Title: Its no yolk
Post by: Decadent Dot on October 28, 2014, 07:43:11 am
Here I am once again with egg whites in the fridge and looking for recipes to use them up. :( I have 3 whites this time.) I have taken to adding a comment to a recipe to  identify other recipes that only need yolks or whites and not the whole eggs.

I freeze my egg whites DD. I put one in a snap lock back and freeze it. They seem as good as fresh when used.

That is a great idea Cookie1. I am surprised that I had never thought of it. :o Now how about left over yolks. Do they freeze too.?

They say that they do, but I don't really like them after freezing.

Kimmyh has posted a recipe for a Mexican beef slice that uses 2 egg yolks, as well as a whole egg.  It is really delicious!

I freeze all my leftover egg whites and they defrost perfectly. I find egg yolks go a little funny, but i think there might be a trick to freezing them, maybe google will help.

That's what I thought too.
The yolks need a pinch of salt or sugar beaten in (depending on whether they'll be used for sweet or savoury dishes later).

Hi Gertsea,
I am currently arranging a demo of TM5 for this coming friday.  My TM31 is in such good order and has a second bowl so I am hesitating to buy the TM5. Mostly I know that I will still end up looking at my tablet for my familiar and personal recipes.  I have decided to have a demo of the TM5 and make my decision when I have seen the newcomer for myself.
Thank you girls for asking after me. I know that I have been off forum for ages. Just to catch up, I beat the cancer (well as much as one does) and I moved house. I have helped my daughter through a heart operation. Can I just tell you a little about this. She had a heart attack going into the theatre so the surgeon unceremoniously quickly got into her chest and with his hand round her heart (Inca style) and tried to bring it back. After 6 minutes and thinking of brain damage he called it and pronounced death. Suddenly and on it's own her heart started up again and she is now as bright as she ever was. It just shows how near you can come. :o and currently I am up against a heart condition myself so none of it has been good. I am hoping for a little respite from the health thing but meanwhile I am trying to eat more healthily  from the Thermie of course.  ;)

So happy that you are till with us Dot but sorry about your other health issues both for you and your DD. That certainly was an interesting event that turned out well. She was in good hands. .

I did the demo too and was impressed with the new features but to be honest I am not in love with it yet. It is slowing me down with the lid locking and having to set  everything but it will no doubt grow on me with use.

Be interested to know what you think .

Cheers

Wow, DD, that is indeed no yolk! What a scary thing to happen! So glad everything has worked out and hope that it continues to do so for you.

I had a TM5 demo fully expecting to think I didn't need it. i fell in love with it immediately as did my sister who was most determined not to love it at all!! I'm really loving it and using it multiple times a day. Love the recipe chip especially, something I thought I wouldn't like at all.

Re the egg whites. I often find I have left overs too. I forget about them and they lurk in my fridge. Friends is a good suggestion. Egg yolks can be kept in the fridge for a while if you put them in water, apparently.

DD,  good to hear from you. Glad things have improved on the health front.
Yolks don't freeze as well as whites even with the salt or sugar added.  I have found it easier to just add them to something else I am cooking. Also mix with a little water and glaze bread.
