I made this Pipe loaf in a special Pipe Loaf tin, using the 'no fuss" recipe.
-
That it fabulous! I must add a pipe loaf tin to my growing wish list. ;D
-
My Mum use to buy this shaped loaf from the baker and she called it a "Milk Loaf"We use to eat it at teatime on Sundays with jam and clotted cream. :-))
-
looks first-class
Looking on eBay for a Pipe tin today. Where did you get yours from?
ciao
-
Chookie, I used to buy a loaf like that many years ago and it had the lines on the crust from the tin which made it so easy to cut. I love it, it is the first time I've ever seen a home baked one. Looks like your tin has been around for a while, can you still buy them?
-
Chookie that looks great. I love this shape bread when making doorstops for some reason. (thickly sliced bread topped with ham, cheese and tomato or whatever and melted under the grill). :D
-
I have had the tin for some time, about 10 years. I bought it at a 'field day', at Elmore in Victoria. haven't seen them any where else. it is a convienient size slice of bread but a b..... To cook, as you don't know what is going on inside the tin. I have worked out a formula now so if anyone gets a tin I can share a few tricks. bakers delight sell pipe loaves and they are quite expensive.
-
Hi Chookie,
Reading your post and thinking I have one of those tins. A bit more reading - I could have sold you that tin. I worked at that "field day" at Elmore for years selling bread mixes and equipment. What a small world. I will ask my friend where she used to source the tins.

shiraz49,you may well have sold me this tin . the lady was really helpful and one of the few people who knew something about bread making. She was able to tell me that 500g. Of flour would make the right amount to fill the tin. so the "no fuss" recipe suits perfectly. It would be very handy to know where to purchase a pipe loaf tin, especially if it is the same as it is of heavy construction and well made, also I only have to spray with Canola oil and the bread doesn't stick.
-
How exciting Chookie. I can remember as a kid when we got a new baker into town in the 50's he made 'pipe' loaves. We were all so excited as all we had seen up until then was the normal loaf and ½ loaf. It brings back lots of memories of bread, fig jam and cream from the cow all lumpy and delicious.
-
What is really interesting is that this loaf, 'cooked under pressure" produces a very fine crumb, or fine texture.
-
brings back memories of having to leave the beach early at Moore River just so we could line up in the bread queue...yum, then they would wrap it up in fine tissue paper and it would be eaten up at lunch time

Used my Milk Loaf tin to make the No Fuss recipe. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4253.0)Went a bit overboard with the sesame seeds :D :D

Looks wonderful CC.
I have to confess I just had to have this bread tin 3(?) years ago when everyone was buying it. Excitedly ordered it, was so happy when it arrived but I haven't used it once! I may have to dig it out and use it soon.
-
Katie, where did you get the tim from? I'm not having much luck finding one for sale
-
I know they were hard to get at the time ES, I think mine came from the UK but it can be known as a tank loaf tin or a pipe loaf tin.
Here's a link to a Victorian supplier, yikes they aren't cheap.

Thanks Judy. That was the only single one I could find, but it's a bit too pricy for me.. I think I'll keep looking for one in a secondhand store
-
Sue, I bought it from eBay from a link that the girls posted at the time. It came from a UK kitchen shop. I'm sure it didn't cost as much as that one.
-
Finally used my tin today!

Good one Uni. I find that the Pipe tin compresses the loaf and you get a fine textured crumb.
