For some reason, out of sheer curiosity, I have just flicked back to my very first posting and the welcoming messages on there from forum members.
In Judy's welcome she said "You will love it here and soon become friends with people all over the world so get ready for the time of your life." and she was so right.
When I joined there were fewer than 4,000 members I think, so not as many posts back then for new members as there are now, but Judy's words were so true.
Of those who welcomed me, so far, I have personally met Judy, Chookie, and CC. I will soon meet CP and, although I have yet to meet Gert and Cookie I consider them also to be firm friends.
Since then, many more people have joined the forum and I have been lucky enough to meet some of you. I just want to say thank you to you all for your friendship and support. This really is a very special forum. Long may it grow and prosper.

It is a special forum indeed, made up of very generous, encouraging and talented members 😄😃
-
It is interesting reading some of the early postings Marina. Thanks for the little trip down memory lane and whoever would have known we were all going to meet in person so many lovely people when we joined.
-
Forums are wonderful places :)
-
This forum is very special.I was extremely lucky to have met many forum friends in Oz last year.
-
True words Marina, when I joined I had this amazing group of friends at my fingertips, it helped me through a lot of hours on my own, now I have a new man in my life I don't come on so often but love catching up with everyone. It's a great forum with lovely people.
-
I love popping in here every morning with my first coffee of the day and catching up on what everyone is doing/cooking.
I have learned to bring a cloth with me now as a few times I have spat the coffee all over the computer screen when someone has said something funny! ;D (Gert has made me do it more than once!!)
I love that it is a group of people, who are friends, and even though we may have a sling off at each other once in a while, the rest of the time is very supportive. And friendly. And there is so much to learn from in here ;D
Love it! Great thread Marina ;D
Thank you everyone :-* :D :D

Yes Marina, i was only thinking yesterday how for me it is a friendship group rather than just a support for thermomix. There is always someone with knowlege to help, or a meal idea and a cheery message. I too have had the good fortune to meet some of you in person and all are as generous of spirit in person.
-
I'm glad to hear that you and your new man are still going strong AB.
-
A lovely history Marina. I think I was number 90 when I joined. It is indeed a group of friends.
To think of the lovely new friends I have made through the forum is amazing. I was trying to explain at Tenina's class last night what the forum was to a lady I met. I think she may have thought I was loopy telling her that we meet each other for coffee and when possible some people travel interstate to have a weekend together. I probably scared her off joining. ;D
Last week in Dymocks I had a lady call me a member of 'that cult'. She was looking at thermomix books and I said both books she was looking at were very good. A thing I have often done in book shops. She looked at me as though I had two heads and responded, " are you a member of THAT cult?" I was too gobsmacked to reply. Then thought it was very funny.
-
It is sad that that sort of attitude prevails, Cookie, I'm just thankful that this is the forum that I am a member of. If others wish to be bitter and twisted and denigrate the forum, well that is, quite simply, their loss.
-
it is great that there have been so many meet ups, and so friendly.. :) :) :) :)
-
Cookie I love being part of THIS cult :)
I'm cooking more varied dishes because of our forum. More than my friend who first exposed me to thermomix :D
-
I've found that too BZB. Friends who aren't on here don't use their machine for as many things as we all do.
-
I have learnt a great deal from forum members and saved myself a great deal of time and trouble by following their advice. I would never have tried sourdough, yogurt, homemade cheese, butter and many other things if it wasn't for the encouragement and knowledge that is shared on the forum. I also love that everyone is so friendly and accepting - never a nasty word or bad behavior - I'm sure we all gain so much from participating
-
Too true, Bonsai. Some forums can turn nasty. People argue and insist on their freedom of expression, blah, blah blah. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth for everyone else.
-
I love this cult. ;D
What other cult has great food, friends, conversations and laughs.
They have no idea what they are missing out on.
Their loss - our gain ;D ;D

I joined in Feb 2009. Hard to believe how in 5years how my life has changed for the better. New friendships, new ideas, new recipes and so much fun without even leaving the house. So nice to always be connected to someone . Meeting other member is such an added bonus. I can't wait untill October to meet more of ya!

When I joined this
forum cult (seriously???) way back in May 2011 I was very cautious about forums. DH loves to remind me that when he travelled to the other side of Sydney to meet some members in a musician's forum, I half jokingly told him it was a long way to go to meet a few potential axe murderers :D You can imagine his face when I told him I was meeting a bunch of tmx forum members in Adelaide ;D. I have yet to soften him up for the Hobart trip.
-
This is indeed a lovely place to be. With lots of good advice and lovely people, well most of you anyway :D :D
-
Ditto to what has been said, love this forum and the things it/those part of it get me cooking. Know 100% I would not use my TM as much without you all. :-*
DH actually said last night "You make everything in the Thermomix now, where do you get all the ideas and recipes from?" :o Glad he hasn't noticed all the time I spend on here!! ;) ;D
-
It is such a friendly and welcoming forum. I've been privileged to meet many forum members and Cookie who so generously showed me around W.A. when I was there 18 months ago. It was lovely to meet you too Cuilidh in Melbourne last year. :D
-
When I first got my tmx I was also told this forum was a cult and luckily I didn't take any notice. I tried to join a couple of times but did something wrong and my application went out into space (lol) but eventually had another go and here I am. I had never been on a forum before or even gone on Facebook so it was a big step.
I would never have made so many wonderful meals and cakes without this wonderful support so it seams that at my age I am a member of a 'cult'. I now realise that being on here and meeting people is no different to having a penfriend we were children.
-
Ooh...I didn't know our forum was a cult within a cult. How cool is that? Hehe 😁
-
Very cool BZB ☺️☺️☺️
-
Too true, Bonsai. Some forums can turn nasty. People argue and insist on their freedom of expression, blah, blah blah. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth for everyone else.
I thought of this post yesterday when I heard a lady tell her son to "keep a civilized tongue in your head" ... civilized fingers on the keyboard sounds a bit funny tho! ;D
-
I love this forum and it's members. I was gathered in from cyber space by Judy. Didn't have a clue about TMX or computers. Thermomixer posted my first conversions, as I didn't know how. You have taught me so much and all provided some genuine entertainment as well as words of wisdom. This Forum is now very much a part of my life. Thank you all.
-
We had to haul you in Chookie, you were and still are a little gem :-* :-* :-*
How it all started was that Chookie sent me a pm which was obviously something she meant to post on the forum LOL. I wrote back and told her how to post on the forum, saw her blog had some nice recipes on it for the Thermomix so asked Thermomixer's help in transferring them over to the forum as I wasn't that savvy with computers myself - talk about the blind leading the blind :D We got there in the end, our computer skills have improved and what a great friendship grew out of that misguided posting of hers.
-
Well done, Judy 😄
-
I can't imagine the forum without Chookie's knowledge of bread. I have learned so much. I would even go so far as to call myself proficient in most bread making.( even Gayle's SC loaf now) I love SD, thanks to Chookie, it doesn't spook me anymore.
I think the proof of the wonders of the forum can be seen by the things we can make in our thermomixes compared to friends/others who have a thermomix but don't use the forum.
