Title: Gluten free 1st birthday party ideas
Post by: ~ - Jules - ~ on June 11, 2010, 04:10:41 am
Hi,

We are having a joint 1st birthday party for our mum's n bubs group tomorrow.

I've got the cakes sorted (a mini 3d bear cake each), but am after some gluten free party food ideas.

The party theme is a teddy bears picnic so anything that fits the theme would be WONDERFUL but any party food ideas would be great as well.

Thanks :)

Hmm - so most of the things you want to be baby friendly, but also yummy for mums.  That stage was a while ago for me now and I have forgotten what things are good for babies of that age.  You could try some of quirky's banana fritters and use the buckwheat instead of spelt, which is not gluten free but quite low in gluten - checkout her website http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/, as she has lots of gluten free ideas that are really delicious.  Also you could make your own lemonade, it is so quick and easy and cheep if you use supermarket branded mineral water for the bubbles.  Do you have the gluten free cook book?  The zucchini slice (if you can get gluten free bacon) is delicous and you could cut this up into small squares for the bubs and have as bigger squares with some lovely beetroot salad on the side if it is for lunch.  The hommus is another gluten free winner and if it's just for adults make the thai hommus - it really is lovely.  Check out my conversion of 'chocolate truffles' in the babies and kids section.  I went to a first birthday party last w/e and took these - the 1yo loved them and they do have cocoa in them, but no added sugar.  I make mine with organic coconut, organic milk powder and organic sultanas so the babaies don't eat the 220 preservative.  You could make some adult versions and add a little rum.  (JUst make sure you remember which is which  ;D ;D ;D.  Hope this helps.
Have fun Number 1 is such a milestone for bub and parents.
