Hi!
I have just bought a Thermomix, and was thrilled when I found this site by accident, particularly as there few few recipe books for the machine here. Not only are there loads of exciting recipes and helpful hints on this site, but everyone seems so genuinely kind and welcoming to each other. I have just retired from teaching, and look forward to experimenting with my new cooking toy! I have made bucket loads of tomato and red pepper soup, using the one recipe given to me by the demonstrator, so it'll be super to expand my very limited repertoire!! My poor husband was beginning to dread those words, 'I think I'll make some soup in the TM!!' Now, I shall be able to use the many delicious recipes which have been posted. The one thing which did concern me about my one and only recipe is the amount of olive oil it suggested using, 50g seems a somewhat inordinate amount. Could I use less without it spoiling the end result? Best wishes from a very experienced UK red pepper and tomato soup maker!!!!!!!

Hi Jocelynne, welcome to the forum. You will love it here and check out our soup section - we have plenty to choose from which would give your poor DH a break from the red pepper and tomato soup (although I'm sure it is a beauty). It will be so easy to expand your repertoire when you check out our recipes. We have lots of teachers/retired teachers on this forum. Have fun with your machine and thanks for finding us.

Re the olive oil in your soup I often reduce the amount of oil in recipes and don't really notice the difference. I do the same with sugar.

Hi Jocelynne - welcome to the wonderful world of TMX and also to the best forum ever.... It's great to see another UK user on here - those Aussies are all over the place ;D ;D I'm not that far from you as I'm in Sheffield.
I usually use less olive oil than specified - I think you'll find that yo will become less of a slave to the recipes as you get used to your machine. It is very daunting at the beginning as it so different to anything else we've done but hopefully you'll get more gung ho as time goes on.
I find the recipes on here usually are too sweet for me, so I tend to start by putting in less sugar and then adding more if taste demands me to.
Enjoy get to know your new best friend in the kitchen...
