Title: Easy Light Pilaf (with photo)
Post by: farfallina on July 16, 2010, 09:20:05 am

It is an easy pilaf recipe that I use to accompany with main dishes
 ;)

Easy Light Pilaf:

Number of People: 2

Ingredients:
150g rice
1700g water
Salt
1 small carrot, diced
40g frozen peas
Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation:
    * Put water and salt in TM Bowl. Bring to boil for 15 minutes at Varoma Temperature on Speed 1 (Or you can simply warm water with kettle to speed up as I did)
    * Insert steaming basket into TM Bowl. Pour rice into basket
    * Put carrots and peas into Varoma Bowl and close with Varoma Lid
    * Cook for 15 minutes at Varoma Temperature. (It took me 15 minutes but the cooking time may differ due to rice type so you may need to add a couple of minutes)
    * Drain rice and transfer it in a bowl together with veggies. Drizzle with a little oil and mix.

Afiyet olsun...

Tips/Hints: If you want to cook for 4 people you can simply double the amount of rice and veggies

farfallina, a nice simple recipe. is the rice just ordinary long grain, medium grain, arborio?

Most of the time I am using ordinary white rice, medium or long grain, sometimes basmati rice
It usually takes around 15 minutes, but it's always better to check cooking time on the rice pack. (Generally speaking if it is white rice it takes around 12-18 minutes depending on the type. If it is brown rice it takes longer.)

I've never used arborio or carnaroli for this kind pilaf. I use them only for risotto.
With their high starch content I don't know how this kind of cooking method would result
I update this if someday I have some change of heart :)

Yes Thermomixer, you are right. ;)
In Turkey they often serve kebap with pilaf. Rice or bulgur

I did this for visitors the other day farfallina and doubled it for the 4 of us.  Ended up with so much that I turned the leftovers into fried rice which gave 3 big servings.  I will, in future, make some of this and freeze it to use specifically for fried rice - I had carrot, corn, peas and beans in it as the pilaf then added sauteed onion, bacon and cut up omelette and quickly stir fried it with some soy sauce - it was delicious and beats the take away shop version hands down.

I am happy you liked it and also managed to adapt to another great recipe judydawn ;)

I cook 75-80g rice per person. It depends how rich is accompanying dish I guess. Maybe you had a rich dish so you had leftovers
Or maybe we simply eat too much  :D :D :D

I never made fried rice before. I will keep in mind your version when I make it  :-*
