Post by: mixi on April 14, 2010, 11:58:31 am
I wonder if somebody else has the same problem than i. I was joining a Thermomix Demonstration and liked it. But what i did not like was the price. So i was looking for an alternativ. I only found one that can be compared to the TM31 but it is much ceaper? Iam totaly confuesed because the TM31 is produced in France and not in Germany? My frensh Car broed down some weeks ago...  So please help me out of this situatation.

Thanks Ramon

Hi haven't seen the MyCook before (just googled it now). Would really have to investigate the MyCook before I could comment on a comparison.

But looking at this website http://www.mcc-shop.com/MYCOOK-16-DOMESTICO-BY-TAURUS/en (http://www.mcc-shop.com/MYCOOK-16-DOMESTICO-BY-TAURUS/en) some of the information on the Thermomix is incorrect (ie Temp) and really not sure what they mean by Temp Rating  ???  They state that Thermomix only reaches 100C, but on the steaming temp it actually reaches 120C.

Thermomix scales are more sensitive.

It also reminds me of the TM21... does it have a reverse function on the blades?

Can't comment on the heating system either as I have either the Thermomix or electric hotplates.... so no expert here  :D :-))

Hi, I am offering some correct info on Thermomix as opposed to what I saw on the link posted by I love Bimby. I am in same boat tho.. never even heard of MYCOOK till now.
Thermomix top temp is 114 deg as anything above this is killing the nutrients in your food
There is 8 temp settings plus a kneading, reverse and turbo function
The Blades are continuously adjustable, from 40rpm to 10,200rpm (therefore it can mill 1tsp of linseed's)
Scales measure from 5 to 100g in 5g increments; 100 to 2000g in 10g increments (to max 6kg)
It works via a reluctance motor which means it has no wearing parts to replace. Also it only has the one set of solingen steel blades
Thermomix is designed by a Germany company, Vorwerk, it is only assembled in France www.vorwerk.com
I would be interested to know the top speed of one of these plus what is the 'Complete Pitcher'? Does this come with this machine or is it extra? What is it for?
I am extremely biased but there is a very good reason this other machine is so cheap.

When in doubt, there is no doubt - something doesn't quite look right - especially when a company measures itself against another company and deliberately undersells their competition by getting the facts plain wrong.

I considered the MyCook pro. before purchasing the TM31 but there is one glaring problem - they do not make a model that operates on US electric current and if the appliance is operated with a converter the warranty is void.
Also on the pro model the steaming unit is extra which brings the price to the same as the TM31.

It also has a much larger footprint.  That wouldn't be a problem for me but for someone with limited counter space, a definite minus.

I also considered (briefly) the Kenwood KM070 Cooking Chef but it certainly does not have the versatility of the TM31 and is HUGE.
The price is comparable to the TM31 and there is a US model but sales outlets are very limited.
My friend who owns a bakery and café  saw one in operation at the kitchen and bath trade show last year and his opinion was that it would be great for pastry chefs but of little use to others, except for what he refers to as the "wild-haired, avant-gard chefs who must think they are on a space station or the star ship Enterprise with all their weird food productions."
Ben is a six-foot-seven-inch, three-hundred pound ex-football player who is a very traditional baker and not much into the "new-age" type of food.

It looks like the 70's version of the TMX!
Is there a MyCook forum? Perhaps ask people there what their opinion is. Certainly, on this forum, we're all nuts about the Thermomix. :D

Probably not the best place to ask, as I think we're all rather biased here :)

I tried to do some research but didn't find much. Only one review and it didn't say much as the manual was spanish so the guy didn't know how it worked  :o

Looks like it's a relatively new spanish company who make a large range of appliances. The lack of info from users is going to make any comparison difficult. They've obviously cloned the TMX as even some of their product wording is practically verbatim from the TMX literature. I personally don't like companies that can't even come up with their own marketting blurb.

One strange thing I noticed. It says all the parts are dishwasher safe except the blades?? I wonder why?

I have seen some other "Taurus" branded products before, in discount shops and online mega stores. That's never a good sign for quality unfortunately.

Russell.

There was some info given to DH at a branch meeting some time last year about the MyCook. I will try and remember to ask him what it was. There is also a very good reason why the MyCook looks a lot like the TM21 .. that is because the TM31 is well protected by worldwide patents that it is very hard to copy!!

I'm also very biased and don't know much about MyCook so for a change will keep my mouth closed. :-))

Ok- not sure what part of the world you are in Ramon, but if ti is Australia, then there is not much MyCook here.

A link to show what it can do here: http://www.mycook.es/kitchen-robot/index.php (http://www.mycook.es/kitchen-robot/index.php)  there is lots to see there.

If you habla espanol then there are foro for MyCook too.

In Australia you can purchase through Rely Services http://www.relyservices.com.au/ (http://www.relyservices.com.au/) here in Melbourne

The machine is basically a TM 21 - the old model, with an induction method of cooking.  It heats up more and so frying is better.  But it does not have reverse and the blades are like the old TM blades so you cannot immerse them in water (you can't immerse old TM 31 blades either)

As Andie says it takes up more room on the bench.

If comparing then best to compare with the old TM 21 which you may be able to purchase secondhand through eBay or a consultant.

hope that is of some help.

One strange thing I noticed. It says all the parts are dishwasher safe except the blades?? I wonder why?

That was true until a year ago or so I think. Previously, the lubrication sistem inside the blade rotor was affected by washing in the dishwasher. Now that sistem has changed and all removable parts of the THX-31 are fully dishwasher safe.

Ahh OK, so it's not the blades, it's the connection mechanism, which of course is attached, so includes the blades....

My blades are dishwasher safe but they were among the first lot that were able to be immersed.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone else had ivestigated this further. I have a customer who wants to know the difference between the two and wants to purchase either one. Obviously the answer is a TM but just want to know any extra negatives of purchasing the mycook. Does anyone know what sort of motor they have and prices? Additional cookbooks?
Information seems to be lacking!!

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but MyCook can reach higher temps for "frying" but loads of negatvies from me & very few extra recipes, thought there is a substantial book with the machine.
