Title: Me & my Spinderella
Post by: spinderella on December 14, 2010, 12:58:09 am
Hello!  I am the proud owner (aren't we all?) of a new Thermomix.  We have named her Spinderella.  I am her lovely step-mother & her two little step-sisters love throwing stuff in her & watching her work her magic in the kitchen.  If only she could sweep...

We are located in Adelaide.  I don't love cooking, but I have a fantastic husband who does.  However I think Spinderella may change my feelings about cooking and so may all of you because I've been browsing the recipes here & wow! I want to cook!  Thanks for the inspiration so far.  Looking forward to more.  ;)

Welcome Spinderella.  What a cute name. Wow, you are lucky to have a husband who likes to cook. Mine will but he doesn't and I hate cleaning his mess. He doesn't notice the spills etc on the floor. :'(

Hi Spinderella, welcome to the forum.  What part of Adelaide are you from?  Lucky you having a willing DH in the kitchen but I am sure you will soon enjoy cooking yourself now that you have the TMX. It has managed to work it's magic on less than enthusiastic cooks before  ;) ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum Spinderella and the amazing world of the TMX.  I am with cookie in her comments - lucky you - (a) a husband who likes to cook and (b) hopefully clean up the mess - my DH has a boy look (for all those members who are attempting to make sense of my comment - the look you have when you are not looking), when he says that all is clean and there is nothing more to do.
Cheers - Robyn   :)  :)

Haha! We say in my household to go and have a 'mum' look, as my DD is worse at finding things than my DS (well maybe about the same, although both are sooo much better than DH ;D)

Welcome to the forum Spinderella -enjoy life with your TMX!

Thanks for the welcomes.  Judy I see you're in Adelaide too.  We're up in the hills on a small property.  Where are you?

I planted out a lot of new fruit trees this year so I'm looking forward to the abundance of fruit in the next year or two.  I now have about 40 fruiting plants that will give us fruit from November to June.  We try to grow as much of our own food as possible (although most of the vegie patch is fallow this season) so Spinderella will come in very handy with helping me preserve it all.

I'm also thrilled to see there's a section on non-food recipes.  We try to live as chemical free as possible, so I'll be visiting that part of the forum a fair bit.

Right now researching the jam threads.  I made strawberry jam but it's more like strawberry sauce.  The children are shelling peanuts to make peanut paste & I've got a kilo of apricots & white fleshed plums ready for jamming too.  Guess what we're giving family for Christmas?  ;)

Hi,

Don't know if this is any help to anyone but most of the strawberry jam recipes I've seen say to warm the sugar in the oven first.  I've made two batches of jam using the method below:
500g hulled and halved strawberries
500g jam sugar (csr brand)

Heat the sugar on 10 minutes, 80, speed 1
Add strawberries and cook 35 minutes, 100, speed 1
Check for jelling on a cold saucer
Bottle

Have a great day
Stacey

I'm at North Haven, further on from Port Adelaide Spinderella - long way from the hills.  Lucky you having some fruit trees, will you have to fight with the birds to get to the fruit first though? Good luck with the jam making.
