderful on the road. It even cooks while you are driving along.
-
I love my dreampot too. ;D
-
Aldi has a thermal cooker (which I assume is the same as a dream pot) for sale this week.
-
Jan as mentioned a 2000kw generator will run your thermomix. Ours travels with us in the van and has done 1000's km. I have a black bag and it has been good
-
What is the cost of a generator? We go tent camping with an oil cooker and kerosene lamp . I would love a camper an or camp in a caravan park but DH says that's not real camping.
-
Here is a link to a blog I read ages ago about what the blogger makes and takes etc with her TMX when camping. If you scroll quite a way down, there are 'notes from my husband about travelling with the Thermomix' where he talks generators etc, if you are interested

-
Jamberie that is excellent. We take our generator if we have the van for when we 'free' camp. I love the silence but you only need to run the generator for a short time.
-
MEP - prices vary wildly but they can be very expensive. If you are running a second battery set up in your car, an inverter may be a better option for you.
-
Thanks Jadey. Great link Jamberie. We have only ever done non powered camping so suggesting that We take TMX with us on next camping trip would be too much for poor DH I think. He wouldn't even consider taking it on skiing holiday to NZ for two weeks or Xmas holidays to the grandparents interstate.
-
We paid quite a lot for our generator.
We used to have a second battery in the car, until DH was drilling something near the tow bar and drilled right through the wires that go from the Engel to the second battery. He didn't realise it and somehow or other the battery burnt out. He took a while to live that down. He will put another battery in before we go away.
-
for a 2KVA Dunlite inverter generator its about $2240
Depends on if you want a inverter or standard generator.
-
Our generator is a Honda 2 kw inverter model and was about $1800 or so a few years ago. You need an inverter model to run electrical things.
-
Aldi has 2200w generators on sale at the moment for $299 - that's very cheap.
-
Thanks but we don't have an Aldi in WA.
-
Boo hoo :'( one day we'll have one and hopefully a Costco too.
-
This thread is *gold* - oh what the heck, the whole forum is gold. Thanks to all contributors.
-
Do you and your DH have a van Cecilia?
-
No, Cookie, but some treasured customers do, and I refer them all to forumthermomix.com, using your username in vain. Let me know if that is not OK.
-
My pleasure. I have actually made myself a little book of recipes I use in the van. Some are mine but most are from the forum. It's simply photocopied pages with a cover and bound, but it is very useful. Easier to travel with than all my files.
-
Camping again this year in France and took the TM of course. Used everyday. made our own crepes, pizza dough, bread, steamed veg, sauces, marinades for the bbq. Even made some red currant jam as there were loads growing around all of the pitches!
