Another absolute winner
Mustard Lamb page 112
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/30/rupa2ena.jpg)
The lamb fillit was $55 a kilo so I had had the gal butcher cut the top side from leg and used it. About $11.
Cooked the leeks and mash in the Thermomix. I never peel my potatoes that I why they look a bit dark.
No celery hearts so used witloff
The sauce is so simple and delicious.
Will make this again.
Put the leeks in the thermoserver while cooking mash then put the lamb in the thermoserver while making the sauce.

Now that's just how I like my lamb cooked Gert, deliciously pink. It sounds like a nice recipe. I don't think I've even seen that book unless I borrowed Katie's and have forgotten about it!
How many recipes do you intend making from that book?
-
Looks lovely gett.. Havent got around to using his books yet.. Better get onto it :)
-
Gert, I have made a quite a few recipes from that book and everyone was a winner. That book is worth buying.
-
Got plans for another few Judy.
Gert
-
Gert thank you for trying these recipes.
I made the Caesar Salad one with a couple of variations for dinner last night. We loved it. So fresh and tasty.
I should have put it on a larger plate instead of piling it up. But it doesn't really matter.
-
Gert & Cookie - thanks very much for the reviews!! I've had the book for a little while now (hangs head in shame) but it found its way onto the shelf and there it stayed - putting it by the bed tonight to start a good read of it - and to mark those you've recommended!! :-* :-* :-*
-
I am not really a cookbook buyer, except for Tenina's but I felt I needed some inspiration as If I asked DH's what he wanted it would be sausages every bloody day. This happens when you have been married 48 years .
Also I am not one to follow recipes too closely but with Jaime's simple recipes there is really no choice as the ingredients are something you have In the pantry or fridge in any case. No wanker Delicious Mag stuff with asterisks.
The two that I have followed have lots of flavour and lend themselves to the Thermomix easily. Seems all recipes feed four easily and easy to up or down.
Gert
-
Great food Gert. I have made quite a lot from this book. Each time its been good
Nice salad cookie :)
-
Thanks for the great reviews Gert. I'm not much of a cookbook buyer but I might get this one.
$55 for lamb fillets - who pays that much? I complain when the are $25.
-
I keep my eyes open and occasionally get them on special for about $11 for two.

I'm loving this thread Gert, very inspiring :) hopefully I can add to it soon :)

Are you using the TMX for any parts of these recipes Gert. You're cooking up a storm up there lately.
-
Are you using the TMX for any parts of these recipes Gert. You're cooking up a storm up there lately.
Where I can judy. Of course I have lots of time so some of the short cuts aren't necessary but the recipes are so simple and so tasty with lots of simple sauces. I am quite in love with this book. Nothing complicated and no hard to find ingredients. Just needed some inspiration . Often pork can be quite dry but this pork was really moist and yummy
Gert
-
You have inspired me Gert to get this book out and start using it again.
-
Your pork looks better than Jamie's Gert.
-
I live Jaime - I want this book and his 30 min book. A lot of it is for the food processor so I imagine I'll use the tmx a lot with it.
-
He uses the food processor for slicing the vegetables thin so they cook quickly. That is fine if you really want to cook scalloped potatoes in 15 minutes but if you need not then a knife will do. But I have found the Thermomix is good for some things.
I am finding the salads a bit different with the vegetable side dishes inspiring to get me cooking something different I like instead of boring old DH's request of Sausages mash and peas :-\ :-\ :-\
Neither of us eat sweets so have not even looked at that section. Don't even know if it has puds actually.
Gert
-
You have inspired me Gert to get this book out and start using it again.
Me too! I find with new books I make a few things then get sidetracked with another new book and go from there. Jamie's meals are always tasty and never hard to make.
Loving your dishes Gert. :)
-
Gert loving that your cooking from this book & doing such a great job.
I have a free range chicken out, now to find a recipe in this book that uses a whole chicken :) it will obviously be cut up :)
-
Very inspiring, Gert :D
-
Hally you can always use the whole chicken using the same ingredients and method but cut up of course. You don't need to actually cook it in 15. I think I might make the ricotta fritters next or the chicken livers. Out to lunch today and DH's is going to Sydney for a couple of days so NO cooking. Yahoo!
There are no recipes I do not like in this book.
Gert
-
Gert, the ones I have cooked we have liked. Doing the blackened chicken with san fran quuinoa salad. Cp will have a variation.
I did find it quite exopensive cooking from the book from memory.
Have a nice lunch out :)
-
zebraa, I found this book to be a lot better than the 30 min book. I wonder what is everyone's opinion?
-
I'm with your DH Gert. I love bangers ( nice ones) and mash and peas.
-

not really impressed with it Kim I bought it decided it wasn't for me and have re gifted it for my mum I know she'll like it :D
-
Nice, Hally :)
-
Looks great Hally
-
Looks nice Hally, even up side down. :)
-
Kim, Jamie's latest book is not really one you can have a quick look through. It needs to be read like a novel, there are so many ideas in there for leftover roast meat as well as other recipes. All my recipe books and magazines have a list of recipes I would make and Saving with Jamie has 25 on it's list.
-
I looked at it but did not like the paper it was printed on.
Gert
-
Salad looked great & tasted great. Took me a bit longer than 15 mins as I was doing veg for cp too & I didnt flatten my chicken. Maybe 25 mins. Nice flesh flavours. I think this is his best book. I have saving with Jamie & have yet to make anything but will do.
-
I looked at it but did not like the paper it was printed on.

It seems to be the current trend Gert, can't say that I particularly like it either but what can we do about it :-))

I sliced the potatoes by hand then steamed them in the Varoma only took a few minutes to cook as I had the jug boiling before I added the potatoes.Cooked the onions on the stove and dumped both in the square dish to keep warm in the oven so I could use the frypan to cook the chicken and bacon while steaming the greens in the Varoma. This meals can easily be done in not more than 15 to 20 minutes. the chicken was moist and the potatoes tasty.
Very easy dish.
Gert
-
Go Gert, loving these meals you're cooking. I'd pop in for a meal if I lived closer.
-
And you would be very welcome. No cooking for the next two days as DH's is going to Sydney to a Didhedie Christmas lunch with old work mates. Thinking next one might be ricotta fritters on Sunday .
Gert
-
Another great dish Gert, I nearly did that one but opted for the salad. :)
-
I'm loving this. Gert and Hally thanks for the helpful tips on what to make from this book.
-
That looks fantastic Gert, I think you've sold me on the book.
-
I am not a cookbook person really but sometimes you just need a new book to get you going again. These are great family mix and match meals easily adapted to the Thermomix and simple. I think his best cookbook ever not that I own any others.
Gert
-
Thanks suzanne and judy..
I always have a quick look through books when i buy jd and if there are at least two recipes i like then i buy it.. Nothing popped out but I love the concept of less waste..a few chefs in france were big on using all parts of ingredients.. Came up with sone very creative meals...
-
Gert, I love love love how you are testing and reviewing the recipes in this book. The picture comparison is just brilliant, and makes it seem achievable by home cooks :)
-
Ricotta fritters page 232.
Without a doubt this is the easiest meal I ever made while nursing a hangover from the Red Hatters Christmas party. Well I only had a glass or two there but when I got home it was soooooo hot I had to leap into the pool sans hat and have another glass or three.
Having promised to make the Ricotta Fritters I had no choice and I want to tell you gentle readers even I could make them in 15 minutes or less.
I followed the recipe exactly. Except........
I must have used the last lemon yesterday in a wee sundowner so substituted half a preserved lemon diced up. Half in the fritter mixture and the rest in the sauce. I added 2 Birdseye chilli. Seeds and all. The recipe called for 400 gms of ricotta but the container had 500. I had a hunk of Parmesan about 80 gms so why bother with 40. Then a good 2 tablespoons of flour.
I substituted Coles, Arribiata sauce for passata .
I felt the mandolin was beyond me for slicing the salad bits so just did a garden salad. I will make this salad though.
Into the Thermomix went the Parmesan and ricotta stuff. Then dollops into the frypan. Made about 18 fritters. Took those out and opened the jar of Arriabata sauce. Into the jar I added a dollop of umami, lemon bits, anchovies ,garlic and chilli. Tossed the contents into the pan and added a wee bit of the mushroom water. Used Sicilian green olives and black as well. Heated it through and there you have it.
These fritters lend themselves to breakfast lunch and dinner, can be frozen. Be good as belinis. Could be used with most any sauce such as curry. For a man dish you could add some chorizo but my DH requested this and loved it as is so a good vegetarian meal.

Looks good Gert and exactly like Jamie's photo ;) Your reviews of the book are wonderful ;D
-
You are having so much fun there Gert and DH is obviously enjoying the spoils that come his way. Don't be surprised if he gives you some cookbooks for Christmas, he won't want all these new recipes to stop ;D
-
Well done Gert. Yours looks just like Jamie's. Looking forward to what's next.
-
Gert I am really impressed with the way you manage to stick to the recipe. Thanks for another recipe recommendation.
-
I have this book and am loving your reviews Gert ;D
-
Gert you should be getting royalties from Jamie Oliver ........ you're making me want to buy the book with all your lovely pictures. I like the look of the salads ........ good for Qld weather.
-
Another winner, Gert :)
I've browsed the book whilst food shopping. So so tempted because of Gert!
-
Looks great again Gert. Definitely doing something out of this book in the coming week. ;D
-
Thank you girls. All credit to Jaime though who has made it so easy with just a few normal ingredients and recipes that are pretty forgiving and lend themselves to a bit of adjustment with no bother. And there is no hurry really. Just knowing you can actually put food on the table in such a short time with little prep means no rushing around. The things I have cooked so far are things the whole family would eat.
Before I went to bed last night I tossed some onions, apples and blood oranges in the slow cooker. Then put a lovely duck on top, tossed in a few aromatics and drizzled some honey on top. The smell is enticing. I am going to cool that quacker, strip it, strain the juices then cool that to take the fat off. Later I Am thinking a risotto, or just with pasta but if I get energetic I may make ravioli or who knows. The idea was to cook the duck with no effort . I bought 2 for $22 recently and the other is for the BBQ.
If I ask DH's what he would like do do with the duck he will say curry so that too is a possibility.
Gert
-
Sounds delicious Gert, I bet it will taste nice whichever way you choose to eat it. :D

Just watching tonight's Jamie.

Cookie, I can't find catch up episodes using my ipad :(

I watched it last night for the first time and really want the book now. Will have to get to the shops this week.

Jaime's Chicken Livers with Welsh Rarebit
Really interesting and different. DH loved it . I used homemade lemon and orange marmalade and my own yogurt. I had to run up to Dan Murphy's as. I discovered not so dear DH had drunk the last of the Marsala. And I added a bit of Tenina's umami paste. This is the sort of meal it is good for.

I don't mind chicken livers Gert but have only ever had them in days gone by when we used to get the giblets with a chicken and I used to put them in my chicken soup.
-
Not something I would make or eat, but I'm loving how well you are going cooking from this book Gert. Your meals are looking the same if not better than Jamies
-
Thanks wonder. The recipe did not appeal to me at all but I thought I would give it a go and it was, agai.n, full of interesting flavours and took only a few minutes to cook. The thing about these meals is there is absolutely no stress to get off your bum while drinking a glass of while watching the news and reading a book becUse you know you can put a meal on the table in a few minutes.
You would not have known these were chicken livers if I had not told you. Nothing like liver at all. I don't know what the Welsh Rarebit had to do with it but it was good for mopping up the yummy sauce. The salad had a nice tang and balanced the meal perfectly.
Might make Chorizo Carbonara tomorrow as I have a new expensive chorizo Pamplona to o try.
Gert
-
Thanks Gert for another recipe suggestion. I can't abide liver of any nature so I won't be making this one. :'( :'(
-
I adore Jamie's 15 and 30 Minute Meals. Except the 15 minute ones seem to take me at least half an hour and the 30 minute ones around and hour and a half!
All delicious flavours and, as Gert says, things you usually have in your fridge or pantry.
-
Thanks Gert for another recipe suggestion. I can't abide liver of any nature so I won't be making this one. :'( :'(
Ii guess you would not like the offer I had yesterday then Cookie. The owner of a brand new food shop in Cairns told me he had just taken delivery of 440 gms of foie gras and did I want some. He has 4 packets of 110 gms at $40 each. I was soooooooo tempted but the thought of driving I to the city put me off. Too many crazy people out there. It was bad enough negotiating the highway up to Dan Murphy's to get the damn Marsala for DH's lunch.
Gert
-
Gert, I read you post to my DD and she couldn't stop laughing and has now decided that's the book she will cook from when she is on cooking duty over the holidays purely froma time perspective and knowing she won't get in trouble when I get home from work and dinners not started - my trip home is 15 mins away and I always text to say I'm on my way!
-
Your DD's will love it. Good book for learner cooks as he tells you what to do first to get the timing right. For experienced I cooks I would say read it through first as the text can distracting and you might put the salad ingredients in the pot instead.
Gert
-
Gretchen, thank you so much for the inspiration to use this book! I got a copy several months ago, and have never made anything from it. Thanks to your posts, this book is now getting some serious use :-*
-
That is great Karen. Stand by for the chorizo carbonara maybe Sunday. Had to postpone that as I have some smoked eel I want to cook today with pasta.

True, can't stand pâté either! Unless it is salmon or similar. I once prepared all the chicken livers etc and made some. I still couldn't eat it. You may have my share Gert.

I will ask her what fish. She is very impressed and said it was fantastic.
Update on the fish. It was saddleback snapper. Stayed firm. Dd said the meal took less then 15 minutes to cook but it too her forever to deseed the pomegranate as she watched a You tube VDO that said to soak it. Didn't work. I pointed her to the You Tube VDO about whacking it for next time. Also said the flavours were perfect and her DH wants her to make it for a dinner party.

Courton it was really good. Make a good after Christmas dish using leftover ham. The yogurt made it a very light meal unlike cream which you would usually use in carbonara. I had a small portion. DH ate most of all that with enough left for his breakfast on toast. I would make it again as it really took only minutes to make once the pasta is cooked.
Gert
-
Love seeing your meals Gert. You are certainly getting your money's worth from this book. :)
-
I want this book ;D
I was watching a Jamie Christmas show the other night (probably an old one as his daughter was only a baby) but he doesn't appear to have put out a Christmas recipe book. I loved his Turkey Wellington recipe and have managed to find that on the net but I'd love a Chrissy book of his. Does anyone know if he has one?
-
I haven't seen a Jamie Christmas Book Judy.I heard him on the radio on Friday evening talking about preparing for Christmas lunch. He was very funny and made me laugh. He did briefly say he will be on TV again in the New Year but didn't say what he would be doing.
-
Gert that looks great, DD asked if we could have it for dinner tomorrow - hopefully she will be cooking!

Gert that looks great. I think I want this book now too.
