I have been having some fun with Helene on her Blog. I really would like to win this slicer and you too can have a go. Especially good for vegetarians and and special dieters.
http://www.superkitchenmachine.com/
The more the merrier.
If I can't win it I have found it on this web site I use often. Very good service and prices.

Oh my Gretchen! You are such fun ;D :-)) :-* :D
Gretchen wants to win the prize so badly that she has even taken to submitting photos to improve her chances! I really DO hope you win Gretchen, for all the effort you're putting into this, but it IS a random draw so we shall see...
My fingers are crossed on your behalf ;) , but don't hold your breath... :o
-
Hi Helene. I hope to get to your part of the world next year. (with a little bit of luck) I had a good laugh at Gretchen's photos and comments.
-
Gretchen, you are such a hoot. I hope those who visit Helene's blog love you as much as we do here in Australia. I'm sure you will end up with one of those gadgets one way or another - either winning it or buying it yourself. Good luck.
-
Aw shucks, Dawn. Thanks for that though. It is all a bit of fun. You had better join in.
I have another photo to post soon.
Gert

I would hate to lessen your chances Gretchen ;) ;)
-
Nah Judy you better enter. If ya win think of the fun you can have.
Gretch
-
Ha - there are a few people on SuperKitchenMachine who would like to lessen Gretchen's chances... but I have my doubts. Gretchen seems pretty headstrong, single-minded and intent on getting this prize, but we shall see. Best part is, she keeps me thoroughly entertained! Yes, Gretchen, you are the definition of "a HOOT!"
WOO HOO HOO !!! :D ;D :-*
-
Well if I don't win the Benriner I am really going to have to consider buying one as I cannot miss out on all that fun playing with raw vegetables. Just think what you could do with areally really big daikon radish!
Gretchen

If and when I take a trip back home, I'm going to have to catch up with Gretchen... I can always do with the laughs! ;)
Good luck with the competition Gretchen! :-*
-
Door is open and thanks CeeJay. Don't care if I win but it would be nice if someone from this forum did.. Well :D :D :D not true, I really want to win. LOL

Gretchen oy oy ooy. ;D ;D ;D

I've thrown my hat into the ring with this challenge. ;D

I've had one of these spiral "slicers" for years - it is great for raw foods, slaws and salads and certainly works well for steaming. (I don't have the Benriner - mine is a Bron and works in a horizontal position instead of vertical. It has a flat blade as well as two of the "julienne" blades so I can also make "ribbons" for garnishes and etc.)
However, I also use it a great deal for deep fried items. The "threads" cook in seconds and because they are so thin, retain little of the oil.
I especially love sweet potatoes done this way. Another favorite it celery root or celeriac - usually used mostly for soups and stews, the flavor is enhanced by this method of cooking.
It is amazing how one sweet potato can morph into an attractive "haystack" of crisp goodness.
I also have one of the bird nest fryer baskets (http://www.decofinder.com/df/gb/produits/2148/Bird-S-Nest-Fryer-Basket.html) and make all kinds of root vegetable "baskets" to fill with other things, the possibilities are endless.
-
MrsT has been at me for some time now to buy one. We had a delicious apple tart with roses made from strips of apple rolled into roses. Also like you, the fried baskets are great fun too with shredded veg
-
Here's a tip.
For potatoes, apples and others that turn brown when exposed to air, I have a bowl with acidulated water in the sink and have the cutter right next to the sink so the threads can go straight into the water.
Potatoes to be fried benefit from a good soak and rinse to remove as much starch as possible so they will crisp nicely.
When the oil is ready, I have a thick towel ready and remove a portion of the potato (or whatever) from the water, place it on one end of the towel and roll it firmly to express as much water as possible then immediately transfer it to the oil or place into the bird nest basked and place into the oil.
I don't recall if you have jicama (hic-a-ma) in Australia but it shreds nicely and makes a terrific addition to slaws and salads and I love it in gado gado, added after the cooked items and I also add it to a Waldorf type salad - the different texture livens up this old standard.
-
We have jicama (sometimes called yam bean here) and it is a crunchy little number that would be great on the slicer -thanks.
-
Celeriac would work well too.

I nearly had a winner this time Judy. ROFLMAO! Have a look at Quirky Jo's bag. Good fun.

Getchen, you have far too much spare time on your hands ;D ;D ;D ;D It must be killing you having to wait so long for the winner to be announced. I promise you this, if I win it I am going to send it up to you because no-one deserves it as much as you. Guess I'd better put some more entries in aye? In the meantime, are you working on your next idea :D :D
Love the pics Jo, us Aussies have had our fair share of prizes from Helene's competitions haven't we ;)
-
What a laugh you are, Gretchen!! It's such a great little gadget, I think I'm going to have to buy one! ;D It would be so good for my raw vege pasta noodles!
Thanks JD, we had a lovely lazy time at the beach last week, and my new bag was really useful! It's so big - fits heaps of stuff in it. ;D
-
A beautiful set of photos Jo.

looks like he has a better idea than me !!!
I bought one for MrsT - the bigger model with slicer in vertical plane. Might have to get Jaxon to send some ideas.
-
If I don't win it I may buy that one thermomixer. Looks like a lot of fun.
Gretch
-
Poor Jaxon, what next?
-
Did I hear you say "Poor Jaxon" Cookie??? :'( :'( :'(?
Ha! I've no pity for "Poor Jaxon"... Why not? He gets to live with Gretchen! :-)) :o :-))
What could be more fun than helping Gretchen plan her next culinary adventure? ;D
(And he probably gets to lick the liverwurst bowl too!) ;)
-
poor jaxon alright, he looked very dubious about that carrot :D

Ho ho . Jaxon loves carrots and most veggies when I mix them in his chicken dinner. He is a very lucky pooch as all his food comes out of the Thermomix. Some cooked and some just chopped. He would really like some spiralised carrots so I really need to get that Benriner.

Congratulations ceejay. I am sure you are going to love your little machine and please let us have some pics of your creations. If it couldn't be me I am happy it is one of "us".

Thanks for posting this, been wondering when it would be announced. Congratulations Ceejay, the kids are going to love it. I agree with Gretchen, if she couldn't win it, at least it was one of us who did. What a fun site Helene has.
-
Good work ceejay :-* :-*
-
:o :o :o :o
Oh my... I'm lost for words... honestly.. and that's unheard of... ;D
Thank you sooooo much Helene and Knifepro! :-* :-* :-* :-*
Honestly thought it was all yours Gretchen! I am totally stunned!
I've been out doing my own research into buying one but could only find a commercial one in our kitchen stores.... and much to my 15yo son's amusement... I took a photo of it on my phone... :P
Does make me wonder when I *might* be able to prise it from my children's clutches so I might experiment with it... ;)
Great news after a tough week or two... and two very sick kiddies.. and little sleep for mum! :-))
-
After a tough week Ceejay, this win will lift yours and the children's spirits I am sure. May things be on the up and up from now on in. :-* :-*
-
Yay for you C ;D
-
Ceejay that is wonderful news.

Congratulations Ceejay!! :D
