Hi everyone,
What a great place this forum is. I was out for dinner with friends a few months ago, and I became aware of this "Thermomix" word cropping up in the conversation. The explanation given was unsatisfactory, so I Googled it when I got home. Wasn't long before I was trawling through this forum and booking my own demonstration. I'm not a confident cook, and don't have the patience needed to slice, dice, stir, watch, measure etc, so the idea of throwing a bunch of ingredients into a pot and pushing a few buttons then turning out a beautiful meal has given my life a real lift! When "she" was delivered (I haven't thought of an appropriate name yet, it deserves some careful consideration), I just didn't know what to do first..cook something, read the book, make a shopping list, GAH! I've made lots of naan bread, several different curries(see query at end, but great flavour), perfect rice of course, and the divine Crunchie ice-cream slice. I live alone and have been playing with quantities, but have quickly become a favourite person to work with, as lunches with me are much yummer than what anyone else brings!!
I'd like to add that this forum helped me make the decision to buy, as I was confident that help with any issue would be at my fingertips should I need it.
I do have a question about substituting evaporated milk for coconut milk, mine always separates..any ideas? I like to use it as a lower-fat alternative. Thank you all for being here.!

I am new and my name for my thermomix is probably unoriginal but at the moment I am pretty sure it is called "lifesaver."   The first thing I did was went grocery shopping. I have not made the ice-creams yet due to my daughters allergies, might have to try after she goes to bed.  Do you have the indian cookbook? Is this where you get your naan bread recipe from?  Not sure about the coconut milk, I always use coconut as opposed to anything with dairy and have not found a problem yet. Good luck with your new found lunch buddies ;)

My very generous consultant Elizabeth has lent me her Indian book and I used that recipe. I did a search on this forum just now for Naan with no recipe, but a reference to Tenina's recipe? How to find it, and is it ok for me to put TM book recipes on this forum? I nearly called her "Wanda", as in Magic Wand, but I've already called my GPS that, haha. I saw someone suggest we print recipes from the forum out to get ready for our delivery..I just put my laptop in the kitchen and read straight from the monitor(out of the splash zone of course). Welcome shootacross. I use Evap mild & coconut essence all the time & have found that turning the temp down & removing the measuring cup helps mine stop splitting. Sometimes it still happens & I tell my family to close their eyes and eat as it still tastes great.
I use my laptop in the kitchen as well but need to get myself a cookbook program to save my favourites in 1 spot. Just no time to research to find the right one. Some members here use Living Cookbook and say it's great but I have a Mac & LC only runs on Windows. I could run it via my virtual program but would prefer a Mac specific one.

Welcome to both you girls.  Sounds like you are both having a great fun time with your machines.  Can't help with the separation issue and Tenina is NO 1 cook for the TMX head office.   She has her own Blog or is it a Web site?  She is a very nice person and sometimes looks in on the Forum.

Welcome shootacross from Bunbury.  Like VHJ I use evaporated milk and it does split but the taste is the same. I guess if I was making it for guests I'd use the correct things.
Tenina's Naan bread is lovely.  The recipe is in the 2009 calendar.  I have been looking on Tenina's site but I haven't found it. Sorry, someone else will be cleverer than I am on the computer.
