On another forum a member has asked about a knife carrier or knife roll with the product name Knifejack. Several years ago I saw this item and am pretty sure it was made in Australia.
It is apparently no longer sold in the US and I'm having some difficulty doing a search for Australian sources for similar items.
If anyone has any information about such a product, I would be very happy to hear about it so I can pass it on.
It was made of thicker leather than the ordinary type of knife carrier and looked something like (http://leather-worker.com/Chef-Knife-Roll.htmlthis one). The one I saw actually looked like the outer part had been made from saddle leather and it was stiff enough to hold its shape.

You need a clever person to make one for you Andie.

It's not for me but for another eGullet member.
I have a Friedr Dick Wales knife case for the times I need to haul my knives and other small implements around - when I am going to be cooking at the home of a friend.
On eGullet, yankeecheff posted an inquiry about a particular knife roll that he had seen some five years ago and recently decided to get one.
He couldn't find it on the internet and asked in an eGullet post about it. I also had seen one and as I recalled, it was made in Australia (I actually saw it in a store that was selling mostly Australian goods. (I bought a huge sheepskin rug for my bedroom plus some smaller items.)
I replied that I would post an inquiry here as it is easier for folks in OZ to do an online inquiry and actually get reasonable results. I am sometimes successful but only if I have a "key" work or phrase with which to begin.
So that's the story, so far.
