HI, I have only had my thermomix for 2 weeks now and am still getting used to it. Have already made many great things and enjoying how fast things are made. Just wondering if you have to "convert" everything for a receipe? Like do I have to convert my favourite cake receipe or can I just "throw" everything in bowl and mix it? Thanks

it depends on what your recipe says VH. If for example the recipe says to "add all ingredients together and beat for 3 minutes" as in a cake mix - you will just mix it on Speed 5 for 3 minutes. If it says to cream the butter and sugar, etc then I would recommend finding a similar recipe, so that you can use it as a guide to convert recipes. Then as you gain more confidence (and wisdom) you can fly by the seat of your pants ;D

VHannna, CP63's advice is excellent. The secret is , for whatever you are making, to find a similar recipe. There are plenty on the forum. It is great fun to convert.

I always find if you have to cream butter and sugar it is better to do it on a slower speed than the higher one. It seems to cream better and not go all over the place, therefore not needing scraping down.

Yes I find speed 3 for creaming and about 1-2 minutes is the best
There is a list of tips for converting recipes that riv_mum posted. I give it to all my new customers as I think it is really great :)

I found that once I had been using my Thermo for a while and I knew the functions, converting was much easier. I have put pencil marks all through my old faithful Woman’s Weekly Cookbook! I hardly use my electric beaters anymore because the Thermo is on the bench and always ready to go! Enjoy your converting Gin! :D

Best to look at similar recipes in the EDC book or the forum as a "template" and use the method to perfect your recipes.
