Title: Yeast pkt
Post by: Chellerin on September 03, 2014, 02:28:05 am
Me again with the questions! I'm making bread for the 1st time.. I was only required to use 1/2  the pkt of yeast. Will it keep or do I throw it out?

It pays to keep your dried yeast in the freezer Chelle.  I buy a big container of it and do just that as many others do.

Can't do it any harm and it will ensure it stays fresh Chelle.

I do exactly as Judy does. I buy a large container and it sits in the freezer. I don't have to worry about the use by date. (not that it lasts very long as I make a lot of bread) You don't need to worry about the fact that it is cold either. Make sure your fold the packet over and seal it.
Let us know how the bread goes.

If you are making a couple of loaves you might like to seal the packet by folding it over to exclude all air.  Depends how big the yeast packet is and how often you are going to make bread.
Freeze it to be on the safe side although I don't do this.
