Title: Spiralizers
Post by: Cuilidh on March 11, 2017, 08:10:12 pm
I recall reading about spiralizers on here some time ago and am now tossing up getting one myself.

Can I ask, for those of you who have them, do you use them a lot or were they a short term craze?  Would you suggest it is a good idea to get one (that is, do you think they serve their purpose in your diet)?  If you had the choice, what would be a good type or model to get (not the 'pencil sharpener' type, though)?

Thanks everyone.

I only have the pencil sharpener type myself Marina and it does all I want albeit somewhat awkwardly. I did give my 2 girls a much more upmarket model some time back but have never asked if they use it or not.  Occasionally I make zoodles but not enough to warrant a more expensive model. I am a member of The Inspiralized Community on FB just to see what others do with that partcular gadget but nothing has taken my fancy yet so I just stick to doing zucchini at the moment.

I was given a free one with my Kitchen Aid. I've only used it once. I tend to use a thing like a vegie peeler with a corrugated blade. It's easy to wash up and is fine for the zoodles and a couple of other things I make.

I have the Kmart spiralizer and a pencil sharpener type. The Kmart one comes with a few different blades and IMO is much better than the pencil sharpener one. It only cost $15 which was great, so that if it ends up being a 'craze' I haven't wasted a lot of money. I usually use it when we have pasta and we do 50/50 pasta/zoodles.
