Title: Hi, I am Amanda from Perth WA
Post by: AmandaPerth on February 10, 2014, 05:57:41 am
Hi, I've just found your forum while looking for thermomix recipes.

I've had my thermie for about 4 months and love it.  I am gluten free and thermie has helped me find a love for cooking again.

I was hoping someone may be able to advise if we can make superfine rice flour in our thermie instead of just regular rice flour.  Many GF recipes require superfine rice flour and its hard to locate and expensive to order online.

Thank you

Hi there, I am not GF, but I just grind rice down to make flour, I think we all do :)

Welcome to the forum Amanda. Like Hally I am not GF. I do know that I grind rice for 1 minute to make flour and it is still slightly gritty. Possibly another minute and it would be better. However I am sure that someone will be able to help you.
I am in Perth too, so a special welcome.

Welcome to the forum Amanda.Again I'm not GF but maybe if you use Tenina's principle to grinding icing sugar when grinding rice you might get a better result.

"Grind/cool/grind/cool. Do this 10 times so that it is not gritty. Apparently this is how commercial icing sugar is made."
I hope it works for you :)

Hi Amanda. Welcome to the forum. People here are so friendly and helpful. I'm another newbie and also gluten free, which was a huge selling feature for this machine. Rice flour, almond flour, that stuff is all so expensive. But not for us!
I'd also be interested in an answer to your rice flour question. From what I've seen it do to sugar, I can't imagine it would be a problem!

Hi Amanda,
I grind my own rice for breads and sometimes find it is not quite fine enough, so I know what you mean about grinding it to a fine powder.
I agree with the link that Judy provided.  Keep grinding on speed 9 in one minute intervals ensuring the bowl does not get too hot. However if it is just for me I'm not too fussy and one or two 60sec grinds usually does the trick
Many tmx owners do a similar process for making 10x icing sugar. Good luck!
