Title: Hi,
Post by: RoxyS on March 07, 2010, 01:43:19 pm
Hi,
I live in the Goldfields and picked up my TM - named Ted, on Feb 6th when we were in Perth. I love Ted and was very excited tonight when my two DS's fought over who was going to make a milkshake for dessert. My DD had attended the demo I went to and my delivery demo and loves making sorbet. My DH has used Ted to make creamed rice and even had a go at improving the first lot I made for him so I am very happy. Just need to get them all using it more and life will certainly be looking up.

Have been browsing this forum and trying lots of recipes since. Have a couple of questions. In the Lunch Box & After School Ideas book, the Popcorn Bars use 100g air-popped corn. Having made the bars yesterday and weighing the popped corn and coming up with way too much to fit into a 23cm square pan, I take it I should have weighed the popcorn before popping it. Is that correct? Has anyone else made these? They still taste great and are being eaten.

The other question I have is regarding the ice cream. I made the cinnamon ice cream from the Budget Busters cookbook tonight and it says cool completely before freezing. Is this something I should have done with all the other ice cream recipes I've used as I have had mixed results with my ice cream making? Another thing I've read about ice cream is the idea of freezing the thermoserve before putting the ice cream in it to freeze.

Thanks for the conversion tips, they are much appreciated and will be used when I get opportunities to have a go at making some of my favourite conventional recipes in Ted.

Hi RoxyS welcome to the forum. It's great that your family have got so involved with Ted.
I made the Popcorn bars and just squashed the mix into the tin- but I agree it was a lot.
I cool my ice cream mix a bit before putting it in the freezer but never "completely".(far too impatient) Your mixed results may just be different ice cream mixes- keep experimenting and see what works for you.
With regard to the thermoserver -I seem to recall at my demo that the consultant told us it was not to be used in the freezer or oven. There are many consultants on this forum who will be able to deny or confirm my recollection(they are never 100% guaranteed !!)

Roxy welcome to the forum.   Don't know about pop corn,  but you should cool ice cream down before you freeze it because it is not good to put warm things into your freezer as it warms up the temp. in the freezer  and slows down the freezing.

Hi Roxy, welcome to the forum. I'll leave the topics of ice-cream and popcorn to those who know best.  Nice to see all the family wanting to have a go with Ted - it's when they all want to make something at once that you will be in trouble! Enjoy your journey with us and Ted.

Hi Roxy and welcome to the forum.

I put my Thermoserver in the freezer, no one told me not too! Cooling before freezing is as chookie says and I can't help you with the popcorn bars. I haven't looked at that recipe. Off to do it now....

Welcome RoxyS - haven't done the popcorn thing and as Chookie says - best to cool first (unless you have a blast chiller )

Thanks for all the welcomes. I have made two batches of the EDC vanilla ice cream yesterday and cooled it before freezing it in the Thermoserver, haven't got back to doing the second blitz so will be interested to see if it works better than it has previously. Does it really make a difference whether you allow it to freeze before doing the second blitz or not? I never get back to do the second blitz till it's well and truly frozen so that maybe my problem.

The second blitz is important.  You can even give a third - it helps reduce the ice crystals in the mix and makes it smoother.
