Katie & I went to this tonight out at Mawson Lakes. Different from a cooking class in that although Dani did cook a few dishes from her In The Mix cookbooks (not all for tasting), the focus was more on her story telling ability. Interesting and humorous stories of the things that went on behind the scenes whilst producing her books along with the joys and challenges of working with some of the world's best chefs. Dani tells great stories, is very animated and we had many laughs - a lovely lady.
She demonstrated Beef rotolo, Chilli lime crumb, sardine rillettes, strawberry gazpacho & tomato and chevre salad, white chocolate & cumin crisps and freeform cheesecake.
We had tastings of sardine rillettes, chilli cherry ripe, strawberry gazpacho and white chocolate & cumin crisps. I think Katie & I were the only ones to have a sample taste of the freeform cheesecake from the display table and not the tasting table ;D I must make that, it was really nice.
We both enjoyed the 2 hour seminar along with 150 other people. I believe the previous one the night before at Glenelg had even more people so the organisers must be very happy with these results.

Sounded a great evening Judy. ;D

It was a great evening, Dani is so lovely. Having her cook some of the recipes and explain many others really made us realise
that the recipes aren't as hard or time consuming as they may appear. Many recipes have several elements and you can just cook one or two of the parts and don't always have to do the whole recipe.
I'm going to get the books out and have another look at what I can make.
As for sneaking a taste from the display cheesecake - Judy made me do it!

That's quite true, Katie did take some prompting before she gave in and had a little taste :D
-
It was delicious though, probably the nicest thing I tasted on the night.
Very easy to make and the freeform idea is a new one for me. Will have to make it myself soon.
-
I wasn't able to go to this:(
Glad it was good.
Dani Valent's cook books are some of my favourites.
Thanks for the review.
-
Judy and Katie is sounds lovely. If and when she comes here again I will try and go after your review.

I see dani is doing a seminar in Chatswood on 19 June. So I'm glad you have just given us this review because I'm weighing up whether or not to go but it sounds like you ladies really enjoyed it.
I'm going to have to try and find the recipe for the free form cheesecake now 😊
-
Thanks for the update Judy & Katie. Glad you had a good evening.

Me too Cookie, I saw it advertised and didn't like the sound of it being so big. Next time!

The lady on the right hand side is Monika, she is the lovely lady who brings me all the TMX books for our competitions.
-
I've got both books and haven't cooked anything from them. I really don't know what it is about them... Perhaps I should bring them back out for another look :-\
-
The seminar would have made you want to do that CP.
-
Sounds like fun, Judy and Katie 😄
What is free form cheesecake, girls? So curious now...and no time for Mr Google
-
It's just the filling, you form it onto a plate and scatter fruit etc over the top. Katie and I would put it into individual glasses rather than make 1 big one. There are only 3 or 4 ingredients in the cheesecake.

Here's a photo I found on FB (can't remember if it was Dani's page or HO page).
It's decorated with raspberries, fresh rose petals and Persian fairy floss.
-
Gorgeous! Thanks Katie 😄
-
Thanks Katie. I tried the rose petals too girls but, not for me. Loved the Persian fairy floss though
-
It looks an interesting recipe. Not sure if it would go down well here :-\
-
That looks gorgeous Katie - is it rose flavoured or are the petals just decoration?
-
No the cheesecake isn't rose flavoured, the petals were just for decoration.
The cheesecake is made from cream cheese, eggs, sugar and vanilla.
-
So that's 4 ingredients, I've altered my posting - thanks Katie.
-
It's a lovely idea. I only have Dani's first book but haven't made much from it.
-
The vanilla is optional Judy, so 3 ingredients is still correct.
I'd love to make it, but worried I'd eat it all.
-
Oh my that cheesecake looks amazing.
