Title: How excitement!!
Post by: JuJu on October 28, 2010, 12:23:14 pm
Hi everyone

I ordered my TMX today and it arrives at 7pm on Saturday. Not that I'm counting down or anything!!

I went to a friend's demo about 8 weeks ago and before I went, I told her I didn't want one but just wanted to see what all the hype was about...and here I am, soon to be owner and very possibly demonstrator as well!!

I've been reading the forums since the demo and doing some 'research' before I bought one and now I feel like I can finally contribute to them!

I stumbled across Cindy O'Meara through the TMX newsletter and realised I'd been looking for a book like hers for about 5 years!! I have a 15 month old son and just want to make sure that we as a family don't eat too much of this artificial stuff that big companies are putting in our food.  >:( TMX is going to make life easier I hope. Especially as I'm due back at work next year!!

I look forward to learning lots more from this forum and testing it all out on my new machine.  ;D

Roll on Saturday night!

PS I'm in Perth

Jules

Hey Jules, I'm so excited I could scream! Mines being delivered tomorrow 11.30!!!
I have wanted one for years and now thanks to my wonderful parents I'm getting
my own!! I borrowed mums one for about 2 months and got so much use out of it!
My kids are hanging for me to make their boost juices again so I think that will be first!
Yay yay yay roll on tomorrow! You have fun with yours on the weekend!

Thanks for the welcome everyone

Julia, I read the whole thread about your TMX and how you borrowed your parents' one and then they bought you one!! How lovely!!! Hubby is out this evening so I'm surfing the forums and blogs to see what to cook first.......there's too much to choose from!! I asked my husband what I should make first and he said cocktails!! Typical!!

Have a great weekend with your TMX. Have you got a name for yours? Mine is going to be called Theo....unless it doesnt look like a Theo, then I'll have to think of something else  ;)

Congratulations girls. It's the best feeling in the world to own a Thermomix. Your whole lifestyle can change for the better. Wait till you start seeing the change in your grocery bill. OMG!!!  I've done 3 weekly shops since I got mine and I have reduced my bill more and more every week.  Even stopped doing the extra visits to the shops in between the full shop. Cant even begin to calculate the savings.

Where in Perth are you JuJu? Did you know there's a Perth get together tomorrow on the South Perth foreshore?

Hi Jodi

Yes I did know about the get together as I've been reading the forum for a while now!! I'm just in Manning so I'm not even 10 mins away. I'm meeting my mum at Carousel at 11ish but have been contemplating coming along. Will see how quickly we get organised in the morning and I might make it. Its near the fenced in playground isnt it? Might pop my head in if I can find you guys.

Would be great if you could pop in. Even if it's only for a short visit.  I can't stay too long myself. Got a million things to do but I'm sure I'll get the important stuff done.

Hope you can make it.

Wooohooooo!! Delivery went well.

We made pumpkin soup together which hubby and I had for dinner with a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. He wanted to know how the TMX was going to make a toasted sandwich! Mr Skeptic!! :-\

After dinner I caught him reading the book and removing the lid!!!!! Mr Intrigued...

We had 10 mins between the end of one program and the start of another we wanted to watch so he jumped up and got all the ingredients ready to make Pina Coladas and read the recipe out to me. They were delicious. After the show (through which I was reading the EDC!! I have trouble following Spooks (UK spy drama) at the best of times so last night was a write off!!) he asked me to show him how to clean it!!! Mr Domestic?  ???

This morning he made himself a cappucino/latte and announced that he is going to make Beef Stroganoff and mash for dinner this evening stressing that he wants to do it by himself!! Mr Enthusiastic!! ;D

So now I have to go out and get the missing ingredients for him! Mr Slave Driver!! :-))

Have just been reading about TMX mash on here and noticed some people aren't happy with it. Will let you know how hubby does!!

If we cook the mash in the TMX bowl, can we steam some veges in the Varoma at the same time or do we need to adjust the temp or amount of liquid? Hope someone can help.....

So that's the journey thus far...oh and I made the pink grapefruit and pineapple Boost Juice this morn minus the ginger and a whole lot less sugar. I was impressed with that. We are hosting Christmas this year so I'm already getting ideas for refreshments  ;)

Must go and make some biscuits for Noah now

Thanks for eveyone's good wishes

J xx

:D :D :D :D Sounds like DH is having fun JuJu - let him go, it will give you a break.  As far as steaming vegies whilst cooking potatoes for mash - I put the diced potatoes in the steaming basket over boiling water, place the vegies in the varoma dish and/or tray and cook on Varoma temp for around 15-20 minutes. When potatoes are well cooked, simply empty out the water, put the potatoes into the bowl with the butterfly, add butter and milk (only a little to start with then check for consistency and add more if you want it fluffier), turn to speed 4, no higher when using the butterfly attachment.  Try beating for 10 seconds then check and add more time and liquid if necessary.

Thanks JD. DH wants to do the "chuck it all in the bowl" version so I guess I'll let him do that tonight and I'll try the steamer basket version next time. Might have to do veges separately :(

You're going great guns for a beginner!

We love the beef stroganoff! Yummo.  I used brandy in mine. scrumptious.

I'm yet to try the cappuccino/latte but we thought we might give the hot chocolate a go tonight.

I had a go at making strawberry jam today (it turned out a bit runnier than I thought it was meant to) It will go alright in milkshakes though or topping for icecream.  :P

I also had a crack at the buttermilk scones.  That was an experience.  :-)) Turned out beautiful though.

Experimenting is half the fun.

xoxo

Update :
Strog turned out well but I thought it could have been a bit thicker. Tasted good though and my little man loved it! Mash turned out well for us too. I think it could have done with a bit less pureeing but DH liked it and had seconds and is very excited to be having it for lunch tomorrow as well. He also made lemonade this avo and I had to wrench Theo from his fingers to make dessert.

I wanted to make the lemon coconut steamed puddings from the Varoma demo but couldnt find the recipe on the forum. Thankfully I found one cookie posted and it was deeelicious!! Thanks cookie :) Finally sat down at 8:20 this evening while Theo and Varoma did their thing and I have just devoured half a pudding as we are so full from all the food we've eate today!!

Also made cinnamon scrolls which I usually do in the breadmaker. Dough was super sticky and I had to remove the blades which was scary to do for the first time since they were covered in bread dough/gloop!! They turned out well though and have just come out of the oven.

I hope every day isnt going to be like this. I'm knackered!! DH just said "I thought TMX was meant to save us time, not have us
slaving in the kitchen all day!"

It was worth it though. Can't wait to get my Indian cookbook :)

Hi Juju sounds like you are having fun!!
I agree with the grapefruit boost juice it is yummo. I sometimes add strawberries too. I can get away with putting the tiniest amount of ginger in. The Indian cookbook is really nice. I did the cashew chicken tonight. It was delicious.
I think when you first get your TM you tend to want to cook everything at once.
Have you managed to prise it away from your Hubby yet?
Have fun and enjoy.

Julia

Glad you and your DH are going so well the beef strog is also good with chicken and I use a kilo of meat or chicken, I also often cook it the day before and it thickens up nicely and you have a meal already prepared.

JuJu it sounds like you (well your DH) are having great fun. He has to go to work today so I hope you get a turn. Noah will be enjoying all the goodies. Glad you enjoyed the steamed pudding. Did you make custard to go with it?

Jodi, if your jam is thin, take the MC out, put the basket over the hole and turn the temperature up to Varoma for a while.  Keep an eye on it though. I make the starwberry jam from here and it is lovely. I've copied it to here for you.
Hi,

Don't know if this is any help to anyone but most of the strawberry jam recipes I've seen say to warm the sugar in the oven first.  I've made two batches of jam using the method below:
500g hulled and halved strawberries
500g jam sugar (csr brand)

Heat the sugar on 10 minutes, 80, speed 1
Add strawberries and cook 35 minutes, 100, speed 1
Check for jelling on a cold saucer
Bottle

Have a great day
Stacey

Thanks for the jam tips.  I even thought about boiling the jars in a pot on the stove for a while to see if that thickens them up at all.  At the end of the day, we've got some wicked strawberry topping for ice cream!  ;D

Ok. So the latest update in the adventures of Juju and Theo are this:

Yesterday afternoon I got a call from the GL in my area and she said if I want to be a consultant the next training starts TOMORROW and the next one is not until end of Jan. As the training is during the day and I'll be back at work by the end of Jan, I've jumped in with both feet (remember I only got my machine on Sat night!) and start tomorrow. Then there are two more sessions next Mon and Thurs. She came over this morning and signed me up and now I'm all ready to learn. Bring it on!!!

Yesterday I boiled eggs, made risotto and custard. Today I have boiled eggs and feel like I should use it tonight but we have risotto left over and I just had the last of the stroganoff for lunch!! I have some strawberries in the fridge which dont look like they will make it much further so I'm going to attempt sorbet this avo when DH gets home.

Wish me luck with the training :)

How exciting!!!
You'll do fine with the training.  It's very intense but thorough and I think that's important considering what we are promoting.
Let us know how you go with your first training.
Are you sick of eating left overs yet? I'm farming mine out to my MIL now. ha ha

JuJu, you sound like you are having so much fun. I have to confess I don't use Ted as much as I have done - I tend to go in fits and spurts these days as time and the mood take me. Wish my DH was as enthusiastic as yours.
All the best with the training, I'm sure you will do well. Keep the entertaining posts going - love reading about your journey.

Wow! What a busy few days!! I did day one of training on Wed and havent had a chance to get on the computer for long enough to post anything. I'm a bit nervous about training on Monday as its a practical day and we all have to make something from the demo menu. I'm doing the bread so I've already made two loaves and will do one more tomorrow to practise.

I went to a cooking class on Thurs evening and was inspired to make dips. They did the basil pesto one from the EDC and a salmon and cream cheese one which was also very delicious. We are off to a BBQ tomorrow avo so I'm taking a loaf of freeform fresh bread and two freshly made dips to wow the masses...and hopefully field lots of questions as to how/where I got them from...hehe :)

My BF and her DH came over yesterday avo so my DH could demonstrate the ease of use of TMX to her DH before she buys one!! No conspiracy here!! It wasnt engineered to convince her DH as she is already buying one but just to make him feel included in the decision making process i think :) I also did boost juices for her miss 7 and miss 4 and they went down a treat!!

This morn I made yoghurt!!! When I tasted it after 8 hours it was quite tart so I'm not sure if it will stay that way, in which case I may have to stew some fruit to go with it!! I hope it gets better as I really love the idea of making my own yoghurt. I also managed to find unhomogenised milk in Coles which I used for my yoghurt. It had about an inch and a half of thick cream sitting on top. Seems strange to think that this is such a novelty for me and yet this is how milk should look, and DID look in dare I say "the olden days"!!!

So we've had Theo for a whole week now and I'm still cooking up a storm or several every day!! Now I just need to bite the bullet and book some demos.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend

J x

Hi J,
You are doing a fantastic job!  Good luck with the practical training on Monday.  It's easier than it seems and everyone is there to help you and coach you along the way. It wasn't nearly as daunting as I thought it would be.
I found the demo booking part the hardest of all but once you get a couple in place, it's not as hard.  I still haven't had my first demo yet.  This Friday will be my first. Scarey stuff.
Let me know how you go with the yoghurt.  I've looked at that recipe a few times and thought about making it.  I might pluck up the courage one day soon.  :)
Have fun at the BBQ, we're off to Kings Park tomorrow for a picnic so I was planning on taking along some home made bread, butter and all too yummy dips to tempt the masses! (Hopefully strike up some conversation) Shouldn't be too hard, my sister in law is going too and she is also a TM owner.
Enjoy your weekend!

JuJu you sound as they you are going really well. I'm sure you'll be fine tomorrow.
Jodi, hope your demonstration goes well on Friday. Your enthusiasm for the TMX will come across and it will be a winner.
There is quite an extensive post/s on making yoghurt. Some of us have success all the time (not me) and others some of the time.

Hope the BBQ went well Jodi. Thanks for the yoghurt info cookie. It was much nicer on Sunday morning, and then today it was even better!! Very thick and a bit lumpy as i had to tip it out of the thermos flask and into a container to store in the fridge but it's still delicious!!

Prac training was fine except I tipped a jug of water into the bread without weighing it. It turned out to bea good thing though as our GL told me to tip some out and then after it was combined she showed us how it was a bit dry and we added a bit more water. So now we will know what to do if we stuff it up again!!

Good luck with your first demo Jodi. I'll be thinking of you on Fri night. Looks like I have one next Wed night and then Saturday!! Only just got my kit today so I've practised the flip chart on DH and will subject my little man to it tomorrow.

I have my delivery demo tomorrow night so it will good to see that from a consultant point of view.

I'm off to read my FSA cookbook and additive alert!

Take care

J x
