DH and I will be spending 3 weeks in Tasmania, I wondered if any of our Tasmanian friends could tell us the "not to be missed" places only a local knows, to visit.
We have hired a car and plan to finish in Hobart for the Forumfest. Any ideas appreciated.

The east coast of Tassie is absolutely beautiful. My very favorite place growing up was Coles Bay, my grandparents owned a shack there and we spent every school holiday there. Actually my brother and I would spend hours and hours fishing off the jetty (probably how I got skin cancer) oh well still have fond memories there.

I haven't visited Tassie for a few years but we did visit a hydro power station on one visit and were very impressed. I don't know if you can still do it. Also Strahan and a cruise down the Gordon River ( if you can still do it) also Queenstown. We have been to Port Arthur a couple of times but not sure if I could do it now.
I'll look forward to all the suggestions.

Coles Bay, Bicheno, St Helens, Binalong Bay and Bay of fires all along the east coast.
-
Thanks Mandi and Jean, I look forwarding to sharing our adventures when we catch up.
-
MONA in Hobart, wine trek around the Tamar Valley, wonderful walks around the west coast and Tarkine, boat trip up the Franklin River from Strahan.
-
Thanks Fiona, definitely doing MONA after the Forumfest before we head home.
-
Port Arthur is really interesting but eerie at the same time knowing what happened there with the shootings.
-
Cradle mountain and Mole creek caves
-
Strahan on the west coast where you can can to a cruise down the Gordon river, or a sea plan which DH and I did a few years ago.
Coles bay is a favorite we spent many a holiday there camping and you can walk over to Wineglass bay bit of a climb but well worth it.
Cradle mountain, a walk around dove lake.
Port Arthur there is lots to see on the way down there is the blow hole, devils kitchen, just to name a few.
The view from the top Mount wellington is stunning but rug up very windy and cold.
A visit to the Cadbury factory just out of Hobart.
Visit Cataract Gorge in Launceston.
Bruny island and a trip down the houn valley, a bit further on is hasting caves.

Thanks Jen, I have downloaded a wonderful app with lots of short walks.

Don't forget the scallop pies.......yum.

I support all Jeninwa's suggestions. There is certainly a lot to see on the way to Port Arthur on EagleHawk neck I think it is called. Mole Creek caves are an amazing experience. The Cadbury factory is ....yum,
I would love to try a scallop pie.

Denise we are also heading to Tassie for a couple of weeks before the Forumfest.
Richard has been to Tassie before, but I haven't. We are flying in to Launceston and hiring a car. We're going to Ceorgetown, Cradle Mountain, Strahan, Queenstown, Huonville, Port Arthur and then onto Hobart.
We're doing a Gordon River Cruise, a West Coast Wilderness Railway tour, a day trip to Bruny Ilsand (we love Bruny Island Cheese), visiting a place near Cradle Mountain to see Tassie Devils and DH wants to do the Cascade and James Boag brewery tours. We'll also try and visit Mona whilst in Tassie. We are really looking forward to the break :)

We have had an amazing trip to beautiful Tassie so far.
We stayed 4 nights at The Clarion in Launceston ( a historical old Dame, with our room on the top floor and no lift!) from here we explored St Helens, St Mary's , Ben Lomond, Deloraine, Evandale and Burnie and more.
We then went to Bicheno for one night and did the wineglass beach cruise, spending 20 minutes enjoying the playful humpback whale.
We spent 4 nights in a quaint cottage( pooh cottage) in Bothwell, exploring the Great Lakes and surrounds. It was set on 1/2 acre with a creek running at the back.
We are in Strahen ( last night tonight) having spent 4 nights, we thoroughly enjoyed the Gordon River cruise, Cradle mountain was amazing- Tassie does the short walk so well- love all the boardwalks , the train trip in the wilderness carriage was great and with bubbles on arrival and food presented all the way, very enjoyable.
We have caught a glimpse of 2 platypus, seen 4 wombats and 2 echidnas and our whale of course.
No idea where we are going for the next 2 nights, I guess at a push we could sleep in our Passat!
Anyway thanks for all your ideas and so looking forward to our last week in Hobart with you all.

It all sounds wonderful Denise, you obviously haven't bumped into Katie and Richard on your travels.
-
Not yet Judy, but we are both in Strahen today, how funny!
-
Sounds like we've been doing similar things Denise.
We stayed 3 nights just outside of Launceston at George Town and we travelled around quite a bit to lots of small towns, as well as checking out Launceston. We then stayed a night in a wood cabin at Cradle Mountain which was lovely. The high light was a night time Tassie Devil feeding tour. Cradle Mountain national park was lovely and I surprised myself making it around Dove lake.
Strachan has been great too. We are heading to Huonville, Port Arthur then onto Hobart.
