will I regret it. I know it is probably silly asking this on a forum where people are so passionate about it but I am so worried about buyers remorse, it is such a lot of money. I said to myself I wouldn't buy one until I saved the money for it, no going into debt for it but now that I have i am not sure I should go through with the actual purchase.
I have three kids, a husband I know that I will use it but did anyone else have these thoughts beforehand?
-
are you crazy??! lol ;D ;D ;D
-
No regrets whatsoever krit - I used mine 6 times today and wouldn't have made any of those things if I didn't have him.
-
You won't regret it and if you don't love it you will be able to sell it really easily for pretty close to what you paid for it ;)
-
I think most people are hesitant before they buy anything expensive but I think by just reading the posts on the forum you can tell it would benefit your family.
-
Have already made baf65 creamy chicken and vegetables as well as custard tonight and hardly had to lift a finger. I know we are all converts by the process of having bought a Thermomix but how could you not love something that cooks so effortlessly and allowed me to spend more time with my kids tonight instead of in front of a stove???
-
For me, and I have young children, it was worth it for the safety aspect as in I would much prefer to use the TMX than the cooktop. The fact that the lid locks and it locks into the base, it really can't be tipped as easily as a saucepan on the stove, so it just makes cooking so much safer. It's amazing too how much excitement the kids get out of seeing what's cooked in there. My 2yo comes up to me and says "I see, I see" sooo cute. Our other two boys love seeing what we can make in there. Honestly, I think you'll love it, and this forum will certainly see to it that you do use it and get value out of it. And of course, don't forget all the preservatives you can reduce or even eliminate.
I had a food processor before having a TMX and if I was doing something I would sometimes think oh I should get the food processor out for this but then always thought what a pain in the butt it was to clean, too many sharp blades etc so I just didn't bother. I use the TMX all the time, it's so simple to clean most of the time. The trick as these ladies will tell you is to have it on the bench where you will use it. Oh and my husband uses it too, he loves it as well.
All in all you need to make the right decision of course for you, but I personally don't think you would regret it, especially with kids. Good luck.

The best money I have ever spent.

I'm not clear what you think you might regret? Noone can make you use something if you don't want to! The fact that your hubbie might use it would just make me rush out & get it if I was in your shoes!!! I think it depends upon how you cook now & what issue the Thermomix is the solution to. What was it that you got excited about when you saw it & decided to save up for it? Is that thought still in your mind? It's such a personal decision for everyone. In my household it's meant I cook again. That simple. We hardly ever have take away because everything we do is so much nicer than what we can pick up in no less time from local restaurants.
So, whats it going to give you? Is it more time? Better health? Lower food bills? Only you know the answer to that. You are right that we are a biased community so we're unlikely to talk you out of one if you are half way over the line. Maybe you need to do a pro's & con's list???!!!! Have a think about a typical weeks cooking/eating & find the equivalent recipes here & then you'll have a better idea of the time/money differences owning one would make.
Best of luck with your decision. I, like many others here, couldn't imagine life without my Thermomix any more.

I just love mine!!!!! I work 40 plus hours a week and still use mine at least 3 times a day, last Thursday night I got home at about 8.30 and my teenage daughter(who should have dinner ready for me) said whats for tea I feel like indian.
I felt like a shower a glass of wine and toast.
Threw everything (no packet crap) in TM and butter chicken was served would have waited for takeaway longer and had more dishes because it all comes in plastic containers and I'd have to wash them. It doesn't get better then that - even with my own Garam masala.
I'm hungry thinking about it.
P.S you never see them for sale second hand!!!!!
-
Hey Debbiebillg, my 2 1/2 year old says "I see, I see?" too!! I'm always having to take off the jug to show her what's inside...LOL!! My kids just love it. Every time I make something they want to know if Thermie did it....and I say...."of course!!!"
-
My nearly 2 yr old says 'look look look' and I have to show him and his older brother then he follows up with 'taste??' I feel like I am doing demos at home!
-
krit you are just being silly. Just do it. If you hate it then offer it for sale on the forum and see how many takers you get?

I can understand your concern - it is a LOT of money for a "kitchen appliance". I really worried that I wouldn't use mine enough to be worth the money, but I took a deep breath and jumped in, thinking I could always sell it on ebay if I wasn't using it enough. Now that we've had it a couple of months I find I use it ALL the time. It is a very very rare day when it doesn't get used. I recently had mine break (not a manufacturing problem, more a teenager bumping it on the bench and having it drop on the floor & having it bend in the wrong way), so we've been without it for 5 days now and I'm really finding it a lot more work to do things (and I'm cheesed off it came right in the middle of all my Christmas goodie making - but it will be good for me to have a break from that).
I don't think you'll regret it & remember you can always sell it second hand if you aren't using it in a few months time (they retain their value really well because people generally don't sell them, but hold on to them).
I REALLY wish I'd had it when my kids were small - it would have made things a lot easier. We couldn't afford to buy baby food, so made all their food - which has had good flow on effects as they really love home made stuff now, and really don't enjoy anything "packaged".
Best of luck
Cheers
p.s. I'm getting a replacement bowl soon from my consultants. They have been lovely all the way through & I've really enjoyed having their support. :D

I'm the last person who should respond to this thread as I'm a complete kitchen gadget queen! But, that being true, I've also used a lot of them. I have a lot of high end kitchen appliances and have now added to that with the Thermomix and I really don't think you will regret your purchase.
I've never yet met a motor this strong. It seems to me that the blades of the unit are not actually super sharp (which is no bad thing) but the motor really has some brute force ;D. I love cooking and baking and the Thermomix has given me more avenues to explore and brought into my daily repertoire things that are just too time consuming to do with small children (mine are almost 9, 6 and 2 1/2). All mine love to watch and to feed the machine (they're all boys).
As an aside my boys also really love home made food, my oldest especially begs for home made bread and they're favourite meal is home made pizza

Thought I might just add my 2 cents worth in here, as I was very hesitant.. I am a bit of a gadget queen and so am conscious of 'am I doing it again? Buying something that I will not use?' I have had my 'Dobbie' for about 2 months now and I don't regret it at all... I use it every day, at least once, usually more times and I love to be able to whip up some more home made mayo in 5 mins and 'oh no, we are out of peanut butter' so make a batch in about 30 seconds... I LOVE the LACK of additives and preservatives, this machine is the perfect kitchen companion. My 7 yr old son says 'Mummy, if you are making ANYTHING in Dobbie you have to tell me so I can help'... my 7 yr old and 10 yr old will soon be cooking the entire meal themselves and between the thermomix and Masterchef I have two very excited new cooks in my house... As someone has already pointed out, if you don't use it you can sell it and get most of your money back so really you don't have anything to lose... Just make the most of this Forum and buy some of the books, so that you CAN get the most out of your new purchase.. If you like Indian the Indian book is fabulous, I think my chicken Tikka is just as good as I get in my favourite indian restaurant and it is really easy... There are sometimes a lot of ingredients but because you can just add one, hit the scales and add the next, it is really quick and easy... I say go for it....

I can understand exactly how you feel. I saw the machine in action in August or September and DH said we had to have one. It wasn't at a demo. I thought about it for a long time as being retired I felt it was a lot of money to spend. Then in November the lady that had shown me hers rang and stirred me up. I then went ahead with the purchase. Even for about 2 weeks after buying the machine I kept thinking I have to use this-it cost so much. By then I was hooked. I had discovered this forum just before it was delivered and still love it 2 years later.
It's sat fairly idle for a couple of days as I have been busy. It will make up for it as soon as I'm home for a few days.
I don't think you will regret the decision if you buy.
-
Thank you for all your reassurance. I rang my consultant and she is coming around tommorow so i can fill out an order form. I will just have to make sure I use it now. My friend who has one just cooked me custard and I think the custard took me over the edge, very yummy!!
-
I will just have to make sure I use it now.
Congrats Krit! You know....you don't "have" to use it each day to justify the cost ;) You know it's there, and it will do so many dishes with ease......when you want it to, guilt free.
Have a good read through this forum, and you will find so much inspiration 8)
-
well krit, I barely ever cook the normal way now. much quicker, and less washing up to do, and a much healthier way of cooking no matter what your dietary requirements are.
-
I am sure you will use it all the time and it will revolutionise the way you cook.
But it might seem expensive but how often do you use your stove top or your oven and how much did they cost?
I use my tmx several times a day, the others a couple of times a week - so I know which one would be the best value for money in that way.
-
You won't regret it. I probably don't use mine anywhere near as much as other people on this forum, but I still feel it was worth every cent! The custard is probably one of my favourite things, and its sooo easy to make too. I just made the banana bread last night, and in the space of 5minutes, the bread was in the oven and the washing up all done!! Now how good is that!
Even if you dont want to use it every day for whole meals, it can be all the simple things that save you time, like chopping up ingredients, just making some mashed potatoes, or doing a dip before people come over. I believe that the flavours are much better, especially when you make your own curry pastes, spice mixes, stock concentrates etc. Heaps better than the store bought ones, you will never go back to them!!!
-
Krit I also perfectly understand your hesitance. Much better to have pre purchase dissonance than post purchase! I was all revved up to get mine "by the time I turned 40", until the money magically found its way to us (Thanks again, Mr Rudd!) about 12 months after first seeing it (and more than 4 years before the big 4-0) - then I spent two weeks convincing myself all over again. Another girlfriend was exactly the same and she is loving hers now too!
At least you know you have made a serious, considered decision. I think half of my problem was everyone else who didn't have a TMX, and frankly didn't know what they can do either, telling me I was mad to spend that much, or asking if it washed the car and put the kids to bed too? Hah, I have a husband for those things!
Congratulations!
Kerryn

I believe you go with your 1st thought. Brought mine a few weeks ago has made cooking (which I enjoy ) even better.
People have had their opinons mainly MIL but who cares...not me!!!
PS we are the crazy family who also just spent $2300 saving our 13 week old pup after garage door closed on her...people though we were mad too!! So all our extra Christmas wages will go to paying down creditcards!!!

The thing I realised when I was having doubts was that in the scheme of major kitchen appliances it is not actually that expensive. Compare to your oven or stove top and how much you use them, for something I use the most in my kitchen it is well worth the money.
Until you use it it's hard to understand how often you'll use, how much time and effort it can save, and how easy it makes things.
I use mine a lot and for most of our main meals, but even if I didn't and used it for basics, chopping, custards etc it would still be a major kitchen appliance and one worth the money.
For some people I'm sure it wouldn't' be worth it, same as for me a top of the range kitchen aid isn't, I'm not much of a baker, we just don't do a lot of sweet things but I don't think friends who've spent $850 on one of those mad. They just want the tools that make their life easier.
-
I agree with all the above post but what I love more than anything about the little wonder is the freedom that it gives you in the kitchen, no more slaving over a stove or having a watched pot - with the exception of sugar coated almonds!!!!!! I hope that you quickly fell the same way as many on this forum. Cheers - Robyn :) :)

I don't use mine as much as most on this forum do, but that is mainly because I am too lazy to convert my "regular" recipes to the TMX and there are some things that simply need a different appliance to turn out the way I want.
I'm also a "gadget queen" and tend to "collect" interesting appliances and kitchen stuff and don't always use them but like to have them "just in case." Goodness, I have one of the superautomatic espresso machines that was a lot more costly than the TM31 and I rarely use it. I have friends who are coffee fanatics and like to use it when they visit so I got one. I also have a wood-fired bread oven that gets used only once or twice a year. When I first had it built, I used it a lot but having to fire it up many hours before I was going to be baking bread, pizza, or whatever, got to be a pain so I used it less and less. I could have bought a compact car for what that cost.
There are some tasks at which the TM31 excels and if I use it for nothing but those, it will be worth it to me. However, I love experimenting with it to see the various things it can do. Yesterday I used it to grind toasted almonds to go into bread dough and the ten seconds it took for that task was marvelous and with no effort on my part.
I live alone but I do entertain often and it has been a boon for those times when someone drops in unannounced.
I live in the U.S. where the machine is not demonstrated or sold directly. I had to find a vendor in Canada who ships to the U.S. and bought mine only knowing about it from people on another forum who were using it and seeing a couple of chefs on food shows using it. I'm not sorry I did. I also know that if I decide I don't want it, I can sell it for what I paid for it, anytime I wish. I can't say that for other "impulse" purchases.
