Title: Can you recommend a hand mixer
Post by: snappy on May 16, 2014, 12:06:26 pm
Despite many attempts over the last 3 years I have had no success in beating egg whites in the TMX.  I love my TMX but whipping egg whites for pavlovas is definitely not something it's good at!

I know the stand mixers are great but I don't have the bench space and I only want to use it for beating egg whites.  So can anyone give me any reviews for the hand mixers - Kitchenaid, Kenwood, cuisinart?

I'd buy any cheap and cheerful hand beater. For the amount of times you'd want to use it, it isn't worth buying an expensive one. I have a cheapie and it has lasted years......  Only used for occasional egg whites or cream (DD uses it for this).

I had a Sunbeam hand held mixer that latest for about 40 years. I replaced it with another Sunbeam. They don't get a lot of use so I would agree with Bonsai.

I have a moulinex stick blender with a whisk attachment that whips nicely. I think breville do one now too. I've had the moulinex for about eight years and its not faultered although I haven't used it much since thermomix arrived a couple of years ago.

Good luck in your search.

I have an old brown and cream coloured Sunbeam too. You could probably pick-up a second hand one at a garage sale or gumtree for next to nothing.

I have a cheap and nasty Tiffany one that works brilliantly. Not sure you can buy that brand anymore but it's had a rough life, been dropped a few times and is still going strong. Of course if you use a whisk snappy, you get a muscle work out too 😉😘😀

Thank you.  I was wondering whether the 'big name' brands would be better but it sounds like the cheap and cheerful ones do just as good a job.  Can now save myself over $100. 😃😃😃😀

Got to be happy with that!
