Title: Falafels
Post by: debs on January 09, 2010, 11:00:45 am
I was hoping someone might have a favourite recipe for falafels.  I've tried a few now but the family aren't too complimentary on them but I'd love to be eating them more often.   Either for use in TM or not - just yummy!

thanks,
deb

I think I can help you out with a good falafel recipe.   Haven't got around to converting it but will do it for you tomorrow.   you will need a tin of chick peas and a commercial  falafel mix.  I need to test the consistency made in the T.M.

Here is the recipe I use for falafel - previously made in food processor.  Should work in TMX with directions given.

                            Falafel

Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method
--------  ------------  --------------------------------
1      cup           dried peeled fava beans
   3/4    cup           dried chickpeas
   1      medium        white onion
2      cloves        garlic -- finely chopped
   1/3    cup           minced parsley
   2      tablespoons   minced cilantro
   1      teaspoon      baking powder
   2      teaspoons     salt
   2      teaspoons     paprika
   1      tablespoon    cumin

                        Garlic sauce
   1/2  cup             lemon juice
   1/2  cup             water
   4      cloves        garlic
   1      cup           tahini

Soak peas and beans for 20 hours. Drain.  Add fava beans and chickpeas to bowl and process on speed 4 or 5 until finely chopped.  Cut onion into quarters, add them and remaining ingredients into the bowl and process on speed 5 until a paste.  Form either with falafel former or two spoons.

Cook in wok in combination of sunflower and olive oil.

To make garlic sauce, put water, juice and garlic in TMX bowl, turn on to speed 5 and drizzle in the tahini.

Would love to try yours also achookwoman - when you get around to posting it.  Also happy to do the testing in the TM.  ;D

Ok, now I see what happened - I would have sworn I posted the recipe, but then found it wasn't on the thread - there are two threads!  So I'm not totally losing my mind.

Sometimes I am confused about where to post,  for example Falafels.....should they go under mains, vegetarian or snacks ?

Well I'm covered - posted it in both before I realized there were two threads.   Or perhaps there are three.
