Title: Demo for mother's group - help needed for baby food suggestions
Post by: earth mumma on March 11, 2010, 01:38:42 am
Hello all.  I am having a demo next week for a mother's group  ;D ;D.  They want to see how quickly the TM can make baby food.  Unfortunately I got my TM after all of my babies were babies  :-\. Does anyone have some suggestions on what the TM is great for when it comes to babies - especially babies that are only just starting on foods. Do you have any suggestions on what I can make at the demo for them to see?  I'd like to make the baby rusks but don't like the idea of using formula milk, sugar or the wheat germ - is there anything else I could substitute here?  I would great appreciate any help and ideas.
Thanks

Turning the rice to flour and then making the cereal would be a good demo. Also If you had layers of maybe potato down the bottom. pumpkin in the basket, pears, and apple in Varoma and then whizzed them individually and put into big ice cube containers - I would be impressed at how easy it was to make your baby food. Not sure about rusks but making playdough would be good too. :)

Thanks Nay-Nay.  Will try the rice cereal and the veggie/fruit combo and see how I go.  How long do you think I should cook the veggies/fruit for?

500g of mash potatoes (I personally think sweet potato is better) might take 15-20mins (EDC) should have a run through first and test it out. It doesn't sound too exciting but it is food that babies start on - nothing fancy. But for a toddler there are recipes with more in them in EDC. Make sure you point out that recipe book comes with the machine - hand it around.
I found these baby rusk recipes - might be something on there you could try.

I made these oat cereals as an afternoon snack when my girls were little:

Ingredients:

30 g oats
200 g water
1 small apple

1 banana

Method:

You have to check the time for the oats. I used at this time the TM21 and was used to grind it for 1 Min. 30 sec. These were 3 portions and are good up to 3 days

Thank you all.
The demo went really well and I modified Telbastile's suggestion and did it with organic brown rice flour (made in the TM) and a whole apple instead, cooked it with 1MC of boiling water for 5 1/2 mins and the consistency was perfect.  It was beautiful to see all the bubba's loving their TM meal :D :D :D.  Explained the idea of using the varoma to create layers of food and then pureeing them and putting in ice-cube trays. This was very appealing for the guests as a few of them are back at work and needing time saving options with their babies.   All in all a great success - thank you for your help and suggestions.

There was a basic starter soup in the latest Bimby Magazine - fill up the main body with loads of different vegetables (800grs) and in the varoma they had a chicken breast, a fillet of fish and some veal, all in those plastic bags you can cook in the varoma with (and in the oven - they are heat resistant). Then all is cooked for 30 minutes - temp. varoma, speed 1. Remove varoma, add some olive oil, and process soup to satisfaction. Reserve soup. Add 600grs to TM and process again with one of the meat and then repeat with other meat and fish. This makes quite a few portions of starter baby soup with three different sources of protein.

Would love the recipes thank you - I can pass them on as I have a few TM clients with new babes and they would love them I am sure. 1 babe convinced his mumma that they really needed a TM and 2 others are working on their mumma's.  ;D ;D :D

Bron has talked about this magazine in Spain before VHJ - think it comes out pretty regularly.  I'm sure if there was one written in English we would have heard about it by now.

Its the official Vorwerk magazine that comes out monthly, in Spain. I have subscribed for a year. Have to admit its fab! But in our kiosks, there are about 4 or 5 different monthly Thermomix magazines. But I only get this official one, as they cost 3,50€ and how many magazines and books and recipes can I read???? There are thousands everywhere!
