Title: Greetings from the So.Calif. "High" desert.
Post by: andiesenji on November 11, 2009, 12:13:58 am
I ordered the Thermomix yesterday so have a few days to anticipate it.  I'm a life-long foodie (age 70) descended from a long line of recipe collectors and journal keepers as well as appliance junkies.
I have an extensive collection of early 20th century kitchen appliances, mixers, toasters, waffle irons, coffee makers and a few one-off items that never made it commercially.
Resurrecting old recipes and bringing them into the 21st century is a hobby and I like to prepare things that at one time were commonly made in the home but have fallen out of fashion.
From my investigations of the many blogs and forums detailing the uses to which the TMX has been put, I believe that it should be a terrific addition to my battery of kitchen necessities.
My home is just nine miles from where the space shuttle lands, and where there is a great deal of aircraft testing, so I am sure the noise will not bother me at all.

Wow. you sound like a real "Go getter" Congratulations on embarking on yet another food adventure. Maybe NASA will turn the tables & be contacting you about your noise levels once the TMX is in full swing!! A very warm welcome to our forum and hopefully we will see some of your old fashioned recipes converted to the TMX

My Bimby arrived today and I am reading the manual.  I am astonished at the rapidity of the shipping, especially since yesterday was a holiday (Veterans Day) and there was no mail delivery.  Even my mail carrier was surprised as he said packages from Canada are rarely shipped express.
Now I just have to decide on the "debut" dish....

Welcome and congratulations.  Good to see you investing in the space age while preserving the history of cooking - love you  :-* :-* :-*

Look forward to hearing more.

I made a stir-fry with a small amount of beef and a package of mixed vegetables I prepped and froze in August.

I have also made onion confit, similar to a posted recipe but no raisins.  I usually cook ten pounds of onions at a time and can them but wanted to try this smaller amount.  I also did not have to set up my mandoline to slice them, which is a huge effort.

The onions turned out beautifully.   I have a guest coming for lunch and will be combining them with shaved roast beef in a flour tortilla "wrap" - served with a Waldorf salad.

Great news Andiesenji! I am so pleased to hear you received such speedy service from the Canadian office!  ;) And I am glad to read about your early success. I have onion confit on my list to do this week-end. At the request of some friends I am going to resurrect my mother's best recipe. Oh DARN... I guess I'll have to bake some soft white bread for under the onions... oh and some home-made butter will be just the thing for in between...

Happy to see you on the forum.. I know you'll be plenty busy with your new toy, so remember to keep us ' inforumed' '  :-)) ;D :-)) ... of your culinary adventures!  ;)

Best wishes,
TMB

I've added an avatar - my high school graduation photo from 1956.  There have been a "few" changes.   :-))

Welcome andiesenji, would love to know what these one-off items are, any chance of a picture or two and an explanation as to what they are used for?  You sound like a very interesting person, hope you have someone who will take over your collection and be as passionate about it as you are (not for another 30 or so years of course ;) ;))  Looking forward to seeing some of your converted recipes from the 'good old days' - comfort food at its best.

Great idea - but my photo was of somebody who looked a bit like Michael Jackson with white skin - I didn't have so much forehead in those days, and my dark curly hair did get a bit afro

BTW - love your signature too !
