Title: I've dinged me rim!
Post by: Harmony on September 29, 2009, 04:18:26 pm
My TMX has been leaking when I've had large volumes of liquid at high speeds  ??? Not disastrous, just a bit messy and annoying. Checked the seal over and over. Noticed, finally, that the rim of the bowl is slightly dented  :-[ I'm clumsy, I drop the poor thing regularly. Obviously on just the wrong spot a while ago  :-))

Any advice? Hubby normally volunteers to fix such things but hasn't at this stage  8)

Bugger - it may pay to try getting a new lid seal to start.  I was amazed how loose the seal had become when I purchased a new one.

Can hubbie do any panel beating?

Have you got accidental loss or damage on your home contents insurance?
If so and your excess is only low eg $100 you could claim a new bowl.
I adjusted my policy so that it covers my TMX and other posessions like cameras if I drop it or it gets damaged when I fly with it.

Harmony, dropping the TMX would feel like dropping a baby to me ??? ??? I drop the MC quite often and it bounces everywhere but isn't that expensive to replace. The price of the bowl - well, that's a different matter. You say you are clumsy and have dropped it several times - maybe you need to slow down because you are going to have to replace it if it gets too many dents around the rim.  Not even a new seal will fix that problem.  I'm generally a bull-at-a-gate myself but not when it comes to my TMX - I treat it with kid gloves.  Hope you can fix the problem without having to buy another bowl.

Harmony, I have done the same to mine multiple times. I have just molded it back into shape as best as i can. I have never had any problems with it leaking though. Even the smallest of splits in the seal can make a difference so might be worth replacing. They are about $25.

Thanks for the replies, I'll get DH to bend it back. I don't think our contents insurance covers breakage and stuff, have to look into that when it's up for renewal. Slow...down? What does that mean??? I have 3 small children - any time I actually get to do something without 'help' I have to go very fast, or we wouldn't eat, YK?

Would love to live in a country where its common to have household help...cooking, cleaning, washing, making beds, looking after kids etc. Quite often I deal with overseas people who bring their hired help with them on holidays as I think they get quite dependant on them. Makes me think sometimes that Australia may not be the Lucky Country after all? lol

It will pay off when they're older and will say 'Mum I'll cook dinner tonight"
