Title: Aussie living in Switzerland and new to Thermomix
Post by: chdv on May 30, 2010, 12:13:22 am
Hi,

I'm new to this board. After hearing about the Thermomixer from a work colleague, I spent the last couple of weeks researching and watching Thermomix utube videos. Today I attended a demo in Basel, which was great. I love the machine and can't wait to order one!

Short blurb about me: I live near Zurich, in Switzerland, with my husband and 3 teenage daughters (our son is at Uni, in US). I'm Australian, with Chinese roots (my great great grandfather immigrated to Australia from China around 1870). I used to cook all the time, but since going back to work/study, I have less time to spend in the kitchen. And actually now my husband cooks most of the time. I'm hoping that the Thermomix will inspire me to start back again.

Welcome to the forum chdv, looking forward to some of your recipes, especially anything Chinese based.  Asian recipes are lacking a little on the forum and are always welcomed.  Hope you get a TMX very soon.

Hi all,

Thanks for the nice welcome! I'm looking forward to my demo. Any ideas/recipes would be appreciated. Most of the people that will be there are seasoned/experienced cooks. Yesterday at my friends demo we made strawberry cocktail, bread, mashed potatoes, steamed fish and vegetables and strawberry icecream. I'm very impressed by how fast the dough kneading is.

Welcome chdv. I'm sure a Thermomix will inspire you to cook again. They are such exciting machines that can do so much.

Welcome Cheryl! There's some great recipes here as well as tips and tricks. We'd love it if you could share any oriental recipes here when you're comfortable with the Thermomix!

Yes, welcome Chdv, trust you are able to purchase your TMX sooner rather than later and can join in the fun of trying new recipes both from the books and from the forum. And, as others have said when you are comfortable your contribution of recipes to the forum will be very welcome.

You have an interesting multi-cultural background. The demo you had is quite different to the normal once they do here in Aus. Hope your machine doesn't take too long to be delivered, and am sure you will find your enthusiasm will return (and your appetite to taste and create all the delicious recipes from this forum  ;))

Welcome.  Great to have you on board.  There is a new Asian cookbook in the pipeline that may appeal with your Asian background - even though it was a long time ago.  ;)

The demo was a lot of fun. We made a fruit/vegie power drink, bread, a main course (veal with a leek, tomato and cheese sauce served with steamed rice and vegetables), followed by peach granita

I am going to reactivate my old cooking blog and add a couple of photos and one or two recipes there. I'll post the link after I'm done.

I've had problems posting until now (new PC and I couldn't remember my password), plus I've been rather busy. Thank you all, for positive feedback, appreciated.

I have a few new Thermomix posts on my blog: http://dvfood.blogspot.com/.

Please read the entry on March 5th, after I decided to do this I wondered if I shouldn't think about therapy of some kind.

I might also repost this under a new topic, so sorry for the double posts.

Thanks for the feedback! If you've had time to read my blog, you know that I've joined the TM consultant team in Switzerland. I had my first training demo last Friday! It was loads of fun, but we probably attempted way too much.

Thanks, I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, so it will be a challenge. I'm totally over the moon, enthralled and amazed with my Thermomix, but I'm wondering if or when the infatuation will wear off. Claudia, (my team captain or LEADER), made hollandaise sauce the other night, at my first consultant training demo, and it was so, so good. This was always something I would try to avoid, pre-TM. I hope I will continue to be positively surprised at the TM's capabilities.

Let me assure you the infatuation will not wear off chdv - there are plenty on here who will attest to that  ;) ;)

Good one chdv - good news. I know I needed to find you a recipe, but have forgotten for what? Something Polish - it will come back to me.

sorry, I also can't remember which recipe I was asking about. I guess it wasn't that important. I'm still loving my Thermomix and I've sold 2 to my lab mate (the person I share my lab with, that's a lab mate isn't it?).

I know and it's still up there on my list of the best kitchen machine available. But, for the next model, I hope they're developing a machine with internet access and a usb port, with a screen that displays recipes, blinking when I have to go to the next step. Or better still I'd like it to talk to me.

but now ok, enough dreaming. Time to go pack for a digestive diseases conference in Chicago.

BTW, this is a great forum, thanks for your help and support everyone!

Trip to the US was great. DDW (Digestive Diseases Week) in Chicago was impressive, there were close to 20,000 people there. After the conference I tripped around a bit, and caught up with my son, a couple of dear old friends and our baby-sitter/au pair (who's like my sister/daughter). BUT, it was so nice to come back home to my TM (and my husband and my girls!).

Frozzie, were you able to order the Taste of Asia cookbook? I think I saw it mentioned , but now that I want to order one, I can't find the details!

I'm adding a photo of the bean in Chicago

Cheryl, I wonder if our Mall's Balls in Adelaide, South Australia are related to the Bean in Chicago.
