Found this recipe whilst waiting in the dentist's rooms the other day in a New Idea magazine and altered it slightly.
Makes 2 medium glasses or 1 very large one for a healthy breakfast on the run.
1 banana
1 weetbix
130g milk
60g natural yoghurt
1/2 tspn vanilla extract
1 tblspn Milo
2 tspns honey (15g)
140g ice
Ad all ingredients to the TM bowl and blitz on speed 9 for 1.5 minutes.
-
Just had it to give it a go hehehe
Pretty good I think! The weet-bix is surprisingly a little overpowering but gave it a bit of texture/weight which I think is good.
-
Seeing as we had a cooked lunch, we had this for tea tonight Snoozie - so not exclusively for breakfast aye :-)) :-))
-
Good one JD - think I've seen people with cartons of something similar ?? Looks like a plateful of cereal to drink in the car on way to work??
-
nope definitely not just for breakfast!
Yeah Thermomixer... Up & Go and the like.... I think this is probably better for you though! hehehehe
I am toying with adding ground up linseed and other nice items to hide in it! lol

Good idea- Maybe Cathy79's MEMOC mix.
I make something similar to this for DS2 when he has an early morning swimming training and have been toying with the idea of nuts/seeds in it

Yes but I'm concerned about the linseed in that with it's propensity for oxidising and going rancid fairly quickly. Maybe putting it in the fridge helps counteract that but I daresay it would be something along those lines just probably not made in bulk.
-
Fair call if you wanted to make it in bulk. I make as required because if I made a bigger quantity sure as eggs it would go out of favour & I'd be left with it ;)
-
heheh it's hard not to make the MEMOC in bulk when I think it was saying 1 - 2 teaspoons and I think the recipe came out in cups. I think it's a great idea and I will probably get around to it just not add the linseed at the time but later :)
If it goes out of favour it becomes my food sooooooo not fun sometimes! lol
-
Just be careful preparing linseed with any liquid, you'll get a gooey, unappealing gel!
When you place flax seed (linseed) in warm water and let it simmer a little, you'll see that it makes a clear jelly. I used this tonight as an egg replacement for fish patties as I didn't have any eggs. It worked and they didn't disintegrate when I fried them.
-
Yup that's what the herbalist we saw said heheh that you need to consume it straight away otherwise it becomes very, very gluggy!!! lol
We were grinding up the linseeds then putting them with chia seeds into our cereal. :)

Good to know MJ - ta. Not something to leave on the table for guests to help themselves at breakfast. :o :o :o

Thanks CP,I missed this recipe first time around. ;)

No homemade milo (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3078.0) so used raw cacoa instead, verdict:easy and yummy. A good healthy breakfast.

Made this this morning, minus banana as I don't have any, with some trepidation as it did seem a bit strange! It actually was quite nice and my eldest son who is never good at eating breakfast is really enjoying it. Will have to try again when bananas aren't so expensive.
-
Great news shazzy, nice to know DS is enjoying it - a good breakfast alternative for sure.
-
Was wanting a home made version of up & go, will be giving this a go most definitely :D
-
My son who hates breakfast loves this! Breakfast problem solved thank you!

I'm happy to hear that Mattsmum, it is an important meal for kids. Welcome to the forum with your first comment.

This is new breakfast favorites in the house! Have played around inspired with Up&Go flavour. Thank you, JD!
