Title: Such excitement!
Post by: Sim on September 03, 2009, 11:56:12 am
Hello all!

We are currently in the process of ordering a thermomix! I think the order should go through tomorrow (our rep is away at the moment). I can't wait! How long does it usually take to arrive? I am located in Canberra, Aust.

I live and breathe food, and love creating new recipes, so I will be sure to let you all know when I discover new flavour combinations.

I have been browsing the recipes here and I am pretty keen to give some a go. My friends and family think I am slightly insane for purchasing such an extravagant kitchen appliance, and I did too at first. Then I started making the comparison to the amount people spend on washing machines, and dish washers. The cost $1000's but people don't think twice about them! I am holding a demonstration at my house soonish, and I think it is going to be hilarious. The only reason I say that is, because the people I am forcing to attend are all around my age (23!) and don't care for cooking, so I will have much fun ranting and raving to them about how great Thermomix's are.

Can anybody tell me if you can make icecream by making the custard ect, then freezing it, then blending it again in the thermomix? Or does this damage the structure of the icecream?

Welcome Sim!
What an exciting time for you! Congratulations!! We make icecream that way, and usually freeze, blend, freeze, blend etc a few times to get it creamier and fluffier.

Welcome Sim and age is no barrier....you never know the Thermomix might actually inspire some of your friends to become cooks in their kitchen once they have seen it in action  ;) ;)  Look forward to seeing your posts.

Hey welcome Sim. Definitely age is no barrier - the TMX is perfect for everyone. When we got ours 6 months ago my daughter couldn't even boil an egg -- now she is a star in the kitchen, and invites her friends over for lunches, dinner, snacks etc  Just turned 21 and has signed up to become a TM consultant.  ;D

Hi Sim and nice to meet you.

I have also recently purchased a TMX.  I ordered it on the 5th August, it left Melbourne on the 12th & I received it on the 17th.  (I am not sure when my consultant actually placed my order with HO though).  I am in North Queensland, so I imagine the Melbourne to Canberra delivery would be much quicker.

I love testing out the recipes on this forum & can't wait to see what you come up with  :)

Welcome - no problems about the icecream from custard.  The m ore it gets blitzed, the less likely you are to have ice crystals and poor texture.

Hi & welcome Sim.  I haven't made a lot of ice-cream but intend doing so this coming summer.  Here are 2 links using frozen custard - may give you some ideas/method.

Welcome Sim. AS others have said age is no barrier, I dragged my DD along to a Back to Basics course and she was surprised to see a girl she had gone to uni with there. She was already the proud owner of a TMX.
Icecream using the TMX is delicious. So are the lovely sorbets you can make at the drop of a hat.

Welcome Sim. The strawberries are a ripening here in Queensland so my strawberry ice cream is luscious. I always use whole eggs and that seems to make it a tad smoother for some reason. Next will be the mangoes I see getting bigger on my tree by the minute. Enjoy the forum.

Everyone is telling us about their lovely ice-creams and it would be nice if we had a separate section, just for them to post their complete recipes in.  Can you all please post full recipe/instructions for your favourite ice-creams and then maybe the moderators will start a new thread for them.  ;) ;) :-* :-*

Ok Judy I will post my strawberry ice cream in the desserts. Be warned that I am just a "try it and see if it works" sort of cook. Win some lose some. Lucky my husband will eat anything!

I am a "try it and see if it works" sort of cook too - and fortunately MrsT will try most things - used to eat everything when we first met  :D - but now she's comfortable saying that she doesn't like some foods  ;D  :o ;D   :-))  My staff are very hard to please  :(
