Title: Gourmet Recipe Manager
Post by: Lemongrass on May 15, 2010, 09:32:18 am
I'm using Gourmet Recipe Manager to sort my recipe database and I really like it so I thought I'd share it here.
It's originally a linux software but apparently works well on Windows. If you're running Linux, you can easily install it via the Ubuntu software centre (9.10 and above) or the "Add / remove" section (before 9.10)
If you're using Windows you can download it here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/grecipe-manager/files/0.15.4/gourmet-0.15.4-alpha-no-gtkglade.exe/download

It is free software, so you're allowed to use it, share it, etc...

You can have a look at a few screenshots here : http://grecipe-manager.sourceforge.net/#display
And it's really easy to use : if you find a recipe you like on the web and want to save it, just copy and paste the ingredients list in the program and it's clever enough to sort them for you !
It also has 2 useful boxes : "source" and "webpage" to help you go back to where you found your recipe!
You can even export your gourmet database to share it with others !

Enjoy !

Thanks Lemongrass, that looks really interesting, and, even better, it's FREE! I'm going to download and try.

I downloaded it, but it required a runtime programme that I didn't have, so had to download that too. The GTK + Runtime programme is here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gtk-win/files/GTK%2B%20Runtime%20Environment/GTK%2B%202.16/gtk2-runtime-2.16.6-2010-05-12-ash.exe/download).

And I still can't use it, programme won't open.... :-\ #@^%& Vista!

I got Living Cookbook as part of my motherday pressie and I am loving it. Took me some time to clear out all the recipes and ingredients that I wouldn't use (you don't have to do that, I just wanted to reduce what my OLD computer had to handle) and then spent some time playing around with getting the layout I like, now it is so quick and easy I LOVE IT ;D ;D

I'm quite surprised you're all having problems with the program. It might be a Windows thing. It works perfectly well with Linux on my 2 computers as well as on my friend's. We even managed to share our databases !
Title: Re: Gourmet Recipe Manager - Australian Conversions
Post by: Dean on June 15, 2010, 02:40:18 am
I've developed a locale file for Gourmet especially for Australian Thermomix users.  It has conversions from UK and US weights and measures to Australian weights and measures. It also has weight information for a number of common ingredients to allow volume measures to be converted to weight for use with the Thermomix.

The file is attached.  Just copy it into your gourmet/defaults directory and restart Gourmet.  If your computer has the correct locale for Australia, it should pick up the new values automatically.

Note: This will default Gourmet to use Australian measurements ie. cup = 250ml, tbsp = 20ml.  US/UK measurements are entered as 'UK cup', 'US cup' etc.  You may need to adjust the units used in your existing recipes.

UPDATE: An earlier version of the file had an incorrect conversion for white sugar.  The corrected version has been attached
