Title: Meatballs in caper sauce with potatoes - My Way of Cooking
Post by: Nay-nay on May 21, 2010, 09:00:50 am
This got a Thumbs up from us even though hubby and son don't really like capers they still thought sauce was good! I wouldn't have even bothered with this unless dd9 hadn't begged me to make it - she is mad on capers. Much they same procedure as baf65 chicken - meat in top, potatoes in basket and sauce in bottom. Very tasty - made 17 meat balls.  ;)

That book has photos in it doesn't it Nay-nay?  See how photos help sell a recipe, even to a 9 year old  ;) ;)  It would be nice if all our recipe books had photos in future.

Oh, the other thing that I was going to say Nay nay - did you use the capers in salt or vinegar?  Sometimes, if you use the salted capers and wash/soak very well then people will prefer them to the vinegary ones.

You can substitute the capers with pickles Nay-nay  ;)

Thanks guys - Yeah I usually get "Always Fresh" Brand which is just the stock standard brand in Supermarket with no particular country of origin and it's just salt. The Coles brand is salt and vinegar and is from Turkey. I noticed on Land Line once there is an Australian brand but I haven't seen it anywhere as yet. The 'boys' did like the sauce even though they don't usually like capers on their pizza. Will try rinsing. :)

I'm about to make this for tea tonight. Has anyone made these recently? I'll probably do a creamy sun dried tomato based sauce rather than the caper one.

Since there were no replies, I made Bron's Spanish Meatballs instead

Pretty tasty for steamed meatballs  :P I chose to roast my potatoes rather than boil them, and was pleased my meatballs looked just like the picture.
