Title: Recipes for Adzuki Beans - tried and proven if possible
Post by: cathy79 on April 18, 2010, 07:21:18 am
I've bought some Adzuki Beans for some reason  :-[ and now I'm not quite sure why.

I've googled and found a few recipes, but was wondering if anyone had recipes they liked that they could share.

I have a bean goulash recipe which I will try and convert to TMX format for you....

Here it is :

http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3456.msg41834#msg41834

As it says, it is untested in the TMX so you may need to keep an eye on the timings but I think it should be OK.   I made it the other day (not in the TMX shock horror  :o :o) and a friend said it was delicious and asked for the recipe.   Hope you like it

Sounds good Katya - I have all the ingredients, so I'll put the beans on to soak now ready for tomorrow.

Good to hear you've made it and liked it.

You can make desserts too - haven't done any TMX recipes but will look thru books.  Katya's goulash sounds good.

Apparantly it's great in ice-cream as it's a sweet bean?  Sounds unusual.

I think Tetsuya had them as a dessert - so you can't get a better recommendation.

Good question Cathy - I've seen these recently in my local shop and was nearly going to get them and stopped myself until I knew what to do with them.  :D

Pretty sure there is a stew in the veg book. I know it is in one of the books as I have made it.  ;D If you want it PM me and I will hunt it out  :)

What is the name of the recipe faffa?? I just searched the veg book and the only reference I found on them was at the front explaining the cooking times. Adzuki Beans have a 2-3hr soaking time. Then bung in TMX basket with at least 1L water Varoma Temp, 40-50 mins on speed 2-3. 200g yields 410g when cooked.  ;)

I knew I'd seen them in a recipe somewhere but thought it was the Indian Cookbook so went through the book twice when Cathy79 first posted. Then went through all my TMX books but still no luck.Thank goodness you posted Faffa because when I couldn't find anything I thought I was going mad.  I now remember I left the GFWF in Busselton.

Faffa, can you share the recipe with me?  I'll try it and review.

Try making Cuban Rice.  Just gently saute an onion and garlic until nicely caramelised adding chopped chilli towards the end.  Then fold this through your rice together with the adzuki beans and reheat.  DEEEElicious. ;D  Re quantities, for my family of 2 large and 2 small(ish) I use 250g rice, 1 large onion, 3 large cloves garlic, 1 medium red chilli and 250g adzuki beans (sometimes add a bit of bacon for extra flavour).  But experiment to find the combination that suits you.
