My Thermomix is broken and will need repairing. I'm wondering what the average repair cost and timeframe is? I'd be sending it off from Canberra, and I'm fairly certain it will need significant work (happy to be wrong, but my husband thinks some of the bearings have "gone", and he's usually spot on with diagnostics...).
The budget is pretty tight this month, so I'm very keen to get some examples of repair costs...

Gert had a problem with her TM and posted her quote here VC.I can't think of anyone else.

Some repairs are simple, others more complicated VC Your machine is obviously out of warranty so give HO a call and have a word to them. It's a free call number so is a good starting point.

Thanks so much for the advice :) .
In case anybody else is in a similar situation, I'll report back ... I emailed my problem through to TMX central and they confirmed that I needed to send my machine in. They warned that it would involve courier charges each way and a minimum $33 for a quote, then sent me packing instructions and asked me to let them know when my TMX was ready for collection.
A lovely friend who is a consultant was kind enough to drop off an original box with foam padding, so that was simple.
The courier picked up on a Friday, I had a call from TMX on the Wednesday to say that I needed a new motor and a new bowl base. I gave the go ahead and my credit card number immediately to authorise a $289 repair, and my machine was delivered back on the Thursday (actually Friday as I missed the first delivery :'( ) .
It's fabulous to have my TMX working smoothly again - I hadn't realised how noisy it has been!
Unfortunately I now have to call and order a replacement top tray for my Varoma, but I am now fully confident that TMX will be very helpful about it!
Really, I couldn't have asked for better service :) .

Sounds like a good outcome.

Happy you have it back working better than ever VC. HO are good with repairs.

Good to hear your TM is back and working VC.

This is really good news and not too expensive either. Well done HO.

My TMX is having issues as well - errors 31 and 52 when opening the lid. I'm very sad about it.
I rang HO and spoke to a very helpful man who has arranged for me to drop it off tomorrow to the local SA repairer. I was told I'd hear from HO early next week with what is wrong, how much it will cost etc. I'm hoping to be able to pick it up next Friday. I was quoted $66 minimum for a quote.
I'm not looking forward to not having it for a week.

I had a 55 this morning Katie but only when I wanted to weigh something. I followed the advice in the manual but that didn't work so I just turned it off for a minute or so and it worked OK after that. Do you still have to pay the quote if you go ahead with the repairs which of course you will be doing no doubt.

Not sure Judy, guess I'll find out!
Turning my TMX off at the wall would reset it and I could keep using it, but as I had the errors a few times I thought it best to get it sorted before it got any worse.
-
Katie I hope it is repaired quickly for you.
-
Katie, i hope it isnt anything too serious and back to you quickly.
-
Oh no Katie! I hope you get your TM back soon :-*

My TMX is back home and back in its place on the kitchen bench. Life is good again! We missed it.
I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it will be working well.
All in all, I'm very happy with the whole experience. The service dept at HO was very friendly and helpful. The SA repairer was also friendly and very helpful, he even delivered my TMX back to me at work.
The speed dial and locking mechanism have been adjusted, so hopefully that will solve the errors on opening the lid. It was also given a full internal clean and the scales recalibrated. It only cost the $66 labour charge I was originally quoted.

Good outcome Katie.

Just before I went overseas last year I stupidly put the jug back into position without placing the blades and base back in. Guess what I poured into it? Orange juice! I turned it on its side etc. straight away when I realised, but it was too late. I rang HO and they picked it up that day and it was returned the day before I went away. Great service and they gave me a new seal for my lid for free and a calendar.

I did something similar but with milk, about 2 months after I got my TM, it's still working 3 years later, I rang HO and they didn't seem to think it needed servicing. It rested on its back for 24 hrs.

Great news Katie that your TM is back. ;D

It's lovely to hear about good service.

Had some problems closing the lid and switching on... found that the ring inside the lid had perished in one small place... mended it with super glue very carefully and turned the ring around as its the same both sides.... seems OK now! The perished bit was kinking when I turned the lid so it would not turn on at all.
I have had my Thermomix around 5 years now and use it every day as a professional chef... Have had two blades 'strip' and replaced them but now have ordered a whole new bowl lid and blade etc. It's expensive bur I need it! Just wish I could get the blades repaired!!! at least I would have back up.

Katie, I have just read this thread. Good news about your TMX - it gives me faith that if mine has to go in for service it will be quck and efficient.
There is a Melbourne office in Glen Iris, which isn't too far from us, so I am a bit more comfortable with the thought of it being transported a relatively short distance as opposed to going over to Perth.

They sell extra blades in the store on the website. I'd get some just as a spare.
