Hi Folks,
It's your AWOL cookbook maker here, slinking back in to the forum, in need of some quick advice.
Due to an incident that shall remain nameless, we are in need of new blades definitely, a new lid probably, and maybe could get by without, but possibly a new bowl as well.
The Thermo would work with just new blades, so that is our immediate concern. As we've been using it 3 or 4 times a day since we got the thing early last year, we're now lost without it, but as of 20 minutes ago, it's now out of action. We called our consultant, but got no answer, so I fear she is away on school holidays.
So, what's the quickest way to get a new set of blades? can you get the blades on their own? I saw a post from 20089 saying a full top set is $395. If you can get the blades on their own, does anyone know the current price? If not, is the full set still $395?
Thanks. Russell.

Russell I suspect someone may have dropped it. My adult DD dropped my bowl and bent the lip a tiny bit and it was ghastly to use, so I replaced the whole bowl, blades etc. She did a lot of muttering about it being a crap machine if one soft drop ruined it.
I have a price list that was given to me, it may be a bit old.
Blades only $135
Bowl, blades, base and lid and MC $345
My suggestion would be to ring HO and order what you want. I should imagine they would send it fairly quickly. I guess freight would be added to. Or email them.
Good luck.

Russel in the EDC there is a toll free number I am not sure what it is though as I am out. Call and you can buy over the phone and they can express post it to you. The other option is finding out if there is anyone on here near you as they may have any of these in stock.
Current prices are.......
The blade is $150, lid and seal is $45 bowl $180. Bowl blade lid seal MC basket butterfly and base is $395

Thanks for the current prices Meagan, I'll try and find that Toll-free number. I guess postage for the whole set would probably run around $30 for that lot.
Cookie, something a lot worse than just a dropped unit I'm afraid. Someone was watching over us as a small cut to the finger was the only result and not a serious injury (or worse). I will explain what happened as some more advice on what we should replace would be useful.
Someone (not me) stuck a large Wiltshire sharp knife in through the lid while it was running. As you can expect, "Knife meets Blade" is not a happy result. Two of the Thermo blades have chunks out of them, the lid has a 1-2cm cut through the side of the inside hole, and about 1/3 of the way up the bowl, on the outside, is a small outdent I assume where the point of the knife whacked into the inside after the blades hit it.
The knife handle (plastic) shatter, but the knife blade is surprisingly still intact, with just a few nicks in it, not that it's any use without a blade now anyway.
So the Thermo blade is now useless.
The lid is probably OK to use, since it was a clean cut and still seems operational. Any reason it would be no good?
The bowl seems fine except for the outdent, but do you think that may have damaged the integrity of the bowl?
As I said, we're very lucky the knife blade didn't fly out and cause a serious injury. The question just remains - replace the thermo blade only, or just be done and change the whole lot to be on the safe side?
Thanks. Russell.

OMG, very lucky indeed! I must admit to being ultra paranoid if anyone wants to use my "baby" without me in attendance! I just couldnt stand anything happening to it as i think i would be totally lost. I use it normally at least 2-3 times daily.
Russell, my condolences on the death of your beloved TM bowl etc and i hope you get it sorted ASAP!
Personally i think i'd get the whole lot for $395 and be done with it!
Good luck

Toll free number is 1800 004 838 - write it down everyone, you may need it one day. I have it in my telephone index.
Sounds a dreadful, costly accident Russell, bummer :'( :'( I would certainly replace the whole bowl etc then perhaps try the old bowl and lid with the blades from the new set and if everything seems OK, further down the track get yourself another set of blades and you will have 2 complete sets that work. You can probably glue the lid back together to strengthen it. One thing is for sure, that will be the last time a knife goes down through the hole - we learn from our mistakes.

Ouch! Scary! Lucky there was no human damage.
I'd replace the lot I think. Would the lid not leak? And agree with JD if the rest works then you could get new blades and have a second bowl, even if the lid leaked it would be fine for dough and stuff.
-
I thought someone had left the spoon inside the bowl, but your scenario is much worse and i think a cut finger is getting off extremely lightly. bowls/blades/lids are replacable, but body parts aren't.
-
I would think that the lid would leak, we all know it is only the smallest hole in the lid seal that makes it throw liquid EVERYWHERE.
I agree with JD - buy the set and then work out from there what you can salvage and use.
You might even end up with the damaged bowl only needing new blades for it to be a "dry" bowl - one where you mill etc in. There are a couple of us around that have one of those :-)) :-))
So very glad that everyone is ok and only damage to the bowl set.
-
Russell I agree-buy the lot.
If your bowl only has a dent in the body of it I'd say it may well be ok. My rim was dented out of shape.
I'm so glad no human was seriously injured. Things could have been very nasty. Hope you can get your replacements very soon.

Thanks all.
We heard back from our local consultant, but she has no spares, so it's order from the company it seems.
I don't think the lid would leak, it's a clean cut vertically through the inner ring, so apart from the aesthetic look of it, it should still be 100% functional. The gap around the MC leaks more than this cut will.
Despite the fact that it's probably just the blades we need, I think we will get the lot, and as you all say, have spares.
Now we just have to go back to the "old ways" of cooking until the new gear arrives :(
Russell.

*gulp* *sigh* what more can I say, except I feel for you - oh and HO are pretty prompt with dispatching. Thank goodness it is Monday and not Friday. You should have it in a couple of days :)

Just wondering whether you could claim on insurance at all. I'm pretty sure we could with our policy. They cover us when my husband leaves the freezer door open and all the food defrosts so I'd give it a go. Don't throw anything out as you might need to take photos etc for them. Worth a shot ! I should point out though they only usually cover direct family members within the household. ie if a friend did it they may not cover, if you get my drift.
-
Well given they wouldn't cover out solar hot water system when the pipes froze & busted, I doubt very much they've cover sticking a knife is a whizzing blender.
-
Wowee Russell glad everyone is ok!! Did you manage to get in touch with HO are they sending it express??
-
Thanks Meagan,
Got an order placed with HO, but as all roads into & out of our place & Warwick have been cut off by the floods, we haven't had mail for 2 days. The water is subsiding here, but given everything probably comes through Brisbane or Toowoomba, I'm not sure when we might see mail again.
-
Oh...feel very sorry for you!!! without TM is really really bad :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Goodness I hope you are dry and safe there Russell and that your new bowl and blade arrives soon.
-
Hi think my MC has gone off with the rubbish collection. Anyone know cost of replacement?
Thanks
-
What a pain!!! MC is $15 but speak to your consultant you may be able to borrow one in the meantime from her/ him
-
Thanks so much for that!

Until you receive a replacement BS1960, just place a mug or small bowl over the hole. I often misplace mine and just grab anything to cover the hole as a temporary measure.
