Thankyou to everyone who has replied to my question re GF pizza dough. I have had my TM for a few weeks now and loving it. Can I ask another (dumb) question. I have made wonderful custard out of the EDC especially as I have a lemon tree and need to use up lemons at the moment. I am guilty though of having some opened packets of custard powder in the pantry and how can I use these up to make custard in the TM just to get rid of them or should I just give them the flick and be ashamed of admitting that I used to be a custard powder user????

I have posted a recipe for Lemon Curd which has custard powder in it. We like this one as it has no butter.

Merlin you are not an orphan, the only custard I could make prior to TMX was with custard powder,
If you don't have a "health" issue with using custard powder, then I would just replace the cornflour with custard powder in the recipe
or use it up in some biscuits, muffins etc if you don't want to give it the flick

The TMX doesn't get used in this one but it sounds nice http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2646.0

Not my memory CC, just know a little more about searching for things these days.

I'll have to get lessons. :-\

I have used custard powder in the past to give a nice flavour to butter or vanilla cakes also add a bit to waffle mix to make them extra tasty. I will admit that I haven’t used custard powder since I found out about all the nasty’s that are in it. I would be wary about giving it to children with all the additives.

In this instance Cookie I went to the home page & typed custard powder in the search space. Any postings with the word custard or powder will come up so you just browse through until you see the 2 words together which is what you are looking for. Give it a try and see what I mean. :-* :-*

if you type "Custard Powder" in inverted comma's then it will put the two words together.

Thanks everyone.
I currently use the Orgran brand custard powder and I also normally buy organic produce especially gluten free products from a fantastic gluten free health store we have in Ormond in Melbourne or Thomas Dux stores. I am normally very careful about additives etc especially when it comes to feeding the kids but I also abhor wasting food so that is why i wanted to see if I could use the custard powder for anything else. Also, as all of you coeliacs out there or those on a gluten free diet know, GF products are normally much more expensive than nonGF products so it seems a shame to waste it if I can use it for other things.
I actually tried the suggestion of replacing the cornflour with the custard powder (the same amount as in the recipe) and it worked out really well.

Oh apologies I thought it was regular custard powder. Definitely keep it :) MJ made a great sponge using custard powder too

Thanks Zan, that's handy to know.

Wow I never knew there was a nasties free Custard Powder! I would keep it for sure then!
Our Woolworths doesn’t carry much of anything these days- I think they are just interested in selling their own brand!
Thanks for the info CeeJay

I have to agree. My local Woolies has gone out of so many branded things. It makes me cross.

I have Coles and Woolies at my local shopping centre and they are as bad as each other. Half the time I end up shopping at both just to get what I want :-)) :-)) :-)) Drives me insane >:(

Not everyone likes egg custard. I made delicious custard last night using custard powder and milk. I followed the instructions on the pack for quantities and followed the method and timing from the EDC. Admittedly I did add another tablespoon of powder dissolved in a little milk and cooked for another 4 minutes when it wasn't thick enough. Kids cried because there wasn't enough for seconds!
Enjoy it!!!

I make custard for my youngest DS with custard powder too Mida Made as he is egg allergic. I will only use the Orgran brand though that has no nasties in it (and he also reacts badly to nasties with his skin). It's great to be able to make custard which ever way so easily and with no lumps!!! It is a winter staple filler in our house which ever way - depends on who is wanting it :D :D
