Tomorrow is my demo and order day!! WOOHOO!! I'm so excited to see the TMX in action.
For those demo's here, can I request something be made if there's time? I'd LOVE to see the TMX make butter.
My DH is still not convinced, but I'm going to get him to come home for an early lunch to catch the end of the demo so he can see it working and what the demonstrator made. I am sooo excited!!
I've got big plans for my bimby!
-
Don't get yourself too excited, you might have a heart attack and miss your demo ;) ;) ;) I can understand your excitement though - hope DH makes it in time to get his taste of the food before others eat the lot.
-
yippee!!!! have fun!!
-
yes i had butter done way back when I was havng my demo....they can easily fit it in between the bread rolls and the salad!
-
Yep - same here - but I think she may have done it at the end of demo when everyone was eatting risotto and rolls just came out of the oven. But you would think it's better to do when bowl it quite cool and not hot. ;)
-
Computer problems !!!!! Posted a reply that has gone into cyberspace - another little orphan scrap.
Don't get yourself too excited, you might have a heart attack and miss your demo ;) ;) ;)
......and they say I have a warped sense of humour !!! :o :o :o Now she's stealing my lines ;D ;D ;D
What consultant would be silly enough to say "Computer says "No" " - if it meant closing a sale ??
-
:D :D :D :D :D Sorry Thermomixer, it's the quick or the dead around here :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Yep, we did butter on Thursday night at a demo as the customer really wanted to see it made. That is what sold her the machine in the end...so worth while to do it!! (if asked of course lol)
-
OH I LOVED the demo!! It was fabulous! I've signed up for the 9 months interest free and am tempted to become a demonstrator so as to pay the rest off without putting stress on our bank account.
My demonstrator reckons it would be about 5 machines sold to pay it off. Is that about right? Or would it be more?
Now I can't wait to get the phonecall from MyBuy so my order can be processed. :)
-
Yeah - 5 machines and you have no more to pay but 6 machines and you get all of your deposit back and don't end up paying a cent for it. But it was hard going for me and I only sold 5 - but I was happy with only paying about $350 all up! ;)
-
Nay-Nay, I've taken up the 9 months interest free so no deposit. I figure if I use the machine and get used to it, if I do choose to demo it, I should be a full bottle by then.
-
OK. Now I REALLY need some help. DH is less than happy that I've nearly gone through with the interest free thingy. Totally oblivious to how I NEED it. Can you give me the lines you used on your partners to convince them that it is a good investment?
I'm tempted to just do it and sod him but I figure for my marriage I best come up with some reasonings.
I figure the money I've already saved the family by clothing us exclusively on Op shop clothes the last year (yes I've not bought ONE thing new, other than undies, socks and bras oh and shoes), I already make my own bread, tomato sauces, sew clothing for the kids too, make other things to see at the markets. What else do I have to do to save this family money??!!! Jeepers!
Bring on your lines please!
-
(The next morning after the demo)
DH: don't tell me???... ???
Me: I bought it ;D
DH: knew you would! :-))
Me: yep, done deal ;D
Now he can't stop telling all his friends how good it is (but he can't help himself, he still thinks that it is too expensive). But what price do you put on being motivated to cook, good food, and good health. Did I mention good wife who might chuck a wobbly if she doesn't get to have a treat every once in a while ;D ;D ;D (joke... ;) not). I think I can justify the price because it really is a well used appliance.
-
Did he actually get to see what it did?? Did you tell him it is totally made in France designed in Germany? Did you tell him it goes at top speed 10200revs! Faster than a race car! Has he tasted sorbet?? You really can't do that in 1 minute in any other machine. Did you tell him your going to get things done sooo much faster, be less stressed and have more time to spend with him? ;) If all else fails I find forgiveness comes easier than permission - awww naughty!! ;) :D ;D
-
Awww creampuff your too quick!!
-
Oh - and I always find this line of reasoning works - I say to hubby:
"So when you have to put up a fence do you go out dig every hole by hand, cut the posts out of a tree with an axe, hand drill all the holes, thread each bit of wire through by hand???? Noooo - technology has made your job easier - now let me have the same deal!!!"
I got my dishwasher 11 years ago by coming up with that! ;)
-
Nay Nay - you're clever! Thats way too much thinking for me, I think DH would just be overley flabbergasted with all that rationalisation and he would be utterly speechless (rendering him incapable of any further refusal) :D
-
URgh. Don't even get me started with the dishwasher. :-))
I ended up having to just go and buy it so I think this will be the same thing. The thing that irks me the most is that we can spend $30k+ on a shed and tools for him, plus tyres for his car oh and don't forget a new outboard for the dinghy (his excuse for that one was that I'll be eating the crayfish!)... Yet I'm stil reap the rewards of any of the tools. I do have an outdoor table from it but even that was like pulling teeth.
Sigh... I think I'm going to just have to put up with his wrath for a bit and win him back through his guts.
Thanks for the suggestions. Feel free to post more. More ammo would be great!
-
Remind him that it will save you money on your food bill and then once it has paid for it's self that way (approx within a year) it will then continue to make you money as you will STILL be saving on your food bill ;D
-
I use the price of a new TV as a comparison. What does a TV give you? Nothing but something to entertain the mind. Not necessary. But most (including us) barely think twice about replacing the TV when it blows up. It's entrenched in our culture.
What does a thermomix give you? Fantastic food, faster, healthier, avoid all the additives and nasties. Saves money on takeaway, as meals can be so quick.
It's definitely a psychological thing. Us Aussies are just used to having a TV and can't imagine life without one.
-
did he see it in action? most men are begging to have it immediately after that lol
-
Usually DH are impressed if they see the demo. Are there any other consultants up there? If not you could do well selling them.
Wait until he tastes sorbet after a hot day at work.
I know of one DH who was impressed that his wife could sit and chat with him when he got home from work as the meal was cooking in the TMX.
Good luck.
-
He'll be fine...once he sees that you use it! My DHs main concern was that it was going to collect dust in the cupboard/shelf. He is NOT into cooking at all, so at first he really wasnt a happy bunny that all that money was going on a kitchen gadget, but hey almost a year later .......he realises how much it helps me, I work, have 3 kids that eat at home (only 1 has school lunches) and now we hardly ever eat out as the whole family prefers my THX cooking, so we have saved an absolute fortune over the year, plus another bonus he has lost 10 kilos (all his beer belly) and I have finally got my figure back too! The kids love helping and making things and we all now cook and bake and take dishes with us wherever we go! Home always smells of baking bread/biscuits/gourmet meals and we all look and feel healthier. Once he sees it in action, he will be fine!
-
It's been many, many years since I left my last husband but I was never hesitant about buying whatever I wanted for my kitchen. I worked a regular job and was raising his kids so felt entitled to what I felt would make my life easier.
He liked to "run up to Vegas" with his pals on some weekends (was on an allowance!) and every time he did, I would buy something for me!
The intervals between LV trips became longer and longer...eventually stopped! ;D
One trip resulted in my purchase of a Garland commercial range - 8 burners, two oversized ovens and a large flat grill (griddle).
Another coincided with my purchase of my first Cuisinart/Robot chef.
Another with a second dishwasher because one was not enough. (He was a building contractor so no problem in reconfiguring the kitchen and installing it.)
And one trip, four days prior to our anniversary, resulted in my purchase of the largest consumer side-by-side refrigerator ever manufactured in the U.S. - the Kelvinator 32 cubic foot Food-A-Rama.
I think that was the last time he made the trip with his buddies.
I never cared for the place - my second husband spent a lot of time working there as he had clients there that required his presence fairly often. In the beginning I traveled with him as I did not work full time then but it all got rather boring after a while. I didn't gamble and there wasn't much else to do there once one had exhausted the sight-seeing in surrounding areas.
Such things have to balance out. Big boys with their big toys have to understand that their women should have equal access to fun stuff!
-
Personally, I wouldn't go ahead with it if DH was unhappy. I'd wait until he came around (happens relatively often). But - the average family recoups the money invested within 12 months. The machines themselves last indefinitely, not uncommonly passing from mother to daughter. If you become a demonstrator you'll recoup the money twice over (something I realised that I've done in the last 12 months - got the money back once in savings, and then again in sales).
And the food is more adventourous (sorry, having a brain block on the spelling), meaning that you're turning out more of better quality, which increases the quality of life for the family as a whole - eating like kings, but on a small budget.
Additives, etc, are also out of the door, and the nutritional value is much higher, meaning that the family health is better (something which has been very noticeable in our family over the last 10 months).
Personally, I've found that I also recoup grocery money, as many friends (at church, etc) want to buy jams, sweet chilli sauce, etc, etc from me once they've tasted what I've made. That means that I can often make a batch which doesn't actually cost us anything, as the cost of the ingredients are covered. I could probably make a profit if I wanted to, but I don't - I'm just thrilled to cover our costs so that these things were effectively free for us, and at the same time my friend was thrilled to have something much healthier and much tastier for the same price she would have bought something bog standard at the supermarket.
If I wanted to go into it as a business, I could, as both our chiropractor and health food shop have said they would like to stock and sell food made by me in the thermomix - but I don't want a business. But it might be something that you'd like to do?
Hope these points help.
-
andiesenji you are my kind of gal ;D ;D ;D ;D
Gretchen
-
I'm with you on that one Gretchen ;) ;) My first husband was always buying new guitars and records (in the 70's) whilst I had to scrimp and save just to survive the week with the pittance he gave me for housekeeping. Solution there was to get a job myself and buy whatever I wanted - only trouble is I was stupid enough to buy things for him too (never anything related to music though, more like electric tools so he could fix things around the house!). Once you earn your own money, can't see why you can't spend it the way you want. Current DH (and last) is totally the opposite - no problem with having anything I want and I knew when I went to the TMX demo that I didn't have to wait until I spoke to him before I could order one.
If you are happily married Vermins, I wouldn't upset the apple cart by going against his wishes but have another demo at night when he can attend and see for himself how great the machine is. Could you put it on your birthday/Christmas list for the next 10 years maybe - that's only $100 being spent on a birthday & Christmas present over a 10 year period, maybe that will appeal to him.
-
OK. So we're not getting one yet. :( I DID say YET.
Turns out that now DH knows I actually want something (I have to admit, I'm a woman easily satisfied and don't have all that many needs or wants), he'll get me one when we can afford it. I hand it to him. I'm over emotional at the moment (curses of being a woman hey?!) and the fact he said if we had $2k, he'd buy me one. <3
So while I'm not going to be a TMX owner just yet, hopefully he'll be able to do a cashie to get me one soon. :)

I know a few ladies (some now customers) who kept a diary of everything they cook each day (or purchase ready made) and mark against it if they could do it in the Thermomix to help justify their purchase.
You could ask your consultant for "A guide on savings" which shows some price comparisions on making things yourself vs purchasing. They say most homes save at least $40 a week, other families report $200 (but they ate alot of processed and takeaway foods).
Use the old saying "Happy Wife = Happy Life".
Go on strike
The interest free plan is amazing. If you can afford $220/month you can have it paid off with no interest! As CarolneW suggested, you could sell some goodies too to put towards the price.
-
I am glad to hear that 'the vermins'. I had been thinking about you and thought if money is tight it may be a good idea to wait awhile. Perhaps you could try and put aside a little money a week (could be hard at this time of the year) and then after 6-12 months show your DH what you have saved and have another discussion re the thermomix. Perhaps even involve him in the saving. A little each week will add up to quite a lot.
If you have a read of the discussion on Taste.com.au and look under ingredients and equipment in the thermomix thread you will see that quite a few people can't manage one straight up and are saving, little by little.
I'm pleased to read that you and your DH sorted it out. A happy marriage is a rarity these days, hang on to it.
-
Love some of the stories - and JD's comment about her second DH being her last !!!!
For those overseas - the interest rates went up in Australia for the third time in as many months !!!!!
Business is very slow for me at present and now there is more bloody interest to pay and I am with Westpac who increased the mortgage rate by twice what the Reserve Bank increased official interest. So, possibly not a good time to push it - even with the 9 months interest-free deal.
BUT, if he buys something for the shed ............ :o :o :o >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
My husband has a bit of a lead foot (although according to him he doesn't speed "at all") and as the speeding fines were coming in on a regular basis, I decided to match them basically dollar for dollar and bought my self a lovely set of saucepans and frypan and le Cruesets casseroles (in all sizes and shapes). I always look at these with such fond memories, and think how smart I am to at least have something to show for my money.
Aside from that, the old saying is true: "All good things come to those who wait". It really does. Even though you may have to wait longer than you wanted to. You also appreciate them more, and the purchase seems to work out better and fall into place just at the right time. If you really want one, you'll get it...but at the right time for you.

Absolutely.
Glad to hear that DH is backing you on this - you'll get there eventually. I waited a year for mine (mainly because I was worried about the money, to be honest. DH was ready to get me one after 2-3 months) but it was well worth the wait.
Looking forward to the day that we hear you've got one :)
-
Thanks girls.
I'm over my little hissy fit I had.
Yes I was ever so pleased to hear him say if he had the money he'd get me one. :) Didn't hit me until he'd said it a second time. Then I realised I was being silly and to just wait.
While I"m absolutely HANGING out for one, I suppose I can wait a bit longer... Sigh...
-
I hope that you can find some money to put away each week to bring that Thermomix ownership even closer... Do you have anything that you don't need that you could sell on eBay?
Kids, husband? ;D ;D
-
I've got a 2 year old and a 3 year old! LOL!
I'm already on to the selling of stuff. I'm having a garage sale shortly to kick start things. I'd been planning that anyway.
Thanks for the support. I'll DEFNINTELY be celebrating when it does arrive!
-
Hey the Vermins! It took me all of 10 days to persuade my DH! He told me to go to the Demo, but said "dont you dare come back with one!" and he didnt even know the price then! :D :D
I just begged and pleaded, everytime he said something like, "oh babes, that salad was nice!" I would answer him with "would be healthier with THX!" or he'd say "don't you fancy an ice-cream" & I would say something like "I could make you your favourite ice-cream every day!" and so on and on and on!!! ;D ;) ;D ;)
After 10 days, he just sighed and gave me the cash and said :-)) :-)) :-))" hmmmmmmf babes, if you really want it....go and get it!"
And although he complains that I spend far too much time in the kitchen (he would prefer me to spend my evenings on the sofa with him!) he has to admit that its worth every penny! We have honestly saved a fortune, we seem to have less waste, nothing gets thrown away ever! All fruit (that's getting past its better days!) gets frozen for sorbets or ice-cream, all veg gets knocked up into a soup in minutes, and we no longer eat any processed food. All in all, a HUGE saving, I can honestly say mine paid for itself in the first 3 to 4 months, just with my weekly shopping savings. Am I sure it won't take you long! Get a big money box and every spare $, put away! Good luck!
-
Well things have taken a turn for the better. :)
A job prospect of 2 or 3 days a week for next year has come up and hopefully I should hear about it tomorrow or the next day. Now all I've got to do is convince Dh that if I get the job, I can get the TMX and pay it off in January while the kids aren't in daycare. :) That's $300 a week we're saving so it can go towards something useful! :)
Now I just need ALL our fingers, legs and toes crossed that the job works out! I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hope so!
-
EVERYTHING is crossed tightly for you!! :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Good luck - here's hoping :-* :-*
-
Hope it all works out for you.
-
Let us know as soon as you know about the job won't you the Vermins. Wishing you all the luck in the world with the job then all you have to do is sit DH down and put your proposition to him.
-
Really hoping it all comes together for you!!! :-*
-
Everything crossed - and hoping for you.
-
I've got my fingers crossed for you and my toes!
-
Think positively, and get the space ready in the kitchen next to the power point... ;D
-
Thought I'd update. My intended garage sale for this weekend was put off due to 40C forecasts. NO WAY was I going to sit in the shed in stinking hot heat. So no money from that. :(
As for the job prospect? Well it's still that. I never ended up hearing from the principal so I was cheeky and rang him instead and asked about the job. He seemed pleased that I rang and it just so happened that he had a meeting about the position 1/2hr after he talked to me. That was Thursday so hopefully I will hear something this next week coming. It will be a miracle if I'm offered it but I sooo do hope so!
-
Keep up the positive vibes :-* :-* :-*
-
Well it's a no go. :( Position changed nothing available. :( And to add injury to insult, I applied for another position today and got a very quick call back only to have the boss say no within 2 minutes of talking to me. :(
Bugger bugger bugger. I must really stink and be totally unemployable. Damn I wish DH would let me buy the TMX so I could at least demonstrate it for some extra cash. Sigh...
-
Sorry to hear about all the bad news!! Dents the self esteem....
Have you looked into Option 4 to earn your Thermomix? I think it's a $600 deposit, and after you sell 6 in your first 60 days you get your TMX and your money back!
-
Bugger - still you have other options - think positive :-* :-* :-*
-
ILB, You gotta have $600 to spend though. :( I'll just have to suck it up and wait for the right job and just keep saving.
Patience is a virtue as they say...
-
Think positive, think positive!
Of course you are employable! The right job is waiting for you out there. Just imagine yourself with that perfect job, some income and a little savings account adding up in preparation for your TMX. :-*
-
As MJ said something will come along that is right for you. Think positive and we'll all cross our fingers and toes for you too.
-
Have you thought about getting a license for home child care? I'm sure that would go down well in Gero.
