Title: CarolineW's Husband's Scrambled Eggs
Post by: Thermomixer on November 19, 2008, 01:55:37 am
Scrambled eggs are one of those dishes that I really love and I keep meaning to try the TMX, but usually make them when I'm only half awake on Sunday am.  This is a recipe from CarolineW posted in the Questions section and copied here to ensure everybody looking for a scrambled egg recipe finds it.

Thanks CarolineW.

My husband made scrambled eggs this morning.  He and my daughter both said they were excellent (I didn't have any).  This is what he did:

4 eggs
50g milk
30g butter
salt & pepper

Put all ingredients in mixing bowl.  Put butterfly whisk in.  10 minutes at speed 2, 100 degrees.

Hope this helps

Caroline

BTW  That's 5 "tickets" in the competition. ;)

Just a tip on the scrambled eggs.  My husband now adds 1 tablespoon of natural yogurt to the mix.  It tastes sublime.

I tried this without the yoghurt and it was lovely.  Very clever.

another tip - don't cook these ahead or time - or if you do then don't cook them the full 10 mins - or they will set hard while waiting in the hot bowl  :-))

however i can report that doubling the recipe still cooks perfectly in 10 minutes (with no waiting time in the bowl lol)

If you're getting close to cooked and are not ready to cook then turn down the temp to 37 and  speed soft  ^^ and keep it going for 5 or 10 minutes with the butterfly keping iy moving.

Oh i might try this.  I might cook some bacon before hand and then add the eggs to it.

Had a cooked lunch today so finally got around to trying these for tea tonight.  Added some chopped parsley and served topped with tomato slices - yum.  Only downside is that the cleaning of the TMX with this recipe is a lot harder than the non-stick frying pan.  The upside is you can get everything else ready whilst the TMX is doing the work.  Has anyone had a glass of wine with their scrambled eggs ??? ??? ??? Well it was tea time, not breakfast :P :P :P

I have tried with a low temp and making it hot before adding the eggs as Tenina had suggested that it would be less likely to stick.

Neither way is great - usually some crust left on the base.  :-\

Has anyone ever tried lining the base with baking paper ie. cutting a neat circle of baking paper, and cutting a radius line into the middle of the paper so that paper can fit neatly around the blades? I wonder if the blades would lift the paper up? I may have to give this a go tomorrow morning at brekky time to find out...

probably would be dumb idea as the whisk would lift it up...duh...I'll keep my mouth shut and make something else instead!

Well, I must be dumb too CP63 because I was actually going to suggest the same thing.  Even started the posting then deleted it ;D ;D  because I thought no, the egg would get underneath it anyway.  What if we folded the paper in such a way that it went up the sides a bit as well. One small hole in the middle of the paper for the blades to be fitted.  Would the egg mixture keep the paper down flat enough for the blades to do their job?  If we sprayed the TM bowl first that might help keep the paper down too.  Mmm, worth trying. I'm sure someone will give it a go for Sunday breakfast.

No, not dumb, cause I was giving it some serious thought after reading your post....will try it unless someone can totally blow it out of the water between now and breakfast tomorrow  ;D ;D

if all else fails take the Butterfly out and blend paper into eggs and serve to DH who wolfs down food at turbo speed and has a stomach of iron  ;)

I would try cooking at 80 or 70 degrees - may help?

Put in some warm water and washing up liquid.  Run at 90 or 100oC for 1 minute.  It's easy peasy to clean after that.  I'm taking the word of DH here - as he's the scrambled egg man.  I suggested he tried it after I started using it for porridge, and he said it worked a treat.

Made the scrambled eggs at 80oC and it still stuck - forget that brilliant idea.  :-)) :-))

Yes I have been thinking too and I don't know if I like the idea of extra work by having to cut out paper for the bottom of the bowl so think when I try it I will try Caroline's cleaning method and be done with it...still less effort  ;D :o

He he he.  Got to admit that this is one of the few things he will clean up  :D

The pregnancy is going well on the whole, thanks.  There's the occasional blip (like just at the moment, when I'm gritting my teeth against frustration from the amount I have to sit and rest with my feet up) but nothing to get worried about.  It was the same when I was pregnant with my daughter, at the same stage.  I didn't take the warning signs seriously enough with her, and got a nasty wake up call with a very touch and go day.  This time I know to behave myself!!!  I also know from last time that I'll be fit and strong and good to go again in a few weeks' time, so I just have to be sensible for a short season.

Meanwhile DH and DD are being brilliant.  And the various scans and tests have all shown the baby to be very, very healthy (and BIG), so I'm very grateful.  What are a few weeks of boredom in the bigger picture?

Talking about cleaning up after yourself - got to admit that BOTH my jugs are currently sitting uncleaned in the sink (blush)  :P :-[ :-[  So I guess there won't be much cooking done today!

Keep your feet up, keep your mind positive and keep hoping for rain - your garden needs it ( and us hopeless Aussies need the draw  ;D ;D ;D )

I still have  lurking feeling that your guys will manage to bat their way through the next 2 days and it will  be a draw.  It always worries me when the British press is so universally positive ... but then I am a natural pessimist.

And I'm really glad your pregnancy is going well Caroline - it sounds as if you are being very sensible.  I hope you don't find the next few weeks too boring and that this lovely Forum will keep you amused

I have a giggle  ;D ;D ;D everytime I see this on the 'home page'.  It says Breakfast. Re CarolineW's husband.......

I have this vision of CarolineW's husband being consumed in hundreds of homes for breakfast. Sorry-my sick sense of humour. :'(
Do forgive me CarolineW.

Whilst at my first demo egg shells were used to clean the bowl after cooking custard ... would this work for the scrambled eggs?

Helps, but doesn't really clear the thick layer on the base.

hmm, I think I might just use the fry pan for egg.... that is until someone comes up with a great idea  :D

I mentioned this problem to my rep who did my demo and he suggested adding some butter first and when cooking the egg only go up to 60 degrees rather than 80 or 90.  I personally haven't tried it but I hope it helps someone.

Ta,  think 70 might be better - it won't set if the temp doesn't get over 62oC - there are lots of recipes for eggs cooked at that temp.  May be worth trying as the base will probably get over 60 even if the light say 60 - IFKWIM  :-))

I tried this recipe (10min, speed 2, 100C) and ended up with a consistency closer to polenta than scrambled eggs.
The frypan worked a treat on the 2nd attempt :)

Ooooops.  Welcome Sammy_D.  Hope you have more luck with other recipes.  This is basically  the English Fast & Easy Cookbook recipe.  There is another one that you MAY like to try from Janine B that faffa_70 wrote up.

Can't say this is a recipe I'll be doing again. Goes against the TMX "creed" as it took longer than my usual pan recipe (basically the way Fast Ed does them), tasted a lot tougher, and was a nightmare to clean at the end. I really hate having to use my fingernails to scrub something clean!
