Title: Hi everyone, I'm writing a Thermomix cookbook
Post by: DaniValent on October 16, 2010, 01:44:57 pm
Hello Forum folk,

Just wanted to say 'hi' and let everyone know that I've just started work on a Thermomix recipe book. I'm a Melbourne writer (including lots about food) and I've had my much-loved Thermomix for a few years now. The whole time I've been longing for a modern, stylish recipe book to go with it, the kind of gorgeous book that would sit nicely alongside my other fave cookbooks.

Now, with the support of a Melbourne publisher (Slattery Media) and with the blessing of the lovely folk at Thermomix Australia, I'm writing the cookbook that I've been waiting for.

The book will include original recipes from chefs and bloggers (I've already spoken to a few of you - hi Trissa, Thermomixer, Helene!) from around the world, adapted recipes from non-TM cookbooks plus some of my own recipes. There's going to be an iPhone/Pad app too.

Would love to share more about it with anyone who's interested. Let me know if you'd consider contributing a recipe (no $ I'm afraid but I'll make sure you get a book!)

I'm really excited... hope some of you out in TM land will be too!

happy cooking!

DaniV

Hi Dani, welcome to the forum. Well done, it's great to hear about your book.  I'm sure there are others out there capable of writing one too so maybe this will give them the inspiration they need.  You can never have too many TMX recipe books!  Guess you've checked out all the recipes here on the forum - I'm sure people would feel privileged if you decided to include their recipe in your book. Keep us informed so we can look out for it in bookshops.

DaniV, that is awesome that you are writing a book. Congratulations! Can't wait to get a copy of it.
My husband only said the other day, "I wonder if there's an iPad app? Wouldn't that be great" and there you have it. You have it in the making.  Fantastic.
I'm too new to the TM world to come up with a book worthy recipe but I wish you all the luck in the world. There are some amazing contributors on this forum.
Please keep us updated with your progress!
 ;D ;D ;D

Ohhh an iPad app makes me happy, I would like to see a book that includes a "whole meal" approach as in the main dish and the side dishes. As a working mum, being able to do everything at once is important to me. If you have ever seen the tupperware stack cooker recipe book, you will appreciate what I mean. Waiting  excitedly now

Welcome Dani

Have been busy in Sydney for the last week or more.  Spent too much time watching demos, eating & having fun.

Have the email to reply to, sorry.  Sent a Tweet to Geoff.

Hopefully we can get some people to put their hands up to contribute too.

Hi Dani,  as a cook book tragic, I love the idea of what you are doing.   This forum would be a wonderful resource.   Most of the recipes are well tested and you can gauge the popularity by the number of posts.  Also some of the photos are very professional,  have a look at JulieO's.  Good Luck.

Welcome Dani. You have delivered some very exciting news to us. I've often thought how lovely it would be to have a TMX book available on the shelves of book stores for everyone to see how amazing this machine is that we all love. As mentioned earlier when will it be available?

Hi Dani

Sounds awesome and I look forward to seeing it.   As an Android user (rather than iPhone) can I put in a plea for an Android app as well as the iPhone one,  please, please, pretty please.....

If you want anyone to be a recipe tester, I'll volunteer    :D :D

oooh can't wait to see the book. I love cook books, even more ones I'm likely to make lots of recipes from rather than just drool over.

(though funnily enough since getting a TMX I"m now trawling through other cookbooks for inspiration.

That is so funny - because my mac addicted husband asked the same thing and then promptly searched and found there is not as yet an iphone app.
Have just joined and am trying to figure out how to introduce myself  ??? I, unlike my husband am not computer literate (but I can cook ;)

Good luck with the book. I'm also a  Melbournite (passionately) and it is about time that someone from our food obsessed, dare  I say food capital of Australia produces a thermomix cookbook. I am also a total Mac addict so an iphone or iPad app would be perfect. I am writing this reply on my iPad as we speak! All the best with the recipes and I will definitely be lining up to buy your book. Given the growing number of people in Australia who own a thermomix, I think you're onto a winner. Good luck!

Hi Dani

Did Nic Poelaert have any good recipes for you that don't require foraging?

Cheers

Hi everyone,

It's great to see so much enthusiasm for a new book! Thanks for all the tips and the offers of help - I'll be in touch!

To answer some of your questions...

We're looking at having the book out mid-2011.

The app will be multi-platform - Android users won't be left out.

I'll be including heaps of variations, meal-building and menu-planning suggestions.

Thermomixer - Chef Nic Poelaart gave me some brilliant recipes and none of them required a walk along a creek or a vacant lot!

Feel free to message me if you want to know more at any stage or be added to a list of interested folk.

Happy cooking!

Dani

I'm sure you're doing this anyway, but I think it would be good to include 'hybrid' recipes ie ones that are great in the thermomix but also translate well to conventional cooking for those people who don't have one- it might also convince them to buy one when they realise the full potential of the TM. Also, even though all of us on the forum are total TM converts, we are still in the (growing) minority and if you target a cookbook specifically for TM owners, I would think that the market is still relatively small, especially when you consider the price of putting together a cookbook especially if you are doing one with colour photography etc. (My husband used to be a professional photographer so I know that glossy cookbooks are very expensive to produce). Sorry if I have said the wrong thing but if you are going to the trouble of making a thermomix cookbook (and I said in a previous post I will be lining up to buy one for sure) I hope you do make it appealing to as many people as possible.
Also, are you planning to do different cuisine types, kids style food, dinner party stuff??
GOOD LUCK AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINAL RESULT!!!

I was just in the bookstore the other day reading foodporn / cookbooks and thinking that there needed to be a Tmx one on the shelf! I would be honoured to be included - have a look at my (very new but there are some original recipes on there already!) blog and let me know if you'd like to use anything.

I found that there aren't many kangaroo recipes around which is a shame so I made one last night. It was delicious.
