Rice Pudding MWOC
I made this exactly as per the recipe except that I cooked it a little longer as I felt the rice wasn't really cooked.
It is very tasty and my DH preferred it to the EDC one as that has eggs. We felt this was creamier. I served it with lovely red stewed plums.
Score 5/5
-
mmm rice pudding and stewed fruit ;D ;D
-
I made the rice pudding in the EDC and found it way to thick. I think my measurements must of been wrong. I guess it should be creamy? Tasted great though.
-
we often make the EDC rice pudding, so will have to give this one a go too to compare ;D
-
I haven't tried making one yet, but am addicted to chocolate Le Rice... do you think either of the recipes could be adapted to make a chocolate one? And would someone mind PMing me the MWOC one - pretty please?
-
I'll send it dyljon.
-
Thanks Judy!
-
Judy, would you mind sending the recipe to me too. I didn't have much success with the edc one and the kids love rice pudding so I'd love to give this one a go. Hope you don't mind.
Debbie
-
On it's way Debbie.
-
Thanks so much Judy. Will give it a try in the next few days.
Thanks
Debbie
-
Excuse my ignorance - what is MWOC and Judy can you also send me whatever the recipe for rice pudding is that you have been sending out today please!!
-
Demak, the book is My Way of Cooking a book which is like the Full Steam Ahead cookbook - photos of every recipe. Recipe on it's way.
-
Hi JD, would appreciate if you could sent to me also. I had mixed success with the EDC version and would like to try this one.
Many thanks,
Katie
-
OK on it's way.
-
I hope you all enjoy it.
-
Hi Judy. Hate to be a pain but could I have the recipe too. Pretty please with cherries on top.
-
It's on it's way without the cherries dede :D
-
lol. Thanks Judy.

It's been raining here in Adelaide all day today so I fancied a nice hot rice pudding tonight. Thought I had better try this one after having sent it to so many. Waiting for the 15 minutes rest time, put some in a bowl and did the taste test. Yuk! So salty. I couldn't work out why as I distinctly remember only putting a pinch of salt in. I was really puzzled so retraced the steps in my mind and yes, I had picked up the brown pottery salt pot to spoon in the 50g 'sugar'. That has to be my worst senior moment so far - DH laughed but I didn't think it was funny because I didn't have enough short-grain rice to make another batch. Must say it looked really nice though ;D ;D
-
LOL! Poor JD - if I lived closer I would pop round with some more rice for you to make another batch :D It really is warm pudding weather here in Adelaide today isnt it - hard to believe it is mid-summer ???
-
Thanks KJH, a lovely thought. I'm just loving this weather.
-
lol. That is funny. Hope you didnt try a big mouth full before you realized. Everytime I make rice pudding I will now remember that and double check.

Easily done Judy and the sort of thing I would do :D :D My worst senior moment, putting toilet rolls in the freezer, now that is funny. :D :D
-
LOL :D :D :D Now that is the kind of thing I did when I was pregnant, CC
-
:D :D I made DH a coffee yesterday and carried the carton of milk into him instead of the mug of coffee but that is nothing compared to what you did CC.
-
Very many liked minded people on this forum!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :) :D :D - cheers to all. :) :)
-
Judy, how annoying for you. I can imagine that you were looking forward to the rice pudding too.
As for seniors moments, I feel better reading that others do silly things like I do.
-

Made my replacement batch this afternoon - much better without all that salt. It does set rather hard though so you need to add more milk when you either reheat it or serve it cold. Dyljon, tomorrow I will add some grated chocolate to a bowl of rice pudding before I reheat it and let you know how it turns out.
-
Thanks Judy!
-
I made it and had a brainstorm.
I added a cup of mixed orange Jello. I had made a salad recipe that did not require all the Jello and it was still warm and liquid.
I used the Splenda/sugar baking mix instead of straight sugar and I used 1/3 less.
-
So was it nice andie? Wouldn't the jello make it set even firmer when cold?
-
Am I stretching a friendship asking for it as well?! Thanks

Not at all girls, will organise it for you.

I am always amazed at the generosity of spirit on this forum, I think that the forum has been as great a gift as my beloved thermie!!!

My demonstrator rang me last night to see how I was going with my TMX and was amazed when I rattled off all I had made so far! I told her how I did a lot of homework and most of that was here on this forum ;D so I had already printed off easy recipes to try and it has certainly helped my TMX journey so far.......
Sharon
ETA - thanks JD guess what we are having for dessert tonight ;)
-
We've now made this 6 times since we have been away. DH shares it out to friends. Last night we didn't have any for us. :'(
-
Your DH is being too generous Cookie :D :D
-
I made another one this afternoon, I had to use part arborio as I had run out of medium grain. We kept most of this one for ourselves. DH has just returned from crabbing. Crabs for lunch tomorrow. :D
-
Judy :P can I bug you for a copy too please? One of my sons eats what I call creamed rice almost daily and my recipe doesn't work well in the thermomix :) Thank you mwah!!
-
No problems Lexi.
-
I would also love you to send me your recipe. I love rice pudding but I don't like the one done in my TMX, pressure cooker, slow cooker, Remoska cooker, microwave, or ordinary cooker. Gosh I never realised I had all these cookers till I wrote them down! :o
My mother used to make hers in a very slow oven for hours and it was a blush pink with a deep brown skin on top. I have never tasted one as good.
DD
-
It's not my recipe DD, it is from the cookbook My Way of Cooking but it sounds as if your Mum's recipe is going to be hard to beat ;D ;D
-
sounds like your mum had a secret recipe... do you reckon she may have mixed berries or rhubarb in it?
In Perth over the weekend I am sure there were some variations in one of the local newspapers
-
Strangely enough, my mothers recipe was the most simple. She just mixed full cream milk with pudding rice and sugar into a bowl. A little grated fresh nutmeg was mixed in and then more nutmeg was then liberally grated on top and also a walnut size piece of butter. (The butter made the skin softer and prevented it from becoming like a parchment texture) It was then put into a slow oven often overnight. It needs to be slow for the rice to absorb the milk without it boiling.
I have never been as successful in an electric oven. :(
DD
-
Hi Judy, would you also be able to send a copy my way?
-
I think this is the one you are looking for then DD. I had it sent to me from one of the forum members but she is reluctant to put UK Thermomix recipes from their books onto the forum. I have found the same recipe though on someone's blog so have a try, it is really nice. It is called Spanish Rice Pudding. (http://www.stephberg.com/?p=580)
-
QuirkyJo has a gorgeous rice pudding on her blog: Creamy Coconut Vanilla Rice Pudding. Made it last night, and it is my favourite rice pudding recipe so far!
Sorry, but I dont know how to put a link to the actual recipe on here, but her blog is: www.quirkycooking.blogspot.com
QuirkyJo - can we persuade you to post the recipe on the forum ;D :-* ;D :-* ;D :-*
-
Here's the link KJH http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2011/05/creamy-coconut-vanilla-rice-pudding.html
-
On it's way Wonder.
-
Thanks Judy
-
Hi Judy,
Can you please send me the recipe too. I am guessing that there is some good reason why you can't post it - copyright, etc.
I have no more chocolate souffles in the freezer so we are going to try rice pudding tonight. :)
Cheers,
Chris
-
On its way Chris.
-
Hi Judy,
I know this is a bit late but any change you could please send to me please.
Many thanks,
Lisa

This is the one that I use, it tastes just like Ambrosia Creamed Rice, and is so easy. I reduce the sugar by at least half, and still find it sweet enough. It's lovely with a dollop of home made jam in the middle of the bowl.
This was the recipe that made DH consider that Thermie was worth the money.... We had both got in late from work, no tea organized, and not enough leftovers for everyone, so I quickly weighed the rice and milk into the bowl, set Thermie to do his magic, made sandwiches, had a shower and then filled (and warmed) everyone up with the most delicious rice pudding.
-
Judy, I have just seen this and would like to try the rice pudding recipe if you would be kind enough to send it to me. Thanks. Also have a couple of pages stuck together in the EDC - pages 154 and 155 in that rice pudding recipe it was stuck together right on the amount of milk to use and I can't read it. Would someone be kind enough to tell me please....I must take more care when using the custard recipe not to spill anything on the page! :-*
-
Hi Anniemac.. It's 750 g of milk
-
Hello Anniemac, you will see a link to this recipe - just click on the underlined words Spanish Rice Pudding in my posting.
-
Thanks ladies. I actually made this recipe tonight but wasn't aware this was the recipe you were initially talking about Judy. I cut back on the sugar and still I found it too sweet for my tastes and also cooked it longer as the rice still wasn't cooked through, but otherwise it was delicious. It also made an awful lot and as there are only two of us empty nesters here now we are going to be eating it for weeks! I will also fix my EDC cookbook recipe. Thanks again. :-))
-
I have quite a lot of milk that I have to use up as it's about to expire so I'm thinking of giving this a go. Does anyone know if I can use basmati rice as I have no short grain rice?
Or is there another rice pudding recipe that is better than this than someone can share with me?
-
Tasty this is the recipe I always make. I have made it with basmati too and it is fine. Probably not quite as creamy but still lovely.
-
I make this with any rice i have. Yesterday it was jasmin, cp loves it for afternoon tea :)
Excess milk I make edc bechamel sauce & freeze it.
H :)
-
Thanks ladies. I did end up making this with the basmati rice I had (rather than shortgrain) and I really like how it turend out. I'm surprised how it thickens up and how few ingredients it needs. My toddler wasn't as keen on it as the one my mum makes using the traditional method.
It is really nice when warm but haven't tried it cold yet.

I just add more milk and reheat my rice puddings Tasty as I prefer them warm. All rice puddings thicken once cold, just like pasta does.
-
We reheat with added milk too. :)
-
We eat slices of it cold. Especially DH. He loves rice pudding.
