Title: It's sitting on the bench - all shiny and new - bit scared!!!
Post by: fussykidsmum on June 17, 2010, 11:22:28 am
Hi.  Have been lurking on the forum, trying to decide if TM is really going to make the difference to us that I think it will.  You have all convinced me.

Had my delivery demo today.  Can't wait to get started.  Planning to get the kids in bed and sit down with the recipe books making a shopping list for tomorrow.  Haven't actually made anything unsupervised this afternoon, but big plans for tomorrow.

Three very fussy kids - one won't eat fruit or bread that is more than one day old (doesn't make school lunches easy).  Hoping this will help me sneak a few nutrients in when they're not looking  :D.

Look forward to getting to know you all, and picking up some tips and confidence.  ;D

Welcome fkm,
hope you have loads of fun tomorrow. It is daunting when you have your first unassisted go with the machine. There is a great thread of helpful hints from the consultants here on the forum. I've printed it up and do refer to it from time to time just to keep my mind fresh.
You'll be amazed at what you'll be able to slip into the food without your children being aware of what they are eating.
Do let us know how you go and what you decide to make.

Hi Fussykidsmum, I can relate!  It can get discouraging when kids won't eat food after all the effort.  Hope you can find some recipes on here that entice them.

There are quite a few "deceptive" recipes in the kids section that are great at getting the food you want into them without them knowing.

Make sure you check out the fruity dream recipe in EDC.  And my girls love having dessert treats of blended banana and homemade milo to make banana custard, or if you use frozen banana, it's chocolate icecream.  They're treats that I feel good about.

Have fun tomorrow as you begin the adventure.

Welcome to the Forum fcm.   Follow some of the recipes till you are confident.   Our chooks ate very well for the first week ;D ;D   and ask for help if you are in trouble.

Hi fcm, welcome to the forum. I know exactly how you feel, all I made with the demo delivery was a sorbet and then I was on my own.  Like you, I was frightened of it and this went on for weeks.  Anything I made didn't seem to work but then I found this forum and away I went.  You will get all the confidence and support you need from here - it goes hand in hand with the TMX beautifully so enjoy your journey and hopefully those fussy kids will learn that food which comes out of the machine really is good stuff and they will be asking for more.

Welcome fkm. I wonder what you have tried and how it went. Feel free to ask all sorts of questions on the forum. I've had my machine 18 months and are still learning things and becoming braver and trying new things.

Welcome to the forum.  I know exactly how you are feeling.  I so frightened that I would break the machine at first - now I wouldn't be without it.  Your confidence will grow with each dish that you make. Try out the ones that are on here that lots of people like and then move on to your own creations!!!  I know in a short time you will have mastered it.

Welcome FKM and I agree with Nay-Nay - pick a recipe and just go for it  ;D ;D Approach it with confidence and you will never look back. Yours kids will be eating so healthy soon and they won't even know it  :P :P There are a few of us mum's on here that are deceptive cooks lol

All great advice FKM.In my early days of TMX ownership  I found that using it to make at least one thing everyday no matter how simple helped boost my confidence. Good luck and a warm welcome.  ;D ;D

Thank you all for the lovely welcome and the reassurance.  This is a very friendly forum!  :D

Cookie1 - you were wondering what I have tried already?  I took the plunge two days ago with the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe (very well received, even though I thought it was a bit heavy on the nuts), and then scored myself huge points with the hot chocolate after school (we are in Melbourne and it was freezing and wet - so perfect weather!).  Two questions - 1.  the chocolate chip dough didn't seem to mix well at the end on the reverse stir setting.  I will explore the forum for a solution, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.  2. Can I double the hot chocolate recipe?  We had six children here, so I was making the stated quantity over and over.

... and then today ....  I have had SO MUCH FUN!!!!!  I made the pizza dough this morning and we used it in our pizza oven at lunchtime (to a fantastic reaction).  Then I went on to the the orange cake (orange and lemon in my case) - also terrific.  Then  pumpkin soup ... and, tonight, chicken with cashew nuts.  Kids not so big on the sauce (too much cornflour/not sweet enough?), but SO easy to make.

I'm going to try Cathy79's idea with the bananas and milo in a minute.  Fingers crossed!

Thanks again for the welcome - looking forward to getting to know you all.
 ;D

Mmm milo and banana - wonder if that will get me through the day still being up at 3am with a sick child and work tomorrow... off to find out then maybe get the first catnap of the night.

Glad to see you are enjoying your TMX.  :)

Fkm it sounds like things are going well.  I find with the choc chip recipe I need to stir on reverse for longer or just give them a stir in with a spatula before I cook them.

Jules, I hope you managed work and the child is feeling better.

I have made a note on my recipe FKM that Nay-nay doubles the milk so she obviously found it too strong.  It does answer your question though, yes you can double it.

FKM, so glad you got good receptions to your initial endeavours. Certainly helps the confidence. You can only go from strength to strength from here & you are sure to enjoy the adventures you have. I made butter for the first time last night and it felt so good to have success when it was oh, so easy.

Yep - I always double the milk but leave the sugar and coco the same. Also I only heat it to 70 or even 60 for the kids but I like it at 80. One tip: Don't be in too much of a hurry to get the lid off as soon as you've whizzed it up. If you turn it off and and twist the lid off in the same action after having up to speed 9 you will have hot chocolate everywhere!!!  :-)) I know cause I did this not long after getting TMX. It's really good with marshmallows!   ;)

I don't want to know. I have my fingers over my eyes going la la la la la la.
It's raining here and that would be so nice.

Oh - go on Cookie! If you had it everytime it rained I'm sure that wouldn't be too often!  ;)
