Title: Lemon Meringue pie in EDC
Post by: tasbell on September 13, 2009, 01:46:59 pm
I made the Lemon Meringue pie from EDC today and when i got to the Meringue part it has 1/4 tsp of cream of tatar in the ingredients but it does not list it at all in the method.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I did add it to the egg whites at the start as i noticed another recipe i noticed added it then.

I noticed this today too, and did a search for a thread. Just bumping in case any one else is about to make it. :)

Other than the cream of tartar error in the EDC, this recipe is perfect. Nom.

How come some of you can post really big pictures & I can only get small one. What format is your in Carrie?  Maybe it's something to do with jpeg with mine.
The big pictures are SOOO much better than my little ones.  >:( >:(

I'm on to it. Have emailed Tenina with this error.

As to photos Jan, I use photobucket. Upload them to there and choose the size I want. Photobucket is free.

I've used Flickr, and then selected the medium sized pic.

Good work Carrie - just like my mum used to make.  I just wish there were more mouths to feed in our household.  Guess i could make smaller amounts?

I can truly appreciate that problem Thermomixer. It's not so much the meal, it's all the leftovers that someone HAS to eat.

I made this today, and it was FANTASTIC!!  I think my pastry could be better though.  Any tips?

I'd love some tips on the pastry too -  not so much the mixing it, but the blind baking of it.

The EDC is a bit bereft of instructions other than you cook it at 200 degrees...

Cheers,
Herbal

I posted a short crust pastry recipe that I use on my lemon meringue pie  http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3809.0  I find it tastes good (but I make it gluten free but the original recipe is "normal" so should work just as well if not better with normal flours)

That was the let down of mine too. I am wondering if this recipe might be better with a biscuit base?

Thanks,

Charde

I find that you need to use icy cold water to make good pastry. I place ice cubes in the water I'm going to use.
I also never knead pastry. Simply press it together lightly and roll it out.
Also, bread flour makes a better pastry than cake flour.

I really like the EDC Shortcrust Pastry.
